I took them fighting with each other as impacts from Machin Shin. I would have liked it being more murdery than just playing on insecurities though.
I did as well, but Nynaeve mentioning that Rand and Perrin both always try to own Egwene didn’t really make sense because it’s their own insecurities they heard. Sure that would play on Rand’s, but no reason for Nynaeve to think that.
That little love triangle was silly. That opening fight scene.Best so far Machin Shin was unsettling. I liked it. Want to listen to Loial explain more things Hope they give more backstory for Lan later on. Blight looks good And damn Moraine just throwing Mat to the Reds
Imagine Lan waking up thinking Moirane hid her bond because he smashed Nynaeve and then the wave of relief realizing Rand was gone too Great ep. Stoked to see it finish! That ep was 40min. Hope the finale is 1 hour+
Oh I wonder if when I paused it, it in fact showed the time remaining and not the total time. My bad if so. Streaming services are different
Regarding the finale Spoiler As a book reader, I had some sense of what was going on. My wife or any other just show watcher it has to be tough. To throw in sa'angreal, cuendillar, Horn of Valere all about a minute of showtime seemed so rushed. Not to mention a sneak peek at the Seanchan, without any mention of what the continent/continents look like. Seems like a poor job of bringing in the Forsaken as well, with only mentioning them once in the entire season. Amazon did Rafe no favors making the first season only 8 episodes. Seems unorganized, too packed in. Will keep watching though. And WTF, how they gonna do my boy Loial like that.
Just finished the finale. I knew very little about the series going into the season. Being a gigantic ASOIAF nerd caused me to literally break my own heart, and what little I’ve read online seems to have book readers losing their shit. I’m just going to remain blissfully ignorant moving forward. I thought the second half of the season was a significant step up from the first couple episodes, but the finale seemed rushed and anticlimactic which left me wanting. Reading the tea leaves it definitely seems like an epic fantasy series where the show runner is struggling with pacing, deciding what to keep, deciding what to cut, and what to reimagine for TV.
Called the Seanchan. They are important in the books. I'll put more in the spoilers for those interested that don't care about some more information that isn't in the show yet. Of course, the showrunner may change the basis behind them since he's done that to the core mythology of the books already. Spoiler A long time ago, the king over the land the show is set it sent an army across the sea to conquer the land of Seanchan. They never came back. This is that army coming back to the homeland. They capture channelers and chain them (damane) so they can only channel when ordered to (by suldame, the people standing behind the channelers.
I’ve literally read the series years ago and re read the first book a month ago. And I’m struggling to keep up. Damn there’s a lot to unpack. I think they’ve done a poor job of explaining a lot of things. 10 episodes would have been more ideal. I imagine the pacing will get better as time goes on. Seems they want to focus or make Egwene stronger or more important. And downplaying how important or powerful Rand is. It wasn't horrible and could've been better but Sanderson said they're trying to get some things quicker. Plus the showrunner has said he knows he won't please the hardcore fans.
I didnt read the books. I was able to follow things pretty well (i think) until the last couple eps. I’m kind of lost.
Amazon kinda fucked themselves over tackling such an expansive story with only 8 episodes. Like why half ass the introduction? They barely touched Lews Therin, introduced Seanchan with no context and changed a lot of the climax of the first book. Perrin is made to look like a huge bitch. If the women could've just channeled and annihilated the trollocks like that, why did they stand back and let the king and soldiers die first. Spoiler interesting choice to go with gags instead of leash and collar
pretty disappointed by that finale. I like the story though. might have to start reading. was the first season basically the whole first book?
It was loosely the whole first book, with major events and the ending greatly changed to the point of being almost unrecognisable.
So the dude selling shit in EP1 is who? What did he steal? I thought they killed or captured the dark one so who is the dude working for that wants all 5 alive? someone mentioned the actor playing Mat left the show entirely are they planning on recasting and zero hint at who the 5th member of the group is unless I’m a moron and just lost it. I loved this season but as someone mentioned the last two episodes lost me and kinda make me just want to audio book the series before the next season starts.
The Horn of Valere which was mentioned above,, calls back hero’s of the past to fight in the last battle when blown.
This is encouraging for next season, because that last episode was obviously a shit show but it makes sense why. also I saw some comments earlier about why not show Lews Theron killing his family, but they already did that in the origins cartoons in decent detail. I am going back to watch all the extras now to see if they fill in any detail.
I just watched all of the behind the scenes, and they gave you a great perspective on how hard these shows are to make. It’s actually pretty amazing how many moving parts there are to manage. It’s hard to appreciate it by just watching the show. The only thing that really annoys me about these behind the scenes x-ray episodes is they need to be more authentic and talk about the challenges of Barney leaving, Covid, etc. I feel like I am getting only the positives, which doesn’t do it justice.
Just finished it and I have, at best, a vague idea of what’s going on. Sucks because I really want to like this show. Lots of stuff just doesn’t make any sense. Like, why did the ship people at the end summon a tidal wave to drown a single little girl?
I noticed this same thing in the first few episodes. Nature has grown over what once was a thriving area.
Not sure if you’ve ever seen this guy - he’s a pretty big fantasy/sci-fi book reviewer on YouTube and notorious huge WoT massive fanboy - pretty good and complete review of season 1, good things and lots of bad things. Thought it was a good review:
Mate that's how TV works. You're not really supposed to know who these people are yet. You'll find out. It was just an introduction. And slightly spoilery but the purpose was to show that this is an invading force and the tidal wave is meant to flood whatever city is there and to flood boats
On episode 6. This has been very good. The rotten tomatoes average fan score is in the low 80s. I'd have to disagree. I was prepared to be disappointed and it has exceeded my expectations.
yeah I found the season to be good. As a non book reader it was highly entertaining. Looking forward to the upcoming seasons
Thats basically the target audience. I think someone up top said they weren't very concerned about the hardcore book readers. Paraphrased.
and it showed. What is depressing is since this shitpile has been made the chances of having a quality show based on the books is probably out the window. Best we can hope for is an animated series which, as a genre, doesn't really excite me.
What’s the general consensus on this show? Don’t wanna read the thread in case spoilers but the Gf and me are lookin for new shows and we both enjoy sci-if/fantasy.
