Randy Travis and John Anderson are. CR has more of a rock side to them...to me, anyways. Still like them regardless.
I would rather listen to hours of myself farting into a tape recorder than ever hear 10 seconds of a fucking Montgomery Gentry song again in my life. I bet you like Kid Rock and Creed too.
More like I am apathetic and dont care. Since I can remember (early 90's) people have always complained about the new country music. Garth Brooks wasnt country. Then it was Kenny Chesney. Truthfully, I could not care less about guys like Montgomery Gentry. Id rather listen to Jamey Johnson but I cant control the radio. I will, however, turn it off when Rascal Flatts-ish types come on. Point is, I guess the Montgomery Gentry/Luke Bryans of the world are the lesser of two evils on a modern radio station. Spoiler Fortunately I have Sirius in my car Spoiler Fuck you new station lineup
Usually I'm pretty good about not caring about how bad music has gotten. Country just really pisses me off. I can never let it go and will rage any chance I get.
Pretty much sums up my opinion too. People will always complain about whatever the current popular music is. I don't love every song on country radio, but I'd still rather listen to that than Lady Gaga and The Black Eyed Peas.
if given the choice being top 40 Pop radio and top 40 Modern Country radio, I turn the radio off and sing country songs from memory.
reminds me that I need to find this and download. "Bob Wills is Still the King" and Waylon's cover of "Waltz Me to Heaven" are my two favorites from him. I can crush "The Taker"
you need to dl his live album. He plays the songs you mentioned, the house of the rising sun, and me and bobby mcghee.
That was me, love me some Chris LeDoux. . And I was never trying to hop Garth up as the greatest, I know he isn't. I was saying he did have a lot of good country music out there even if it seems most of his best stuff were his slow songs.
Bob Wills is Still the King=GOAT song Eric Church is scaring me. Homeboy is horrible and I hope he hasn't gone that direction completely. Like someone said earlier, I don't know why they would release that first. I can't link youtube right now but Jack Daniels by him sounds pretty decent acoustic imo, anxious to see how it is on the CD. It will be a very sad day if he has sold out and his CD is trash.
All I really listened to in high school was Jerry Jeff and Led Zeppelin. Used to love that asshole. Will still throw on 'Cowboy Boots and Bathing Suits' or 'Leaving Texas' from time to time.
That and Levelland are on my iTunes top 25 most played list. This song is so damn catchy James McMurtry - Levelland
Love Levelland. Also Out Here in the Middle, Lights of Cheyenne, 60 Acres, I'm Not From Here. I don't think I took "Live in Aught Three out of my CD Player in my vehicle for 3 years, no bs.
I like Keen's version better for some reason, little more upbeat regardless, McMurtry is one of the GOATs
They each definitely managed to make the song their own. I heard REK sing Levelland long before I discovered McMurtry, but I tend to always like the songwriter's version better (see: Lefty, Pancho and). He's in Houston on Friday and Denton on Saturday, FYI.
Hell yes.... Love Live in Aught Three. I feel that if McMurtry had come around about ten years earlier he would have been a much bigger hit.
rodeoing today is pulling 100,000 dollar horse trailers with 65,000 dollar f350's. These guys arent exactly roughing it.
Some good country from the "recent" past: Ryan Bingham Justin Townes Earle Hank Williams III Shooter Jennings Hayes Carll American Aquarium Gabriel Kelley Mac Leaphart Early Pat Green
Makes much more sense. However, as Cap said, I think that he might have ruined himself with his album that is about to be released based on his first single from it.
That was me and I agree on Jack Daniels. What will be most disappointing is that he wrote all his stuff to this point and took forever with this CD. I can't believe it could be shit if he is taking this long to put it out. I mean if he was selling out it wouldn't have been 28 months between albums, I don't think. However, one thing that worries me (and I don't appreciate) is the fact that his tour is set up to be very anti-Southeast. I mean he plays in Alabama once in the next 6 months and GA (and in Atlanta at that) once in the next 6 months. He isn't scheduled at all for TN, LA, or MS. I mean really? Of course he can add dates, but he is pretty tightly packed already and one of the great things was the fact he would play small shows through the medium size places in the SE. Plus the times he does seem to have off look to be while he is on the West coast or NE, so it is hard to see him flying back for a couple shows in MS and AL between Sacramento and San Diego shows.
His newest album, The Guitar Song, is one of the best I've heard in a while. Here are a few of the songs. Can't Cash My Checks - Jamey Johnson Lonely At The Top - Jamey Johnson Thankful for the Rain Jamey Johnson The Guitar Song
had a great time at a Hank III show in spartanburg. We need some more Dale Watson fans in this world.
could be oo Damn, he only plays in SC once. I know tours are set up by the record company obviously but with all those locations it points directly to sellout IMO as much as it pains me to say since I used to tout him more than anyone.
