Nah they’re straight up booty tonight. Guys completely missing assignments This is mostly four man rushes and we’ve got multiple dudes touching no one while a rusher goes untouched
We’re not particularly good at football but on the bright side, neither is……checks notes…..says here UTEP miners are also not good.
In defense of OL ,a lot of offensive lines have & will going to struggle with UGA’s creepers. Talent was and will be continue being an issue for a couple of years. What should be more worrying is the lack of organization on coaches wasting timeouts due to personnel issues, Doty’s inability to check the protection, false start penalties, etc.
If any player from any team other than USC made that catch, it would be on Sports Center nonstop for three weeks straight.
if i was a high school QB, and I watched that game, I would absolutely not want to play for us. No reasonable person would stand behind that offensive line without a handgun.
Our OL has been letting blitzers run free all season. Yea, UGA’s front 7 was going to beat us in one on one match ups for sure, but they had guys running untouched into our backfield all game. At this point, I’d be shocked if Doty survives the season.
Anything we can change this week scheme wise with the OL or is this a complete Jimmys and Joes issue?
A good schematic change would be to tell our RG to do more than high five defenders running past him 1 out of every 4 plays.
i saw a lot of cases where our OL was physically outmatched, which is obviously a long-term problem but we also looked unprepared. our guys often failed to identify what was happening, failed to respond to it at all. I doubt that is schematics, i think that is coaching and preparation. you have to run a shit ton of reps, and ensure each player is drilled to react to a variety of different situations.
Big issue I see with the OL is that they aren’t prepared to block based on the play. There are a lot of passing plays where the LT will drive down field at a defender (or no one at all). Typically the LT should be back peddling and creating a pocket. Additionally the interior has trouble identifying who to block which I think we’ve all seen this season. Should be easy fixes honestly but I’m not hopeful based on early returns here.
Well we can start by doing a better job of not snapping the ball until all of our OL’s know who they are supposed to block, but that strategy will probably see an uptick in delay of game penalties. But it’s also a tackle talent issue. They are just getting abused one on one too.
Also, we are committing way too many penalties, especially with regards to false starts. Our oline is just not performing well in any facet. I’m not even sure who the oline coach is, but if we don’t see some significant improvement through the season we may need to look into a replacement.
Georgia was just extremely good. I don't know if its the "best college defense ive ever seen" but its one of the most intimidating looking. i just looked and apparently they had the #1 recruiting class in 2018, 2019, and 2020
That dude def needs to be fired. I don’t even care if they improve. This is the most poorly coached OL I’ve ever seen here.
Our next 4 games look pretty winnable. UK Troy @UT Vandy I think we probably split 2-2 with losses to UK and Tenn.
Greg Adkins was named the Gamecocks’ offensive line coach on Jan. 22, 2021. Adkins comes to Carolina after having spent the past three seasons as the offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator at Marshall University, working under head coach Doc Holliday. Marshall posted a 24-12 record from 2018-20 in what was his second tour of duty with the Thundering Herd. In 2020, the Thundering Herd surrendered 12 sacks in 10 games, ranking 13th in the country, while allowing just 3.5 tackles for loss per game, the nation’s fourth-best mark. Right guard Cain Madden earned second team All-America honors from both the Associated Press and Walter Camp. Madden and fellow offensive lineman Josh Ball were named first-team All-Conference USA, while Alex Mollette was a second-team selection. Under Adkins’ tutelage, offensive linemen Levi Brown was a first-team All-Conference USA center in both 2018 and 2019, while Madden earned second team honors in 2019. Adkins began his coaching career at his alma mater, mentoring the defensive line, tight ends and offensive line at Marshall for five seasons from 1991-95. He was on the staff that won the 1992 Division I-AA national championship and appeared in three other I-AA national title games (1991, ’93 and ’95). Between his two tours of duty at Marshall, Adkins coached the offensive line at six schools, including four Power-5 schools, two of which are in the SEC. His resume includes stints at Georgia (1996-2000), Troy (2001-02), Tennessee (2003-08), Syracuse (2009-12), Oklahoma State (2015-17) and Charlotte (2018). He also handled recruiting duties at Syracuse, Tennessee and Troy; coached tight ends and defensive line at Georgia; mentored the tight ends at Tennessee; and served as Charlotte’s run game coordinator and interim offensive coordinator. Adkins also has NFL experience, having a two-year stint in Buffalo as the Bills’ tight ends coach from 2013-14. Born March 25, 1968, Adkins is a native of Cross Lanes, West Virginia. He played four seasons as an offensive lineman at Marshall, graduating in 1990. THE GREG ADKINS FILE PERSONAL • Hometown: Cross Lanes, W. Want to take us to cover the +6 UK spread, but I think UK’s offensive performance last week was an aberration, and with OL being as disorganized as it is, I can’t see us consistently sustaining scoring drives. Only way we win that game is if our DL goes off and forces several turnovers.
That’s all good and stuff, but he took a group that was decent last year, lost one person, and suddenly blitzers are running free all game every game.
The only guy I think is a personnel issue on the OL is Jazston Turnstile The rest of it just appears to be a poor job of communicating and identifying where the blitz is coming from and not having the protection adjusted correctly which leads to the misses. I think that's exacerbated by essentially being in a really loud, unfriendly environment for the first time really in two years but it's not encouraging that they can't find ways to fix this when we were seeing it to some extent against EIU and ECU.
jrmy is kidding around. The guy's name is Jackson Turpentine https://gamecocksonline.com/sports/football/roster/jazston-turnetine/7931
Can we hide parts of the thread from lurking Clemson fans? Spoiler: USC bros only I didn't really like the part of the broadcast Saturday where they were like "Luke Doty grew up a big Clemson fan." Makes me feel like he couldn't get in there so he came here so he could play but he doesn't really give a shit what happens, just suck it up and that's probably good enough for Carolina
I mean that's objectively true, he wanted to go there but they didn't want him. Which in hindsight is kinda dumb because I don't think he's any worse than DJ.
