Sadulaev trapped an arm in a modified fireman's finish, then hooked his other arm. Just beautiful technique, one of the greatest ever to do it
You know that had to kill him inside, losing and having to hear about it for a year when it was ballsy as fuck to even attempt a 20+ pound jump in one year. Pretty sure the Russian coaches wanted him at 92 this year and he was like, nope, I got this.
The Ohio RTC guys really struggled this tournament. Have to wonder if the lack quality depth of the room is impacting some of these guys.
This isn't a homer question rather, are you serious? I honestly don't know and wondering if you are trolling. If so all good. If not all good.
Just seem to be some warning signs. Have to wonder if some of the big names switch RTC's to get back to a world class level
You forgot Joey McKenna blowing it at Final X. Unfortunately it's definitely a trend. I'm sure Myles Martin and Kollin Moore will have it on their minds when they compete at U23s in three weeks.
I forgot about that, but you could add that to the list. It's pretty concerning, i thought they had some good pieces there, but maybe the staff can't focus enough on the RTC as much as they should.
Seems like everyone is on the same page here with regards to Ohio RTC. It's weird how everyone gets along without Stevis
Post World's P4P rankings, in my totally biased, heavily affected by recency bias, opinion: 1. Abdulrashid Sadulaev - In a class of his own, only rivals are historic at this point, both recent(Gatsalov, Mavlet Batirov, pre-2016 Burroughs) and all time. This run he's on is crazy good. 2. David Taylor - Undefeated for the year, took apart my #3, only real losses the last couple years are to J'den Cox who is also good 3. Hassan Yazdanicharati - Only DT has beaten him in the last 3 years 4. Zaurbek Sidakov - Maybe a little high given he's overall career, but man, what a gauntlet he ran, starting at Russian nationals. Wins over Chamizo and Burroughs is impressive 5. Geno Petriashvili - Only Akgul can beat him at 125 right now, also the only guy with a shot at sweeping the quad now. Some love for the big men here 6. Kyle Snyder - Not his best season and the finish will obviously leave a bad taste for him going forward. 7. Kyle Dake - On season alone he'd be right there with DT, just a little shorter on international creds, and, in a non-Olympic weight the field wasn't as deep as 74/86 8. Ahkmed Gadzhimagomedov - Getting bombed on by Dake doesn't take too much away from the year he had 9. Jordan Burroughs - Still got plenty in the tank, one tight loss to Sidakov doesn't really change that 10. Takuto Otoguro - Mostly just because he was the most fun to watch
No idea how Snyder can compete with Sadulaev now that Sadulaev seems every bit as strong as him if not more now. Sucks for him, I blame Tom Ryan
See, I like this game, there's like 15 guys I considered. Guys who didn't win this week, but otherwise clearly have the resume(Rashidov, Aliev, Akgul, Takahasi, Chamizo), or guys that looked great but maybe don't have the overall resume(Uguev, YBR, J'den)
Yes, definitely. He's not really in any top 10, I just couldn't decide and he was my favorite to watch this week.
wow, greco guys went 0-4 today and Jesse Thielke came out and BLASTED the coaches. Said he didn't learn anything or get better and they only did conditioning. He's glad that he's going home so he can actually get better at wrestling. Also said the team spent 24 days in budapest training with their opponents? Yikes.
I mean, our Greco program has never been very good, but it has been disastrously bad the last few years so I'm not surprised this is coming out. Also can't help that the men's freestyle program is in this golden age(seriously, we have won 6 golds since the last Olympics, we won like 3 golds total between the 2000-2012 Olympics)
ASU @ PSU dual to be televised on ESPN2 December 14th, which is nice. Won't be much of a dual but something tells me it will start with 184
FWIW I can't recall Cael not starting at 125 in a very long time for a home dual, regardless of the premier matchups. It will likely start at 125 and go in order. PSU also has vs Lehigh, vs Mich, @OSU on BTN for nationally televised duals.
Still think he'll be at 174, meant they'd finish with 174 and Zahid vs Hall IV. Myles should still be the man at 84
Also Kiyaalp of Turkey lost in his first match. Kiyaalp has won gold two of the last three years and took silver to Mijain Lopez (GOAT hwt GR wrestler) in Rio. And that finalist in 2009 was actually a gold medal winner in former Bellator Bantamweight champion Joe Warren.
Michigan Wrestle Offs: Huge upset: Wil Lewan beat Pantaleo 2-1. They wrestled again and Pantaleo won 4-2. Very impressive win for the former world champ.

Yep. 133 went from pretty weak to strong and top of 141 is tough. 165 has a lot of guys, none that will beat Joseph though when it matters
It's been a weak division for almost 10 years now. Outside of Zain, there hasn't been many really good guys there. Sorensen was good. Houdashelt and Tsirtsis won titles but are kind of underwhelming champions. JO didn't have much competition outside of Chamberlain. Its really been one of the worst weights every year since Dake's freshman year. We're a far cry away from when the weight had Metcalf, Burroughs, Caldwell, Palmer, Schlatter, Bubba Jenkins, Ruschell, O'Connor, and Churella. Weight hasn't been the same since.
33, 41, 65, and 74 are the toughest weights this year. 5th place is a distant 5th. If Gross stays at 133 and Tariq stays, 133 is the toughest imo, but it gets pretty weak if they both move up and Daton goes 125.
Connor Brown just pinned Kyle Akins with an Assassin as Askren was announcing the match. That was pretty cool. Also the match was awesome. Back and forth.
He just took a job with barstool as a blogger. His first article was not well-received. I feel like people will learn to love him though.
NWCA kinda sucked this year. Don't know what happened outside of Gross-Wilson getting called off because Gross is hurt, but they only had 6 men's matches scheduled and two were at 141. Lots of emphasis on women this year which is great, but not as appealing to me personally (at least not as a replacement). And some of the guys? Mitch Finesilver? Jacobe Smith? Huh? This event was matching the top 2 guys at most weights every year. Mitch Finesilver probably is outside my top 10 at 149. Is Jacobe Smith even starting this year with JoJo back? Kinda crazy how far the event has fallen in the last two years. Anyway, no upsets, at least in my mind. 141: Joey McKenna dec Kaid Brock 10-4 149: Matthew Kolodzik dec Mitch Finesilver 11-7 174: Myles Amine md Jacobe Smith 10-2 184: Taylor Venz dec Max Dean 10-5 285: Derek White dec Youssif Hemida SV-1 7-5
Lastly I have the feeling that this will be a MAJOR storyline this year... During the Wisconsin-Buffalo dual it was called 3 times in one match, twice on the buffalo wrestler from top position. You simply CANNOT put your hands in your opponents face below the eyebrow or you're getting docked a point. RIP Myles Martin
2 interesting results from ASU's intrasquad last night: Josh Shields is up at 165 it looks like, with Anthony Valencia probably heading for a redshirt year. Not sure this is the best for Shields, he wasn't a huge 157, but it also allows both Pagdilao and Maruca in the lineup... However, Maruca lost to Jacori Teemer last night as well. Teemer was wrestling 149(again, doesn't look big for that weight). Still think he'd redshirt but that could interesting to watch in a down weight
