it has nothing to do with college? This program is for kids in Maine that do not have access to public education because Maine is remote. So where there is no public school in place, the families can choose any other public school or private school and receive tuition assistance, as long as it wasn’t religious.

I don’t think we should be funding private schools period and states should be required to provide public schooling for every child. And they can be made to accommodate distance learning for the few kids that are truly an unreasonable distance from everyone else.

And yes that means the state should be providing broadband to those houses as well. Fuck public money going to any private school - religious or otherwise.

I haven't read the nuance of the ruling, but you have special needs students that sometimes can only go to certain private specialty schools. Typically the public does fund that in many cases. I had a brother who was special needs and I know the State paid for some of his schooling. I certainly hope it is not an all or nothing situation where if special needs students get funding than everyone does.

The only reason why your brother needed a private school was because the state chose, for financial reasons, to outsource its responsibility to educate him.

Correct, but in fairness he had brain damage from birth and operated at a 1st grade level even as an adult, so it made sense for them to outsource that.

This was much broader, didn't apply to everyone in the state (I'm not intimately familiar with the case, but I think only to students who lived in areas without a nearby public high school), but the Court just said if you're going to give tuition assistance to students attending private schools, you can't say it doesn't apply to religious private schools.

I don't think that ruling would have much, if any, impact on what you said.

Yes, again I don't know the nuance. My hope is that it is not a give help to ANY student for ANY situation and then ALL students have the right to be funded.

The destruction of public education has been the goal for a long time. Betsy Devos was loud and clear about her dislike for public education, while others have been more subtle. It's too hard for people to profit off of education currently. Pumping public money into private and charter schools is the way around that. Increasing segregation will just be a happy byproduct

See the court added an extra decision day for Friday this week.

Gonna be a mess of massive protests, and pro life groups backed by “patriots” with guns counter protesting. This sucks.

So in the US political donations constitutes free speech, but choosing to withhold your money from organizations whose policies you oppose is not free speech?

6-3 decision expanding 2A to allow for concealed carry in all states, and limiting the state’s ability to require a license to do so.

Fuck. This country is going down the tubes.

It's fucking astounding how the gun nut niche has such oversized power to get what it wants. I wonder what percentage of this country actually wants people at the mall or the grocery store or a bar to have a gun on them. 10%?

I'm a gun owner. Second amendment should be repealed. I would still support ability of people to own guns, but if this stupid amendment means you can't have restrictions on that, it needs to go.

I think a state should require you to have a license then make you carry insurance. Lets see how the insurance companies deal with the shit. Play the corporate shill game that the repubs want.

True. But licensing that creates an added burden to the gun owner is out. So, state licensing schemes will effectively become rubber stamps from what little I’ve read so far

Need states to call out these insane ideologues for what they are and announce that they will ignore their opinions and continue to enforce the laws necessary to protect their citizens. The Supreme Court needs to be destroyed. Blue states can seize this moment to do it.

For Massachusetts, this holding wipes out our suitable person standard. Previously, if an individual had restraining orders issued against them, misdemeanor domestic violence convictions or a history of alcohol or drug abuse, they could be denied a license to carry a firearm. Those guidelines can no longer be enforced with this holding.
