Update. Stayed at the airport hotel. Shuttle this morning didn’t show up for 20 minutes. We were the last stop, on the shuttle for ~15 minutes. Get to baggage with 40 minutes before flight and they stop taking bags 45 minutes before.
we spent an afternoon in Piran and I’m not sure there’s a ton to do there for multiple days. Pretty city though. Predjama Castle is cool, as are the Postonja Caves.
At first they said the next flight was 5.5 hours later. Ended up getting us on one 3 hours later. Feels like a huge win. My breakfast sandwich was also very good. Silver linings.
That sucks. The most aggitatated I've been in an airport was American Airlines pre covid in Montreal. They cancelled the early flight bc they didn't have enough staff. They rebooked me for a flight in 45 mins but wouldn't help me expedite through security. By the time I got through the flight was boarded. The only flight that day going back home was flying to NYC then back to KC and there was 2hr wait in Montreal and in NY. For all that trouble they wouldn't upgrade me and gave me a pitiful amount of credit something like $100. Haven't flown with them since
Ha this is American. I think the most irritated I’ve been this trip was when we were first leaving waited in bag check for ~15 minutes. We were second in line and a worker pulls us out of line. I thought she was fast tracking us to the counter. She takes us to a self service kiosk and then just walks away. 4 bags and 2 car seats. And there was a long ass line you had to wait in after getting tags from the kiosk.
Boarding soon for Denver, then driving to Aspen from there. Originally was set to fly into Aspen yesterday at 2pm. Just a 27 hour detour.
We are in Philly, and I needed to use my two free United Club passes before they expire. This is my first time in a lounge, and now I’m afraid I’ve become accustomed to lounge life, and I’m not sure I can go back.
flew through Philly on the way back from a bachelor party once. fucking terminal ac either wasn’t working or wasn’t working well. was like sitting in a sweat shop of despair
It really is. Didn’t see a Clear line at all, but I got through pre-check super quickly. I’m assuming that their United Club isn’t the nicest, but it was definitely nicer than sitting at the gate.
For some reason they have a centurion lounge but it's just a trash airport all around. Went through a 500 yard section with nothing but an occasional emergency light on. It's horrible
COVIDiskilingme79 Whammy yall went to Argentina in 2023, correct? From reading, it looks like Americans can just use their credit/debit cards and it's about the same as the blue dollar rate. Was this yall's experience? Or did you bring a lot of USD to exchange?
We were going off of possibly outdated information and not using CC much. We sent money to ourselves via Western Union and it worked great (except the first day when it took 2.5 hrs). We did go out to dinner one night and we were short on cash so we used card. We did get a discounted rate but I think it was slightly higher than WU. Just know though, in Argentina cash is king. Stores are not supposed to refuse your sale for using cards but there's are some who absolutely will.
Yea after researching it more I'm just going to bring cash to exchange. Especially because we'll be in small towns in the south
Yeah. You can do the black market cash exchange but we just didn't want to fuck with it. The WU app was stupid easy to use, you just had to go to an actual WU office to exchange. We did it 4-5 times and only once was there a bad wait. This is the one we went to in Palermo https://maps.app.goo.gl/NbEoGhwygvYbDvYH6
Flying with Alaska Airlines for the second time, but the first time since moving to PDX (meaning it will be my primary airline) and I'm already happy because I didn't pay for WiFi but apparently I can still use it for internet.
At the Pensacola airport bar, vacation mode engaged. There is a loud, inebriated redneck girl at the bar flying Pensacola ("PNS") to Charlotte ("CLT"). I have heard "Penis to clit, direct!" at least 5x. It's hella cute and attractive.
That sounds like a mistake, unless you are referring to the restricted (airline website and IP based messaging like whatsapp) that both AS and UA offer free of charge...
Delta has been rolling out free basic WiFi so my assumption is that other airlines are trying to follow suit.
What’s the furthest you’ve ever been able to get your pregnant wife to fly? Couldn’t get her to go to Europe. Pushing for NYC.
Just got home from 8 days in Paris/Amsterdam with my 28 week pregnant wife. Granted, we had plus points to use and flew business, but we were planning to be in premium economy for the slightly extra space for her
wife traveled four months pregnant with kid one to Spain and four months pregnant with kid two to Chile. It’s fine, just wear compression socks.
For anyone going to Amsterdam, this is your list to follow. We ate all meals at places from here and they were all great. Highlights for me were Box Sociaal, nNea, and Breadwinner. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency away from the main tourist areas and really liked it, had easy access to the tram and a metro stop too. Huge fan of Amsterdam and it easily beats Paris for me, it was wild to see how different the two are after starting the trip in Paris.
Flights weren’t a problem at all, agree with the above on compression socks. I was worried how she’d handle all the walking but it wasn’t an issue at all, we had a couple lighter/leas busy days between some of our more active days but she never felt too exhausted for anything
When were you in Chile lol - pretty sure I met and talked to you and your wife in line at the airport
Ahhh well nevertheless - uncanny, had a long conversation with a US couple who had a little one and pregnant with another and had recently been to Spain. They were visiting fam in Chile
We rented an airbnb for the first few nights in the Pearl Aruba Condos. Nothing super fancy but it was clean and location was good. Last night we stayed at the Aruba Marriot. We did the airbnb for the first few nights cause we rented a car and were hopping all over the island. Did the Marriott for just the one night to get a proper just beach bum day. At the Marriott we talked to multiple different people that had been there for 5 days and had not left the resort once, don't get me wrong, the beach there was nice but there is a lot of cool shit to do on that island so that kind of blew my mind.
If we go on a beach vacation we aren’t doing shit but sit on the beach. Could care less what there is to do on whatever island. Not saying it’s good, bad, right or wrong but just our preference.
This is my wife. I can do about 2-3 days of that and then I get a little bored. I'm somewhere in between the two mindsets. I want to sit on the beach a good bit but also get out and do some stuff too.
