though to be fair i took a break and played almost only PUBG for a while.
NIP is back. just beat Faze in a BO5.
that was one of the best grand finals i've ever seen
SK - Faze going into map 4 right now. ESL Pro league final.
Been watching all weekend but the English stream keeps crashing
sk is so fucking good
When Faze first went off and won their first tourney I thought for sure it was going to be a Faze era. Then SK quickly reminded me it's still the SK era..
I'm glad SK that has worked at it so long is prevailing over just throwing a bunch of money to make a super team though.
edit: might have spoken too soon
this is a hell of a comeback, wouldn't be mad if we had a full 5 maps
That knife holy fuck
one of the most insane plays ive seen
Definitely. And one of the best maps I can remember. Final deciding, insane runs from both teams, that knife to force OT.
It's so ridiculous that we know the best team in the world is forced to play the major with a stand in.
i haven't played in a long time but i saw this and it killed me
"BOT Fred doesn't like taking orders"
Just realized I played on the same org (for CoD2/CoD4, not CS) as Rush and Nitr0 used to play for. (sgares, dazed, m0e, hiko, and others too)
Now I have an excuse to root for both the NA teams.
damn, thats awesome. looks like they went on to be quantic, which had n0thing, dazed, semphis, and swag too
also, i've been playing a lot more lately. i'm ready to call myself an awper, but in silver everyone buys one so i just stick to rifling.
also, cloud9 major legends hype
Damn we had no posts about the group stages huh. Some great matches. My bet is on G2/Faze final.
And then Quantic became complexity, which became C9? Well damn. I'm going to claim I basically played with C9 now.
same. c9 against g2 in the quarters is absolutely brutal. that group stage game was not too fun to watch.
A51 used to have an awesome Quake 3 team back in the day. I wonder if it’s the same org. When I say back in the day I mean like 200-2001 time frame. The Quake 3 team of the org I was in used to scrim then regularly. In fact one of their guys is featured in Annihilation HQ, the greatest Quake 3 frag movie ever and an homage to the greatness of the game.
Complexity started long before Quantum. Jason “1” Lake, a lawyer in Atlanta was the first true esports team owner that he built from the ground up. He paid a bunch of guys salaries to play. We played them their first season in CAL-Open. He had a team with a bunch of professional and semi professional players and they stomped us. By 2004-2006ish coL had their best 1.6 lineup with fr0d, storm, warden, hare, and maybe another.
Lake stepped back from the org sometime in the late 2000s but still is active in the industry.
fr0d, what a fucking legend
Yeah it is the same org. I believe crow was on that quake team (and/or on their UT team at the same time) and he started the CoD team when he switched games. He would always talk about those guys / be nostalgic of those games. I played with him some of my time on A51 but most of the old guard moved on and it became our team. Of course back in those times having the best orgs basically just meant free servers, entry fees paid, and maybe some swag. I got paid like $100 each time we did x-fire "play with the pros" nights which was pretty cool as a kid.
And on Col, I know the org exists way before that. Them and EG are the two big orgs I remember from way back. Was just saying that the 5 players on Quantum were picked up by Col to become the legendary US team in CSGO that was in the majors and eventually became the C9 we now know.
Funny enough it looks like A51 is actually trying to come back with pubg:
Quake 3 is the epitome of a nostalgia game. Those guys were insane. When you watch that Annihilation movie, it’s the game that Overwarch wants to be in terms of game mechanics and pace of play.
I played on the CS team from 1.3-1.5 in that clan in OGL, CAL, and UGS. The Quake group was awesome though. Older guys and super chill. We had servers and a ventrilo. Lots of fun.
Damn, I guess I shouldn't underestimate C9. That's fucking ridiculous. G2 comes through 6-0 with C9 barely squeaking by, then C9 just runs over them. I missed the second map, will need to catch a replay.
C9 is so individually talented. It allows them to play sites differently than a lot of teams on CT side and they're such good aimers that they win a lot of cheap ecos on both sides. The difference between this team and its predecessors is that above all of that they've learned to play as a team. They're awesome at reading pushes, popflashing, waiting on teammates to take sites, trading, and knowing when and when not to gamble. The 2nd map in the pool is always what the opposing team chooses to play which makes them dominating CT side 12-3 so impressive. They lose T pistol but win gun round and close them out 16-8.
The most impressive thing is they don't have a true IGL. Tarik and Rush split duties but it also appears that any of them can make a call on the fly.
They will face the winners of fnatic (swedes) and SK Gaming (brazilians and best team in the world) tomorrow. They play the Brazilians pretty well regardless so it should be a great match. The SK and fnatic quarterfinal is tomorrow and then the first semifinal and then C9 in the second.
Had to run to the store and the first map ended before I even got back, damn. Will need to watch a replay of that destruction later.
Dude they rolled them on mirage. And then got outplayed on cbble.
Jesus this is definitely not the same C9 team, this is nasty disrespect on SK in a major semifinal...
Holy fuck, grand finals boys!
Just looking at the stats now, and I’ll be watching all three maps later tonight. Holy ducking carry from Tarik on inferno.
They were incredible. Skadoodle being on was the difference today. RUSH is so consistent he's also often overlooked but he was incredible today too.
i remember watching him on optic before stanislaw left, and thinking to myself how consistently good he was. so happy he's on c9
and i know SK had a stand in, but felps is still pretty damn good and was on that team for a while
they won 5 tournies with felps but his gameplay is different than what they get with boltz. They'll be really tough to beat with boltz.
you guys have to watch the caster showmatch game. I have laughed nonstop. The casting is top notch and hilarious
gonna find a vod of that later on. love those talent showmaps.
also, map 3 hype
Major champs bois!
Ahhhhhhhhh! Insanity. What an awesome major
I chose the wrong day to move into my new place. Will need to watch the map 3 vod tonight. What a run. Beating teams ranked 1, 2, 3, and 4.
plus virtus pro. i know they are a shell of their former selves, but they have always demolished NA teams.
I’m telling you that Inferno map was the best final map in a final I’ve ever seen and I’ve been watching CS majors since the CPL days of the early 2000s. Prior to C9, this was the best win for America.
Disclaimer that I didn’t watch any CS: Source because it was a simpletons game and an inferior product.
source gave us one of the best ever videos though so it's hard to totally discount it
Haha yeah. That’s a great video but it also highlights how dumb the game was with the deagle.
Jesus christ you weren't kidding, what a fucking final. Will go down in history for sure. Faze's luck to even get out of the first OT is utterly insane. And C9s run to even get to the first OT. You couldn't have scripted that final or that major to be any better.
I don't think anyone else reads this thread, but if anyone does they should watch this:
Watched it live. Was a beautiful thing.
It was incredible. Stew was streaming last night and was like we literally threw every round T side in the first OT. When he lost the 1v1 he was devastated but he said Tarik and Ska were like nice try haha. And super calm and whatever. It’s amazing they came back.
It’s also interesting that that was the first tournament they played without Logitech as a mouse sponsor. Rush and Tarik play with Logitech mice but the rest went straight to zowie. Autimatic changed his res and sensitivity midway through the major. He went to 1024 stretched and 1.8 to 1.49.
Placebo effect at its finest. He’s since changed back. Just so nuts.
That's nuts, you would think with the amount of practice hours that he has it wouldn't be as easy to drastically switch sensitivity. All your muscle memory gone...
I know right. I change sens and it’s like days before I feel comfortable. Granted I changed from standard to stretch and that makes horizontal motion different.
just a heads up, the best cs tourney of the year is happening (cs_summit)
they got demolished, but it was so fun watching torqued play vs sk
I loved the last summit, but what a shitty time for summit. Major just ended and personally I'm super busy. The lineup is also pretty lackluster, but the semi-final and final games should still be great.
Also you guys should grab battalion 1944 so we can group up. It's like old CoD, so like CS but world war era.
