What are yall thinking in terms of draft. If we stay at 15, I hope a 2 or 3 falls to us. Point of attack defense was our biggest achilles last year. What is insane is we were dead last in the league in 3 point attempts (thanks nate). Dead lastt in 3 point attempts and ranked low in shots at the rim despite having 2 lob threats and maybe the 2nd best passer in the nba. If our cheap owner doesn't screw us over next week we will improve just be having better coaches working with our guys everyday. I like Bilal Couilbaly but he has blown up in the last 3 weeks. Jalen Hood-Schifanno, Taylor Hendricks, Grady Dick (won't help defense but putting shooting around Trae is a cheat code), Cason Wallace Brice Sensabaugh and Jordan Hawkins as bench scorers. Put them on the floor with AJ and Bogi and we would be flammable on offense with our bench unit. If we trade Collins I'd like to see us get Jarace Walker. I could see us trading Capela for 20 straight up because Ressler is cheap AF, if that happens you are going to see Lively on our roster which will be laughable.
Looks like Lively and Bilal have moved out of our range but there are still plenty of talented players that will be available at 15 and hopefully contribute in the rotation by 24/25: 1. Cason Wallace 2. Keyonte George 3. Jalen Hood-Schifino 4. Kobe Bufkin All combo guards that can defend and develop into an adequate shooter as well as have some creation ability. None of them really stand out to me among one another. 5. Gradey Dick - Huerter replacement. 6. Leonard Miller - combo forward with Jalen Johnson like skill set. 7. Dariq Whitehead - here is your Duke faller Depends on how the medical reports are. I would say it’s one of these 7 guys unless Lively or Bilal fall. Lively would be a great replacement if Clint is traded. He could get 5-10 minutes behind OO/JC at center and be ready to be the main back-up in 24/25. Out of those 7 above, I would roll the dice with Leonard Miller.
If we just stay at 15, Sanjuro post is spot on I just think we are going to lose 1 of Collins / Capella and possible 1 of Hunter and Bogie
I think it will be Clint only in the offseason unless it’s a consolidation trade for a bigger name. Likely need to get JC’s numbers back up to trade him either before the deadline or 24 offseason. Moving Clint is the quickest way for Collins to get back to 18/8 numbers and interest from around the League. 24 offseason is going to be tough to stay under the second apron no matter what.
wonder if we do a Hunter trade to Pacers for Jarace Walker then ship Capela to Dallas think we were targeting him and Wallace
everything here is something this team needed. Cason or Whitmore were my picks but this is a good pick
After carefully watching this video and no others I’ve decided Kobe will be Rookie of the year, And possibly the best player named Kobe in the history of basketball respect my decision no interviews
What kind of deal would we be talking about for Hunter? Am I dumb to think Bojan for Hunter could make some sense for both sides? Who would need more there? This is what Jake Fisher (who doesn't seem like he knows as much as he pretends) this morning...
Adding lots of shooting. Kyle Korver is clearly in the building. Also, maybe find ways to give Trae spacing with a roll man is smart. FU Nate
My thought is Detroit and Hunter would have been used for one of your centers if they could find a home for Capela
I feel like we are gonna get pennies on the dollar for whoever we trade out of Capela, Hunter, or Collins because teams know we can’t continue having 3 guys standing around on offense that do nothing without having the ball. Plus we need to consolidate our roster big time.
Makes sense. I'd trade Wiseman or Bagley for him and would guess the Pistons would, too. Bagley's at best a nothing asset and probably a negative one around the league. No clue what Wiseman's value is. I'd trade Stewart, too, although it sounds like the Pistons are being dumb about him. I don't know what to make of Hunter, but I'd rather try him on that contract than give a bigger one to any of these FAs.
Hunter is a SF that can’t grab a rebound and his defense isn’t close to what it was hyped to be. He’s decent but man he has underwhelmed.
We will know in the next 2 weeks for sure. When the draft got to the 20s, I thought you’d see Capela or Collins get dumped in a move that dumped salary. It’s also encouraging we didn’t lose a starter to take on the last year of Bertans deal. we also took 2 legit prospects in the second round instead of selling picks which felt good. They will play in college park but they have discernible skills im of the opinion most National nba guys have dick all for sources in Atlanta and parrot what their buddies in other clubs tell them. I think Quinn will get a lot out of this current roster. Of course watch this blow up in my face when we trade Clint and Dejountae to Brooklyn for Patty Mills expiring and a 2029 Phoenix pick lol
sucks we couldnt put him in a deal that achieves said 'roster building' but basically all we could make happen
Jazz got a good player for free. Annoying but happy for JC. This is 100% the consequence of the owner stepping on the scales multiple times. Speeding up the rebuild meant acquiring players the nuked JC’s value as a basketball player. He’s going to do great next to lauri. -Tyler Jones
end of day he just played his way into too big a contract and we probably shouldve let him walk or signed/traded him way back when. But they were probably worried about the optics of that. my only complaint is not getting value in return for him at any point when we could have. I love JC as a Wake guy. But he is a playoffs-limited rotation piece. A bit underzied 4 that is still trying to improve his 3pt shot.
GM on local radio saying he absolutely doesn’t have a mandate to get out of the tax and next day you dump a starter for a 376 year old player and a 2. fuck off and die Tony
I mean I don’t think the 2 things correlate and I’m the #1 Tony hater. John had no value since we spent 4 years of having him in trade talks. Plus our bloated roster also meant zero leverage. At least Gay is cheap and opens up playing time for younger guys like OO and Jalen.
agree with that, him and Clint were never a fit. I was hoping Clint would be moved and JC would have more room to operate but that’s just not the case So Saddiq starts at the 4 now?
Collins should have been traded before 2019. It was inevitable, they just waited until the stock has plummeted
They could have packaged him with 2-3 1sts that they used on Hunter and the rest, and got significantly more, but that was when they insisted Collins was a star player
Threw up a little bit when I saw the trade returns, but it's the natural end result of all the mismanagement of the past few years so I guess I expected something like this
This puts us between $5 and $9M under the tax and able to use the full MLE. Also a $19M (edit:$25M due to previous exception) trade exception that could be used to say deal Murray straight up for Siakam. That would be cap neutral for 24/25 and beyond since both would likely get nearly the same salary but allow Toronto to sign both VanVleet and Poetl. What to do with all my Collins jerseys now?
There are a couple of benefits of not going into the tax. One is that you don’t have to pay extra for every $$ over the tax line and get to collect a portion of the luxury taxes paid by every team over it. The second is that you don’t start your luxury tax clock which compounds the tax rate with more seasons over the line in the future. Once a team hits the 2nd apron over the tax line (which was just put into the new CBA) they have the penalties above as well as new ones that restrict trading, FA signings, buy-outs, and penalize draft picks (move first rounders to the end of the first). It’s impossible to know what he is saving this season without knowing where other teams but it would at least be in the $35M range on Collins contract.
