Sxsw cancelled due to virus.
Man that sucks for all the up and coming bands that use it as a platform
Been able to hear Local Natives and Bon Iver playing a festival down the street from me tonight. Top floor privilege and such.
Not 100% clear or anything but not bad for free (get in was $94).
someone on Bernie's campaign team needs to go organize a festival after this cycle because these acts are fucking killer
Beto pledged to get Volta back together (apparently played in some punk band with Omar or Cedric back in the day), was really hoping he didn't suck
just gave this album a second listen and I'm gonna have to disagree, for my tastes
honestly ~8 minute songs tend to be right in my sweet spot, just enough time for organic wandering, but not so long to overstay their welcome
really glad to see my enthusiasm not wane for this album, looking forward to giving their recent one a digital spin
Anyone listen to Overcoats new album yet? I enjoyed it.
Being a fan of many "jambands", I like a lot of 8+ minute songs. This song felt like it would be better with quicker changes though. I might have just got bored with the first part. I haven't gotten around to listening to the album.
I imagine the local bars and clubs will still be hosting bands and performers for those that are already in Austin... prob some great opptys for cool pop ups coming soon
all sponsors pulled out so this is doubtful
theyre pushing the get out and support the local bars/restuarant/venues bit pretty hard the last few days here. I wouldnt be surprised to see some grassroots type fundraisers/events pop up. it kind of needed a reset anyway, the corporate sponsorship thing had gotten kind of out of hand the last couple of years
also the new stephen malkmus is great (but Im not sure if he has ever been involved with anything that wasnt)
does anyone ever stop and think about how “silent alarm” is almost a perfect album
I fucking loveeee this US Girls album
Martin Frawley - Nowhere
Bloc Party is a band I need to get into based on the suggestions Spotify gives me
I was thinking just yesterday that Denton After Sunset by Teenage Cool Kids is almost a perfect album
Nap Eyes - Mystery Calling
Uhhh Buehler? NEW PROTOMARTYR ALBUM OUT MAY 29TH
It'll be called Ultimate Success Today
First single is Processed by the Boys
Nicolas Jaar - Sunder
Country Westerns - Anytime
their debut album is out May 1st on Fat Possum
oh and everyone seems to be loving this Porridge Radio album that came out today
that new Protomartyr single has 7.9K thumbs up on YouTube and only 86 thumbs down. And nearly 200K views in the past few days. Not sure who else picked it up besides the usual music outlets, but it must have resonated with a very large group out there
you like to see it
edit, after sorting the comments it appears it is getting big play in Brazil
New Field Medic single, with Alex from Great Grandpa.
Sounds like they used that boom box to record it.
Been listening to a bunch of Caamp lately.
finally getting around to actually listening to this track and holy balls is it good
So good, can’t wait for the album. I’ve had them on repeat since that single came out.
Half Waif - In August
so being stuck working at home Im going through some backlog of albums that Ive dl the last month or so that I havent had a chance to listen to. new caroline rose album was pretty swell.
probably try and listen to a new album a day or something the next month or so, will post updates
I haven't listened to many 2020 albums so far, but I am currently hooked on this Algiers album.
need to give Algiers another listen, after one listen I thought it was extremely bland for them and haven't given it a second chance
Deb Never - Stone Cold
if youre into bleepy bloopy sounds the new four tet album is very soothing
If this is bland and not good for them. Then I am very excited about their earlier work
Their last album "The Underside of Power" was my favorite from '17, you'll notice the difference pretty much right away
I don't listen to their self-titled debut as much but it definitely has its moments, has more of a dark/electronic vibe
Bandcamp Will Forfeit Its Share Of Sales Friday, Urges Direct Support Of Musicians
March 18, 202012:54 PM ET
Bandcamp, the digital storefront and streaming music platform used by hundreds of thousands of artists and thousands of record labels, will forgo collecting its share of revenue from sales on the site made this Friday, March 20, the company announced on Tuesday. The initiative will be active from 12:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m Pacific time.
The global coronavirus outbreak has put many musicians in a state of extreme financial precarity as their main source of income, live performance, has been suspended while the world struggles to contain the pandemic. "For many artists, a single day of boosted sales can mean the difference between being able to pay rent or not," Ethan Diamond, the CEO and co-founder of Bandcamp, writes. "Still, we consider this just a starting point. Musicians will continue to feel the effects of lost touring income for many months to come, so we're also sharing some ideas below on how fans can support the artists they love and how artists can give fans new, creative ways to provide support."
Typically, Bandcamp collects 15% of the revenue from sales of digital music made through its website and app, and 10% from sales of physical goods. It claims to have paid artists some $468 million since its launch in Sept. 2008, and $9.5 million over the past 30 days. Payments for sales of digital goods made through Bandcamp are typically paid to sellers within 48 hours, while the revenue from physical sales is transmitted directly to those artists' or labels' accounts.
In a postscript to Bandcamp's announcement, Diamond reminds readers that the financial effects of the crisis will extend beyond musicians to those who make their living supporting them, "including record store owners and staff, tour managers, event producers, venue staff, lighting and sound professionals, janitors, photographers, bartenders, security guards, and more. We encourage you to find ways to reach out and support those affected in your local communities."
