I’m still confused as hell on some of it, but damn an episode with George Michael and Sturgill Simpson hits for me.
I can’t imagine not reading the book and this really all coming together for anyone wrt a pure enjoyment factor.
Reznor and Ross I swear. The flamenco version of Carless Whisperer followed by the two piano version. Dear god guys, just nailed the scenes.
I keep replaying the long shot that starts with him screaming outside of the funhouse. “How The West Was Really Won” is my favorite track of the soundtrack so far.
I am also a movie/wiki educated fan like NYGator and get pretty much all of the references from those two sources. I think Lindelof has also done a good job creating new storylines to pick up organically. I watched the last ep with my sis who loves the show and hasn't consumed any material previously. For her the real life tie ins like the Tulsa Massacre are enough to get interested. And obv the acting/directed/music composition is top notch and stands out on its own ...
I think that's #2 for me behind "WATCH OVER THIS BOY." Reminds me of NIN's "Right Where It Belongs." Also reminiscent of the piano bits in HTDA's "A Drowning."
I can not recommend non-book readers picking it up immediately. It’s like $14. I’m rereading now and and aside from the story itself being great, the panels are perfectly laid out.
RT. I watched episode one and bought the book a week or two later. I knew nothing about any of it and it's an awesome read.
It’s one of those things you will knock out really quick because it’s just so engaging. I assure you that whatever joy you are getting from the show now will be amplified. The show is just a perfect continuation
I'm enjoying watching the show without reading the book. i did see the movie a while back and have wiki'ed some things over the years as the MCU expanded to read up on some of the watchmen story. i'm sure there's a great deal of extra depth and throw-ins that i'm missing (that i see on twitter or reddit) but the show is really good without having read the book, i assure you.
I knew I should not have opened that thread this soon....I think I know what you are talking about but I did not watched. I am done here until Thursday, only time I can really watch
All the tracking shots, kinda like Goodfellas but in black and white to emphasize the racial tensions...
Lol yeah that was fucking insane. The music was unbelievable and we didn’t deserve the cinematography.
Fuck them. People who can’t just enjoy this show aren’t worth mentioning or acknowledging. This is an extremely well done show. I hope Damon gets enough positive response to continue this on in some way, even if it was written to be a complete story.
I’m worried about the story getting wrapped up in 3 episodes because I’m still not sure what the story is exactly.
I am pretty sure the story is about the fight against white supremacists and how all of the parties overlap with it, but I agree with your premise. I enjoyed yesterday's episode and it provided a lot of character development and also served to help connect timelines.
i kind of started having this thought too. I guess it’s about the “vast and insidious conspiracy in Tulsa.” I’ve got confidence in it finally weaving together. Trieu connects to all of the other storylines in some way. It feels like she’s playing the Veidt-like role from the book of the savior who nobody asked for. also the book didn’t really make clear what it was *about* until the eleventh hour either. Not sure if that really works in TV too but so far I’m enjoying the ride. It’s remarkable how much each episode feels like a chapter in the book as its own vignette that overlaps with the overarching story.
I think the story is a lot like the book. The world is at a boiling point wrt racial tension (much like the cold war in the book) and you have an alliance of characters with an idea to bring the world together. Issues relevant to the time The veidt story also gives me Black Freighter vibes.
I had the same thought of racial tension being this story’s version of nuclear war. I’m not sure it’s selling me on that though. 7th Kav seems very confined to just Tulsa and I hope that expands nationwide or globally a bit. Otherwise Trieu/Veidt attempting to save the “world” doesn’t really work
I may have missed something so can someone help out here? The episode shows how Will was secretly Hooded Justice, the original superhero and what all that entailed. But who was the white guy/hooded justice at the very beginning of the episode?
Ahhhh, the American hero thing or whatever it's called? I completely missed that but it makes sense within the context of the secret and racial stuff going on. Thanks
the one thing that throws me is how dismissive the senator was regarding the racial aspect of the 7th Kav. seems like there's something bigger there.
Any time you see the Zack Snyder-style fight scenes, it’s the tv show That thing was clever in showing how historical retellings can be so inaccurate.
I honestly can’t wait to watch that episode again because it was just scene after fucking scene of brilliance. the entire scene with will and judd was just the best
really enjoyed how effective the minimal dialogue was...it perfectly encapsulated my own feelings about confederate “pride”. Judd said the klan robes were his grandpa’s and he has a right to his “heritage.” Reeves asks if he’s so proud, why keep it hidden?
