Anybody been to Hong Kong since the protests started? It's looking like I'll be there for 5 days in December for a client's project, just waiting on confirmation of dates. I'll be in Central Hong Kong, will be staying at either the Grand Hyatt or the Conrad and should have one free day to explore but concerned mainly with transportation due to the current state of things.
my coworker was there 2 weeks ago said didn’t really notice anything overtly on the streets and everything was fine but they were there as tourists
from Credit Card thread a repost but figured it should go here too: 600K chase points from this thread in preparation of a honeymoon, got married in September, does TMB want to plan our honeymoon in early January?
About to start fellowship interviews and will be doing a fair amount of travel. Will need something that I can carry 1-2 suits in. Is it best to get a suit bag or do people just fold and pack in their luggage?
I will have around 24-26 hrs in Mexico City on Jan. 4-5. Any suggestions on Must-Do's, Must-See's, Must-Eat's? Also, I would like to stay at one of the Hyatt properties down there, any thoughts on which ones are in good/enjoyable areas?
I stayed at the Hyatt in Polanco last year. It was a nice hotel in a nice area of the city to walk around, but it was a work trip so I don't know what there is to do entertainment-wise.
For those who fly Delta and are Costco members. They have $1,000 and $500 gift cards 10% off for sale.
i would do a spin around the Zocalo which all walkable and can see several things just walking around there and then head to San Angel and go have a traditional nice Mexico City meal at San Angel Inn and check out Frida’s studio which is free and across the street
my wife has a ton of family who live and are Moab locals and it’s definitely one of my favorite trips we take every summer to visit them, that landscape never gets old
Have a wedding in Paris during May so probably gonna extend the trip and travel around In 2018 I did Paris, Barcelona, Lisbon, Porto In 2019 I did London, Florence, Rome, Capri, and Positano what do I do in 2020?
Basque region = Biarritz/Bayonne then over to San Sebastian and Bilbao. If you have time, Coruna and gaelic spain.
Late Spring is better than summer imo. Especially during the week if it’s not Jeep Week. Fewer people (although still a lot of people), shorter lines at the NPs.
Honestly November was wonderful. Maybe we got lucky but it was mid 50s and clear skies. Minimal people
So the GF arrives in Cancun one day later than me. Not going to drive to Tulum, back to Cancun, then back to Tulum. Anything worth a shit to do in Cancun for approx 24 hours? Nice restaurants?
Glad the weather cooperated for you! November can be nice and it can be miserable. Were most of the restaurants open?
Hey dudes, hopefully some of you can give me advice. My wife really wants to go to Vietnam or Thailand, I do not. Reasons being: I do terrible in humidity It just seems like it would be 'hard' travel language barriers I would like to have a more relaxing time this time around (ex. Hawaii, Mexico) I dont know if a third world country for 2 weeks would be my jam Im sure many of you have been to Vietnam or Thailand, any insight?
Everyone there is really nice, I never had a language issue in the 6 weeks I did both. It’s more along the lines of a borderline 1st/2nd world country than 3rd. The food is incredible and the scenery/history is amazing. Everyone should go if they can
Thanks for the info. Did you stay mainly in hotels, hostels or what? TBH I dont know much about these places (also neither does my wife, she just got this in her head from her computer screen saver lol)
I did hostels all but one night when some girl I met booked a hotel for us. Did one or two overnight buses as well
I'd like to first say, stop being a scared bitch. Seeing your other replies, I don't do hostels. I travel with wife and we do hotels/airbnb. We rocked out 5* hotels across Thailand for $100 or less a night. There isn't a language barrier in Thailand. Thailand may still be developing but you're not going to be far from your creatures comforts. They do have cars and roads there. Bangkok is hectic, but Chiang Mai is very Lowe key and chill. Then you end your trip in the Islands. In the beach, for near nothing, and just chill Best of both worlds
Haven’t been to Vietnam but just went to Thailand and could not recommend it more. Everything is so cheap, beautiful, and relaxing there. There isn’t a language barrier at all and all the locals are extremely nice. I loved Maui but it’s way more expensive then Thailand. Both of those places blow Mexico and the Caribbean out of the water imo.
Those are definitely not third world countries, very developed. Unless you're going way off the beaten path, not hard travel and most everyone will speak (enough) english. I've been to Thailand twice, and spent 3 weeks in Vietnam. Both are absurdly cheap for Westerners -- like $4-5 for an amazing meal, beers less than $1, etc. Some of the best local cuisine in the world (for both). Thailand has postcard beaches and islands, Vietnam not so much. Much different cultures, really cool experience. The only thing that's a legit concern on your list is the humidity -- both countries get hot and humid as fuck. Just research time of year to go, it never gets particularly cold even in winter. Highly, highly recommend. Great introductory countries for SE Asia. Do it.
we'd never went on a real international trip by ourselves before vietnam and it was great, still wifes favorite trip the train station in hue was the only time we felt like what did we get ourselves into but it was fine. and the airport looked like the us military had just left.
Ehh its more that I have been pushing for Spain and my wife has chosen the last 2 trips. I have been trying to poke holes in it to selfishly get what I want.
Coming into the TMB travel thread to be talked out of Thailand? "Hi Democrat thread, my wife thinks poor people should get medicine, I don't want my taxes raised. How do I convince her?"
Trying to be talked into Thailand. I have admittedly tried to poked holes in over the last few months (because I want to go elsewhere) and my wife has really only countered with "its pretty and the food is cheap". Looking for others peoples real insight and experiences.
ive heard thailand is even more catered to westerners than vietnam is, unfortunately haven't been yet to test that
Thailand is this thread's favorite place in the world In general, anyone who has gone there thinks it's one of the five best places to go in the world Go. Apologize to your wife. Then come apologize to us
