Gonna go grab some new ones. Typically have tried On products, cloudswift for example. Was considering trying HOKA this time around. Any suggestions for 10k-Half range?
I splurged for the custom fitting once at Fleet Feet and have ran on Brooks Glycerins since. I have saved money ordering those online afterwards. It's worth it to get it fit once in the store.
Altra Rivera II zero drop here. Discontinued but still available at half the price of the first pair I bought. I go back and forth between stocking up on 4-5 pair, or switching shoes when this (new) pair is toast.
If your shoes are in good shape I don't see the benefit. I pretty much always run in 1 pair till they are done and then replace. I know a few people that train in shoes with a lot of padding and then run races in lighter shoes for the extra endurance.
Whichever one of you is the guy from Omaha in the Strava TMB group, you’re a machine. I respect your consistency.
Thanks to this thread, I started tracking my running totals over time. Never crossed my mind prior, I just went out and ran. Today ends one year of tracking, total of 1282.1 miles since last Sept. 1st. Two half marathons and a few 5k's in there. I'm going to continue keeping track for the heck of it, and am looking at a 50k in April next year if all goes well. Keep running, TMB.
I miss running, haven't been on a run since baby was born about 10 weeks ago. Only time I can conceivably run without giving up sleep is like 5am, but that's when I'm on watch before I head to work. I feel guilty about going after work as I want to get home and help the wife and see the baby. Maybe a treadmill in the garage is my best choice for now?
25:25 5K this morning. New PR. 3rd in age group. Feeling pretty great. Only 3 left in my 30s. Interested to see what the 40s bracket brings.
I just turned 40 and the last 5K I ran, and it had double the amount of people as the 30 year old mens age group.
I feel like the 40-44 age group might be the most popular. Maybe not for 5k, but for half marathon and marathon.
Had a 10 miler this morning for the Twin Cities marathon festivities and got an email 15 minutes ago saying they’re cancelling everything today due to heat. SWEET. Been trail running exclusively to train so might shift to a different 10 mile trail race next weekend to get my fix but this sucks. High of 90, in October, in Minnesota.
Knocked 10 out anyway. Tons of people out here running, almost felt official (not the official route tho).
Been off my feet as much as possible the past three weeks after experiencing pain in my left achilles after a trail run on September 10. Shit scared me so bad but seems it's finally going away. Sometimes I forget rest is important. Really need to improve my sleep habits
This morning I had a good run as part of my taper; 12 miles averaging around 7:25, a little slower than my goal pace for my marathon in two weeks. Kind of takes the sting out of the cutoff for Boston; if it's already 5:29 now (that is, if your qualifying time was theoretically 3:10, you would have needed 3:04:31 to get in this year), I can only assume it will get tougher from here.
I’m not on par with most of you guys but I do like going for a run when the weathers nice. Since I’ve upgraded my iphone to the 15, it doesn’t fit in the phone pocket of some of my shorts. I love the shorts linked below, but wanting to try something different, anyone have suggestions? -need brief liner, largish pocket for phone either in the liner or center back pocket https://www.fleetfeet.com/products/mens-brooks-sherpa-7-2-in-1-shorts?sku=211333-001&size=M
lol canceling a race because of heat what was it, mid 70's in the morning? That's beautiful. I get it though, race directors don't want that kind of liability I guess. Some idiot would die.
Hit 1k miles in a year for the first time ever this morning (on Strava anyways, up until a month ago when they integrated with NRC I'd manually import my runs over and I'm still at like 992 there). I don't know if anything has positively impacted my life like running has, crazy to me that I used to think running something like a 10k was out of the question and now I run 7-10 miles a couple of time a week before work as part of a normal routine. Think my only running goal for 2024 will be to get into Chicago and run under 4 hours.
Sunday was my 5th Columbus Marathon. 3:13:41, down from 3:17:28 last year and 3:18:54 the previous year. Going for 3:09 next year.
congrats man! did a half this weekend without training as much, just doing long runs. got the sniffles the week or so before the run and had to shit the entire time. was only 20ish seconds off my summer half pace in which I trained religiously for. Pretty happy with it. Onto the peloton bike until the weather warms back up in the Spring. I hate running in the cold.
It’s is? Anyone else running this year? We’ve got a good sized group coming from Birmingham (maybe like 12 of us). Getting in Thursday and staying until Monday, so we can take in all the breweries on Sunday.
I think it is considered a flatter marathon, but I trained in Chicago - everything felt like a hill. My weather was perfect - mid 40s. There’s a hill around mile 8ish after you’ve crossed the river that I wasn’t expecting. It wasn’t long, but definitely was something I felt later. There’s another hill going over an overpass around mile 20 that’s tough. I hated the finish because it’s too steep downhill and I was scared I was going to fall flat on my face in front of everyone with dead legs. My only thing was I kept rotating between hot and cold because the amount of shade / wind protection changes so much throughout the race.
