Bought lab, we talked about it before. I told her I would get her a big diamond and top of the line in clarity / quality, setting she wanted etc....if she really cared about it being natural with the same stats I would do it but we would have to push back getting a house for a year (I knew what she would say). She didn't flinch, loves the lab diamond and saved me a fuck ton of money. Bigger than both of her sisters which helps lol
Perfectly fine. Got a great cut, incredible clarity, nice big stone, and no one is the wiser. She has been stopped in public several times by people telling her how gorgeous her ring is. Tldr; no fucks given.
I’m glad it worked out for y’all. I got engaged in 2007, and my wife would have been pretty upset with a lab-grown diamond.
But it's not because your wife wanted more kids to die for her jewelry. It's a societal pressure that's dissipating as it becomes more common If anyone made a comment about a lab-grown diamond being "less-than" to her she or I would call them a moron to their face
Seems to be more “normal” now isn’t it? I don’t think I’d even heard of one until some guy I work with talked about looking at one 3-4 years ago. Probably depends on the situation too, some people probably look at it like “that money could be used elsewhere”. Plus the ethical side of it.
I think people assume that it's not going to be a "real" diamond or it's going to be lesser. Almost like people think lab grown = cubic zirconia. It's a real diamond that is 99.9% indistinguishable from a natural diamond
My diamond buyer has started buying labs as they are becoming more prevalent and is trying to build a secondary market for them. only way you can tell the difference between the 2 is a specific diamond tester
whatever the cost of the setting is. Moissanite is worthless on the secondary market. We have one in our case that retailed for 1500 for 500
different thing lab diamonds are literal diamonds. they just do the centurys-long process in days in a lab
That’s what I thought but hadn’t seen the Moissanite stuff until this thread. The clock is ticking for me, so probably should start figuring all this stuff out lol
moissanite is very inexpensive but you can tell it's different lab diamond looks identical to natural diamond. the only people who will know the difference are ones with magnifying glasses or people you tell imo there's no reason to buy a natural diamond. It's cheaper for your girlfriend to buy less materialistic friends than it is to buy a natural diamond. If you have an heirloom natural diamond, that's obviously different
Yeah, I’ve only looked casually but only saw the two actual Diamond options. So wasn’t sure what Moissanite even was. From conversations we’ve had she doesn’t seem to care about it being natural vs lab, as long as it’s the style/look she wants obviously. I also assume that’s one of those things that girls don’t mention when showing off a ring, but what do I know lol
Depends on the friend group for sure but I know plenty of cattiness about rings Definitely do what's best for you and her but I literally can't comprehend people who want natural diamonds. More expensive, worse quality, and giant ethical concerns all to try and impress awful people who have been brainwashed by marketing campaigns
Saw an article about gen Z is refusing natural diamonds over ethics and price. Lab grown will be dominant in the market soon.
Curious what our boys who aren't rubes who spent money on extracted diamonds did with they money they saved
100%. They are the most empathetic and best savers/least spenders yet. They are buying real diamonds the least out of all previous generations, and by a wide margin. The kids are alright.
I got my engagement ring through the Rivals guy a few years ago (Lake). He’s a good guy, can’t beat his prices on non-lab grown stuff tbh. My wife has decided she likes “designer jewelry” that gets off on doing fucking padlocks and hearts with hardly any diamonds or anything to make it actually worth anything. Marla Aaron in case anybody else wants to be completely fucked like me
What the fuck does one even do with this https://marlaaaron.com/products/chubby-babylock?variant=593863245849
You use the expensive chubby babylock to connect the other even more expensive components to the expensive chain. But s’cute so s’okay.
Same here. Wish I would have known about these lab grown fellas when I was buying. I think I could have sold her on that
Not sure where else to ask this but is there a rule of thumb for pricing on a lab Diamond? I went to a place over the weekend and the price was a lot lower than expected but I don’t have all the details yet aside from the size, going back tonight to get that information now that they have it in person.
The one I looked at last weekend was just over 2 carats for the main diamond. Really I was just trying to get a read on the price plus how the size looked on the setting, etc.
Make sure whoever you're buying it for is 100% ok with Lab Grown. Cause if they find out its lab when they think its natural. your ass is grass Also outside of a jewelry store Labs have almost zero resale value atm but they are taking up a larger share of the market retail wise so it could improve but probably not by much
It was a year ago, but we looked at natural Canadian Diamonds at our price point (Wife is Canadian), and then did a side by side with the lab grown one. In short, you're not very wise if you go natural but care about size/quality. Just dont tell anyone it's a lab grown one if you or fiance care about that for some reason. The one I got would have cost roughly at least 60% more if it was sourced from Africa and 80% more if sourced from Canada if close to same size/quality.
