I I get the pragmatism of this sentiment and largely agree, but maybe we should blame the dumbs instead of Hillary for just once...
The story on NPR over the weekend way their first indigenous person was elected like 14 years ago and has cheated bigly in the most recent re election and the people are pissed
I had a nice conversation with one of my coworkers today about who he would vote for. Apparently only Buttigieg and Gabbard are qualified to be president because they served in the military. "Yeah that makes sense" said another Why are we so dumb?
Because troop hero worship has got so bad that they’re all infallible heroes in the soft mind of the public
http://www.resumenlatinoamericano.o..._J49pNk3rbeJU9giE1oIweE4RjK8fCN7OEHLudDbnCVcA Reports that the military are joining the police in the ongoing street clashes with Evo supporters and that La Paz is under martial law. It's pretty close to a civil war. Fuck
The story as it is right now is that there may have been voter irregularities (which seems to be in dispute from observers) that favored an incumbent who tried for a third term sanctioned by their supreme court, who had ruled that his previous 1st term, I believe, would not be counted as an ex-post facto thing. The term limit was ratified during his second term He agreed that there were voter irregularities and sought to re-do the election with international observers manning stations so that everything was on the up-and-up, and the far right, aristocratic wing mobilized immediately, somehow, and demanded he resign. Dictator that he is, he did resign very quickly after his family was targeted with violence, namely, burning their houses down. Also the entirely line of succession resigned almost immediately until it hit literally the 2nd deputy senate majority leader who happened to be a far right opposition leader. This is the... very very "broad stroke" of it, but it's been brewing for a while. After nationalizing some industries, and selling mining rights to China as well as a ton of agriculture (which, for the Bolivian public, has generally been a good thing, though """conservative""" critics argued that it damaged national parks and water sources for indigenous peoples (which I promise you conservatives don't actually give a shit about in Bolivia) ), well, wouldn't ya know, there are huge deposits of Lithium in them mountains, as well as other industrially-important materials. A more cynical person would peak at american companies' stocks whose main products rely on lithium over the past week or two. Moreover, most South American well-to-do society feel they owe a debt to nazis. This isn't being particularly snarky, this is a thing among lighter-skinned south americans of means. Fleeing nazis from Germany and their families settled in latin america and brought their training, their expertise, their education systems, and their economic minds to these places. While in the US, nazi-dom is spurred on by being hapless incel losers, in many affluent parts of South America, former nazi party people inserted themselves in to their communities, and gosh they were just so nice to their new neighbors! It's so hard to believe Joanna Eichmann-Menegele next door was a part of all that back in Germany - our kids play together for heck's sake! While the anti-semitism is still there, much of that targeted hatred went in to this time stoking anger towards indigenous populations, because, well, they're right there, and their skin, stature, and culture is just so inferior to us more-recently-european folks! We've only been here but for 5+ generations, not like them! Bolivia would end up electing a communist indigenous leader who would build social programs servicing these communities, increase rural nursing training for medical outreach, etc. This is very politely, among educated people of class, made out to be a waste of time because they are regarded still a bit like animals. That tweet about pricing people out of water access goes to show why such a leader would end up being elected. So, socially, as you can tell from these people flying the nazi flag, burning native symbols of unity, and ritualistically proclaiming that one of the Andean gods much of the population worships will be disregarded and saying Bolivia belongs to Jesus Christ, that there's been a ton of backlash, and the organization and frog-marches of it all, pageantry, etc., well it's hard to believe it's not a foreign/organized funded coup edit: lmfao
I just did a full social media reboot and am officially off the "responding to dumb MAGA cunts on twitter" drugs for good.
I’m old enough to remember when Trump purposely wouldn’t let Spicer meet the pope when he found out how much of a devout Catholic Sean was
people tried to feign sympathy for Spicer but my mindset was FUCK EM and Spicey still debased himself daily even after all that
Bolivia stuff should be a separate thread...shouldn't need to sift through this thread to find info about it
There is no real evidence of malfeasance in the election. The press simply doesn't understand how their tallying system works and overreacted to late counted votes (from more rural areas) swinging heavily in favor of Morales (which was expected!) and made it seem like he had cheated to win... which really isn't true.
So if this the best four points you have at this point, you’re struggling. 1. People on the call refute this 2. Guy accused of crimes denies crimes. 3. Pretty sure testimony says otherwise 4. Yes days after the whistleblower came forward.
http://www.oas.org/documents/spa/press/Informe-Auditoria-Bolivia-2019.pdf And of course, the only reason why Morales was running for re-election is that his handpicked Supreme Court overturned a referendum that rejected his attempt to amend the constitution to permit him to exceed two terms by saying the constitution’s imposition of term limits interfered with his human rights.
i've seen nothing to make there be anything close to a "both sides" argument tenable especially when history shows the hair trigger support we have for right wing coups, see honduras '09. its truly insane what we'll accept from right wing governments if they let us profit vs the mild shit a lefty government will do causing a coup.
seeing the cuban arguments but for bolivia now my family used to own slaves and destroy the country for profit please try to understand this was the good times
I just will never understand what spell people allow themselves to be under that makes them take such an oath of unyielding loyalty to Trump
Fox News doesn't understand zombies . They represent consumerism and greed. Mindlessly feeding of the living. Romero lays it on pretty thick having them flock to a shopping mall
