When I hear Samson’s voice I can’t help but imagine bradley Whitford. Especially the billy Madison Bradley whitford
I also find him entertaining. I really don’t care if he’s an asshole. He has entertaining and gives a perspective on sports that we rarely get
I guess I am learning what Podcast distribution means but what did they even buy with that $50M? DraftKings will be licensing the podcast to many different distributors on a nonexclusive basis, which was also a selling point for Mr. Le Batard, who wants the podcast to be heard by as many fans as possible, one of the people said
basically, they bought the backend from lebatard. Lebatard and Co gets 50 million to make the show, and Draft Kings gets to sell the advertising/syndication rights. It's a dream set up for the show as they get to go back to just worrying about doing the show and Draft Kings will do the rest. It's essentially the same setup they had at ESPN.
Nevermind I just misread the quote. I missed the word "to" as far as DK is now the one selling the property. I took it as they were licensing the podcast to their platforms but it wasn't exclusive. Just totally misread the sentence.
That things will go back to how they were at ESPN but this time with more freedom to do whatever the hell they want
Bet Stugotz will still try to broker a side deal somewhere now that he doesn't have to be the show salesman anymore
ESPN really BF’ed their hand with Dan and I’m here for it. Couldn’t be happier for the guys. 50 million is generational wealth, even if it’s getting divided up. They really need to give Princess Claire her segment back now that Roy is rich. And also bring Roy’s Top Ten lists back.
dan already has generational wealth. i would be stunned if he's not giving the people who have worked for him for a long time a ton of $ from that deal.
A big part of what Dan wanted was for everyone on the show to get a cut rather then be salaried employees. He hated that ESPN didn’t want to pay the shipping container like on air talent. I doubt any of the shipping container have more than a few points, but even at 1.5% each, they just got paid.
They’re all bit characters, but the show isn’t what it is without them. I wouldn’t be surprised if he got money for Allyson and New Money Charlie for playing roles in their success. That’s the kind of guy Dan is and part of what makes him so great.
Oh absolutely. They are bit players, but because of their titles, they were being paid like people working entry level jobs and not getting raises. other than mike who had the executive producer title and was the main link to ESPN, everyone else was living paycheck to paycheck and then being supplemented by Dan
One of the funniest things I’ve ever heard is when he called that Chicago station as Mark Hackman and spoke in ultra gringo, over annunciated Spanglish.
Nothing on Hoch in general but this show doesn't get to where it is with him in that chair instead of Mike.
Oh for sure. Mike has been amazing. Just saying that hoch had a good run and it would be nice to have some of his bits still around and to have a presence on the show. Instead it seems like they simply don’t like each other anymore.
I don't know the insider on this but they do bring him up and talk about how good his Hackman stuff was every now and then. There just honestly isn't a whole lot of reason to talk about him or bring him on. I do miss the Zaslow local hour crossovers but that was better back when Joy was still there.
Nobody has ever really commented on it. The only mention of the feud was in a cameo where Hoch talked about how Dan was a groomsman at his wedding and 10 years later, Hoch wasn't even invited to Dan's wedding.
well if we just want to speculate...Hoch wasn't loyal and took an opportunity to basically be a competitor. So if Dan's #1 thing is loyalty then that would make sense that he would be really hurt by that. I don't see him holding a long term grudge though as much as he likely just became indifferent towards him.
I would speculate that is the cause of the divide. Still to go from groomsman to not even sending a pity invite to a wedding is quite the split.
Tomorrow’s local hour should be interesting given that Mike Ryan and Roy were at the Panthers game tonight. Even with that result I hope that series goes 7 games.
They played the final two games of the regular season against one another and were already guaranteed to be the 2/3 matchup in their division. Home ice went to the panthers with the two victories so they were a preview of what many hockey fans hoped was a great playoff series. I’m technically a neutral fan but I’d be lying if I didn’t say I had a slight rooting interest in the Panthers since I listen to the show. BTW - love the Mike Gordon avatar
They have played it a dozen+ times already. There's a clip floating around of Daryl Morey hearing it for the first time and loving it.
I'm hoping all of the shipping container gets back in studio soon and they go back to just having 1 guest host occasionally like they did with Mina/Pablo/Dominique before.
