What is behind GG Jackson's "reconsideration"? Does this mean he loves Lamont Paris, or is it just something external. Would love to see a vote of confidence in the new coach from a good player

From the TBS insiders it sounds like he wants to get to the NBA asap. Sounds like people in his camp are pointing out that a lockout and a restructuring of future contracts that would not be as lucrative for players will very likely happen before he is drafted if he stays in his current classification. He’ll need to reclassify to this year’s signing class to avoid that.

He had a great showing at a national camp/showcase that had all the best prospects for this years signing class, and the assumption is that he or his people or whatever started thinking if he stands to go super high in this draft class too he might as well do it now than wait until after a potential lockout.

I think UNC has room for him in this class, it just seems like they don’t want to give him the same size NIL bag for this signing class, and maybe we were able to scrounge up the dough to offer more than what they were willing to do this year.

we did have room but he kept telling our staff that he didn't want to reclassify so they gave the spot to Nance

UNC doesn’t have the space for him to reclassify, which probably frustrates UNC due to the family telling them all along he had no interest in reclassifying. This seems like mom and others had this backdoor plan potentially brewing for awhile and the showcase performance/NBA CBA was all they needed to make the shift.

Idk how much of this is Paris tbqh, but the optics are still good. It looks like Paris always held out hope and kept the scholarships open, but in reality the family was probably communicating to do so in the event.

Correct, it wasn’t Paris but more of a Jackson decision for the NBA. The transfer Nance was a more important piece than Jackson presently and when Jackson decided to reclassify there was no more room. Sucks but it is what it is.

Do you have dead weight in the roster you could have pushed out if you knew GG would reclassify? Because I agree Nance is better in 2022/23 but both would have been tight, no?

I am still off the USC train until Ray Ray leaves. After Muschamp hire followed up with Beamer in football, Kingston in baseball, and then the mess in the basketball search I couldn’t take it. How the man still has a job is bananas to me. Hopefully USC hires a real AD in next search.

Dead weight has already been transferred out. Walton and Garcia made room for all the studs to come back, Black, Love, and Bacot all are coming back along with new freshman. Only room for Jackson in the 23 class. Hubert knows we have another shot at a title this year and Nance was missing piece we lost in Manek.

But it is awesome home town product is going to stay home and be a program changing type of prospect even if it is only for a year. He will mean more to USC then he ever would at UNC in terms of publicity, being the face of a program, and changing USC basketball from a national perspective.

They will never do this, but need to go back to the Coliseum. Great venue and it is extremely unique. Everytime I venture into Columbia from Lexington I get a little sad seeing the Coliseum and that cookie cutter arena USC uses now. Hell, even UNC has played at Carmichael within past 3 years.

I was in school ‘10-‘14 with the goat Spurrier era and elite football/players, but it’s funny to me ppl bitch about Muschamp and Beamer as if we should be luring away the Jimbo Fishers of the world. Dawg this program has a barely .500 wining percentage and 1 conference championship in 115 years. What’s there to be THAT mad about

Dawg, ranked top 5 in country and settle on Muschamp post Spurrier. Let that sink in. Top 5 in the country finish a few years prior and we hire a coach that failed at Florida. Spurrier wanted to walk away in 14, but Tanner urged him to stay and here we are. There will never be the momentum in this program like Spurrier had built and threw it away to hire a failed coach that had keys to a program that has more $ and success. Spurrier showed you can win here and it was thrown away. South Carolina was the hottest it will ever be with UGA, FLA, and Tenn all being down during those years. No one even wanted Beamer as a head coach yet because people like him here and he is cheap, let’s hire him.

Will USC ever be Bama or UGA? No, but it is also that loser mentality that I hate about USC fans. “Well, we have sucked for a long time what difference does it make so why even try to compete?”

I’m excited about Bosnic transferring to hogs. I know he had some shit injury luck but he was pretty nails and remember him mowing us down a couple years ago. I think the injuries will scare teams off enough that he’ll fall down draft boards enough and play college ball next year, but we’ll see.

Hello my fellow #Brothers in Cock. Weird question. Probably one that doesn’t have a good answer besides what can be found via google. But: anyone have a go-to gamecock apparel online store? We dont get much gamecock gear out here in Missouri. All my gc clothes are pretty old or busted or old and busted. Was talking with friends and fam about which games I’m going to go to and that got me wanting to get some new swag. Not real enthused with what I’m seeing online so far :(

Couple of quick notes from the online dressing room:

    • Honestly a little surprised at how decent some of these options are. My last window shopping of Carolina gear made me feel like that might be the last time I look for gamecock clothes. It was pretty bad.

    • Under armors on site selections are trash. The custom mens running shoe they have for us isn’t bad tho.

    • but where tf does under armor get the gall to charge anyone $120 for their shoes lmao boy bye

    • the shoes do have a tasteful amount of yellow on in them and it makes me wish we’d incorporate that yellow in the same way on our uniforms.

    • thought I’d be more into the vintage home field stuff. I might get the “Here’s a health, gamecocks” crew neck that shit fire

    • gamecocks online and the bookstore link TC sent both have some good shit.

    • But ofc, while we have one of the coolest and most unique mascot names in the country, or branding geniuses have the same mindset as our dumbass gamecock central demographic and seem hell bent on pushing the narrative that we are the real “Carolina” like anyone else in the country thinks that or gives a fuck. 90% of our sweaters and shirts say Carolina and like 1% of them say the word Gamecock. Stupid.

I have the exact opposite complaint about Carolina Panthers gear. Literally every shirt says Panthers. They hardly put the word Carolina on anything. Panthers feels generic and corporate, I want a tie to my local community

Yea Panthers is a boring as name. And honestly Carolina makes sense from a branding standpoint for them as they are right there on the border and should obviously try to make both SC and NC people feel connected to them.

I will never forget the comeback he engineered vs Bama in 2001 :ohdear:

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ncaafb/phil-petty-south-carolina-qb-great-has-died/ar-AAZPsGO

Former South Carolina quarterback Phil Petty has died. He was 43 years old.

Petty was a three-year starter at quarterback for South Carolina and led the Gamecocks to back-to-back Outback Bowl victories against Ohio State in 2001 and 2002. He was a finalist for the Johnny Unitas award, given to the top quarterback in the country, during his senior season.

Petty was MVP of the 2002 Outback Bowl after throwing for 227 yards and two scores in the 31-28 win over the Buckeyes.

Petty took a job in June on the Gray Collegiate football staff. Gray Collegiate head coach Adam Holmes’ confirmed Petty’s passing on Thursday morning. Petty and Holmes were teammates at USC and also were in each other’s weddings.

“He was my brother and a leader of our team,” Holmes told The State. “He led us to the turnaround we had and was a great friend, great dad and husband.”

A cause of death was not immediately known.

During his last two seasons at USC, Petty completed 306-of-547 passes for 4,079 yards and 17 touchdowns while leading South Carolina to a 17-7 record. He threw for 2,110 yards in 2000, helping the Gamecocks to an 8-4 mark, which completed the greatest single-season turnaround in Division I-A history after an 0-11 campaign in 1999.

Petty’s 5,656 career passing yards are seventh overall in South Carolina’s record books. His 17 victories as starting QB are seventh-most all-time.

After USC, Petty signed as a free agent with the Tennessee Titans but was released. He worked for a few years as an assistant coach with the East Carolina football team.
