As much as Dele gets slagged off for being out of form, he has done miles more than Gio since Gio has been here. Gio had a good stretch prior to the corona break, but he still doesn't do enough for me.
What exactly has Dele done in the past year? He had a decent stretch last season after Mou came on, but he’s been incredibly far removed from his best for quite a while now.
I am not arguing Dele old against Dele new. I am arguing what has Lo Celso done? 2019-20 Dele 25 matches 8 goals 4 assists 2019-20 Lo Celso 28 matches 0 goals 2 assists
He’s at least been available, which is something Dele’s struggled with recently. He’s also our only central midfielder capable of progressing the ball up the pitch. The attacking numbers certainly haven’t been there compared to what he did at Betis, but he’s being asked to do something completely different here as an 8. Dele is 24 and still no one knows what his position is or how to fit him into the team outside of a second striker role. It’s frustrating.
I am just saying Lo Celso needs to do a lot more. I feel like he has been given a lot of slack. I was using Dele just as a comparison. If Lo Celso had Dele's stats we would be showering him with praise.
Last season’s Tanguy doesn’t do give and go’s like that. Hope that stamina and work ethic can show up.
I think he’s been hampered by us being totally toothless in the midfield. Hard to shine when you’re playing with the likes of Sissoko and Winks on a weekly basis. Unfortunately PEH hasn’t been reassuring there yet, either (yes I know it’s only been 2 weeks).
