Ran my first ever half today. Always been a fairly active runner but usually only 5 miles at a time. Never ran in a race seriously before. Only got up to 7 miles prior to this due to work/life/kids. Ended up running 1:46. Super happy with the result and already feel addicted to races. Going to actually train and see what I can do in the spring in another half or a full if I can manage it
Any of you guys have marathon training plans that you love? I am enrolled in NYC this fall and planning to start ramping up soon. I currently do 70-80 miles per month at 8-9 minute pace. Goal for marathon is around 3:30-3:45.
Yeah for sure. Most of the training plans I’ve seen are 16 weeks and 16 weeks prior to NYC is 7/14. I plan to do one of these plans that builds up to something like: M: 6 T: rest W: 8 Th: 6 F: rest / strength S: 20 S: rest
Excited to run my first Ragnar race today in beautiful Snowmass CO. Not the best night sleep (upper 40s in a tent) but have a really good group of friends and going to have a lot of fun.
Hope to run LA in 2025 so I am starting my “pre training” before I start real training. Went on a short run yesterday the first one in a while. I realized again indoor Peloton and strength training don’t truly translate to running outdoors. Tweeked my calf a little. It did remind of how much I miss and love running.
Long training run in 95% humidity at 5am this morning. What was I thinking signing up for my first full marathon on Sept. 7th?
big fan of Sifan Hassan. Yeah I root for the Americans to beat her but damn I love her style of hanging towards the back then crushing it. Love it. Great Olympics Chebet from Kenya just awesome though couldn’t be beat
When you round the corner on an unfamiliar route and you discover an Inception-esque wall of pavement rising interminably above you, but it’s the only sensible way home.
Finally started pushing myself again with running, ran 8 miles at about a 8:45 pace. Gonna try to prep for my first half marathon
What shoes are we liking these days? I got a pair of Pegasus at 420 miles and a pair of Infinity Runs at over 200 so should be in the market for a pair here soon.
Current rotation is two pairs of Asics Novablast 4s and two pairs of Nimbus 26s. About to pick up a pair of Saucony Triumph 22s.
Thanks to this thread, I actually started keeping track of my monthly/yearly miles a couple years ago. Sept 1-Aug 31. 1190 miles this past 12 months, first full marathon next Saturday. And it's starting to cool off a bit which is great. Keep at it, gents...
I've had a heel issue the last two weeks or so. Pain on the bottom of my heel when I walk on a bare floor. Been wearing flip flops around the house. Don't notice it anymore unless barefoot. Got a new pair of running shoes, novablast 4, itching to go on a run. Am signed up for a half in October need to start getting miles in
Hayden Hawks just won the CCC 100k. Friggin amazing, check the Strava. https://www.strava.com/activities/12286172209 10min pace for 62 miles and 18k+ elevation lol
Opinions on running watches? Apple Watch vs Garmin and are the extra features in the pricier garmin models worth it? Planning to get back into half marathon training ~ 5x/wk.
I use my Vivoactive 4 almost every day to run. Has my Spotify, tracks distance pace heartrate and elapsed time on one screen. I don't do Strava or anuthing, so can't speak to that. Happy with it so far, had it about a year.
I've never used an Apple Watch so I can't comment on that comparison Used a Garmin Forerunner 235 from 2017-2023, and it still works. But now I'm using a Garmin Fenix 5S Plus, picked up a used one for the Garmin Coach capability, though I haven't used that much yet.
I’ve got to get back to it. We did a full in November and a half in late April, and I really have run much since. I’m in France for a couple of more weeks and when I get back, I’ve gotta get back on my bullshit. Just so fucking hot/humid in Tennessee.
I've dropped about 12-15 pounds the past few months, now what felt like my 10 minute mile pace is closer to 9. Really liking the Asics novablast shoes, big difference compared to the brooks adrenaline i previously run in. 6 weeks till my second half marathon.
Thank you! Very flat crushed gravel rail trail, with a couple wooden bridges and road crossings. The 26.2 was the short run today, they run 50k, 50 mile, and 100 mile concurrently. Out and back course. Edit- 50 mile, 100k, 100 mile.
10 miles this morning, felt great. Running my second half marathon in a couple weeks, feel much more in shape and ready for this one
Down to picking up the Bondi 8 or Nimbus 26 for daily walking. Big fan of my speed goats. Haven’t had anything asics in 15+ years. Anyone have some significant miles on either that can offer feedback? For reference I’m hovering at about 300lb, so my main concern is how the foams stand up to punishment over the course of a day and long term.
Pretty happy with my Garmin so far. Only gripe is the elevation tracking leaves something to be desired. Essentially all of my runs are loops and there's consistently a discrepancy of about 5-10% between elevation gain and loss.
Welp 2nd half marathon in the books, pretty proud of myself. Had a few goals: PR, no stopping, sub 2:15. Finished in 2:09, felt great, last quarter mile I hit like a 6:00 pace. Smashed my previous time from last year. Could have kept running. Honey stinger gels the real MVP.
Congrats! And I agree on the Honey Stingers. Plain for me, no flavors. Their waffles are pretty good too, but I need a drink with them.
Hit 21 mile training run this morning in advance of a marathon in November, 3:30. A 4 hour marathon was a starting goal and didn’t seem likely, but am hoping some adrenaline kicks in on race day
First full this Saturday. Taper was needed. Definitely felt it and picked up some overuse injuries when maxing out at 21. Pace has been coming down really well throughout training. Finished my 21 miler at 7:40/mile, fastest I’ve ever run for sure. Hoping that carries over to race day. Been loving the training so far. Planning another full in May and will see how close to the 3 hr mark I can get
3:09:03 yesterday in my 6th full, bigger improvement from last year to this year (4:38) than from 2 years ago to last year (3:47).
No, I improved by 4 minutes, 38 seconds from last year to this year, and 3 minutes, 47 seconds from 2 years ago to last year.
Finally happened. Got “hit” by a car this morning on my run. I was running straight and had the right-away and crossed the street at a red light. She was turning right and barely slowed to turn. She wasn’t paying attention and turned into me. I caught it at the last minute and slowed up before she ran completely over me. I just ran half speed into her driver’s side.
Been dealing with knee cartilage inflammation for like 5 weeks and haven’t been able to run. Its almost back to 100% but I’m being cautious since I don’t want lingering issues so annoying
First full in the books. 3:27. Slowed down significantly the last 5 miles but overall very happy with the result. Already signed up for another in May. Will shoot for around 315 weirdly my Strava was completely fucked up on distance and had me actually running 27.2 miles. Anybody else had problems with this?
Great time, well done. Yea, seems to happen on every marathon. I think it’s a combination of not taking the most efficient route along the course (wasting a few steps here and there adds up over the total distance) and all those trackers not being perfectly accurate/calibrated.
