They still have a pencil vending machine at my son’s junior high that sells these.

 

My brother and I would play “pencil football” with these, which consisted of little more than creating a crude tournament bracket, each of us throwing a pencil in the yard, and the furthest pencil advancing. Championship was then decided with a pencil fight. Simpler times I tell ya what.
