New John Moreland album today. also did not realize he had shaved his head and gone with some intense head tattoos recently
I'm really liking this Moreland so far. Scott Ballew, Sarah Shook, and Waxahatchee are all solid and released in the past week or so, as well. None on Sierra Ferrell level, though. Not sure Waxahatchee belongs in the thread, but they are folksy enough imo.
I still really like Sarah Shook but I'm not sure her music has developed as well as an American Aquarium or Tyler Childers, who I feel have evolved really well with their subject matter. Still good imo, but her newer stuff isn't hitting as hard minus a few songs here and there.
I found the new album really enjoyable as a listen but it flew by and nothing quite grabbed me. Still a lot better than most stuff out there.
Yeah I have rolled through it quite a few times this week and like it. She's still in my upper echelon, but not sure the album has the staying power that the Carlisle, Shane Smith, Ferrell, and now Moreland releases of the year have for me. It will probably grow on me, though.
i think MJ Lenderman the guy who appears on Right Back To It has some good music. not really country but TV Dinners and Knockin are good.
Will definitely check him out. My not really country stuff lately has been groups like Waxahatchee, Last Dinner Party, Wednesday, and Florry.
It's good. Good old school country. Songwriting is pedestrian, but could evolve. For now, it's just foot tappin music
Holy shit at the amount of people here. I was expecting less than 50 people here. Gonna be over 10 easily
I saw Charles Wesley Godwin Friday night in Charleston. He puts on a good show. He seems to have attracted a different fan base than when I saw him a few years ago. Lots of young, squatted truck type bros in the crowd making me feel old. Assuming this is from his Zach Bryan touring.
If I'm not mistaken, he's been a little more vocal recently with his political takes and they align pretty closely with the squatted truck bros.
The last 3 new singles (all very good) have been produced by Clint Wells, which hopefully means she's moving away from working with Sadler Vaden on this next album.
Yeah. Unlike Wade's last album, which is absolutely terrible, the Farley one isn't bad. It just feels like he's trying to make him a poor man's Isbell when his own sound is great as is.
There's a cover band who tours around Chicago playing the hits of the day and they have a fairly giant following. Tonight they covered Zach Bryan and the crowd immediately died and didn't know wtf they were playing. It might not be completely over yet.
Fell down a rabbit hole into Tanner Usrey. Can’t quite place my finger on it but absolutely love his sound. Edit: EdmondDantes apparently beat me to it
Sadler is a fantastic guitarist but as a producer he needs to take a fucking chill pill and do way less. A huge reason for Morgan Wade's popularity is her rough edges and there's a big difference between fleshing that sound out with keys, pedal steel and violin as in these last 3 singles and glossing over it entirely with synth and drum tracks. Psychopath was such a mess, consider me happy if I never hear another Sadler Vaden album.
Beautiful Lies is a banger of a song. I think I tried diving deeper but didn't get too far before bailing. Maybe I'll have to revisit.
Maybe just maybe Morgan Wade's Management/Record Label wanted something more poppy and appealing to the masses to sell more records
Nothing about her screams mainstream country. It was a terrible pivot if that’s what they were trying to do.
