I assumed he was talking about the Rangers closer, cause he suuuuuuuuucks. Even the Royals could score on him.
No worries. I'm only aware of him because of the mental anguish he causes my lady on a regular basis.
When saying dyson in the royals tread everyone think you mean jrod dyson of dats what speed do fame not Sam meatball dyson of giving up homeruns fame.
they're calling up jorge bonifacio today and probably strahm too. mondesi/orlando probs getting sent to AAA but that hasn't been confirmed yet
Was just coming in to discuss whose wife Bonifacio must have banged for them to never give him a chance at the big league level. All he's done is hit at just about every level he's been at while also being relatively young for each level. I'm trying to figure out how Orlando hit .300 last year over 450 PA's... turns out he was tied for 2nd in the majors in BABIP so a good amount of luck was going his way.
Paulo is hot garbage on defense too. I got the logic behind it, but I really wasn't a fan of the Dyson trade. This team, of all teams in the league, could have used a good 4th OF. Rotate Gordo, Cain and Soler at DH to save their legs, and Dyson would play at least 4 days a week plus be a weapon off the bench. It was clear as day that Orlando was not a good ballplayer. Hopefully Karns can become a consistent starter.
In other Royals news... I am shocked Royals pitching prospect Kyle Zimmer was lifted from an appearance at Triple-A Omaha on Thursday due to right shoulder soreness. Zimmer has dealt with shoulder issues for a few years and had thoracic outlet surgery last summer. The Royals are calling his removal from the game precautionary, but it's certainly not an encouraging development.
Yes. But their strategy with him is to "push" him in his development, so Omaha it is. Plus, it's already probably got to be demoralizing to get demoted from the bigs just 3 weeks into the season. And if you believe in such a thing, bypassing AAA to send him to NW Arkansas would be an even bigger dick punch.
Just looked at their roster. Woof. http://www.milb.com/roster/index.jsp?sid=t541 I took in my first Chasers game last year, and that roster sucked. This one is worse. And Soler is starting rehab, so who is gonna be the odd man out in the OF now? Former top-5 pick Bubba?
BUbba STarling. The writing was on the wall. I remember being very skeptical of him because his swing was so ugly and his competition was easy. This will go down as one of the worst picks in Royals history, made worse by the fact that this is one of the best draft classes in MLB history (1st round hit-rate wise). No sense in looking at who went ahead of him, but lets look at some notables who went after him: 6. Anthony Rendon 7. Archie Bradley 8. Francisco Lindor 9. Javier Baez 11. George Springer 13. Brandon Nimmo 14. Jose Fernandez 17. C.J. Cron 18. Sonny Gray 20. Tyler Anderson 25. Joe Ross 29. Joe Panik 40. Jackie Bradley Jr. 44. Michael Fulmer 45. Trevor Story
You could go and nit pick every team's draft from every year. We, along with all the league, passed on Pujols like 12 times.
IIRC, the narrative from that draft was the Royals liked 4 pitchers all over Bubba. And wouldn't you know it, all 4 of them went 1-4. Bubba was the consensus next best player available. Between that and the local angle, they almost had to take him. This was well before the Royals had experienced any success too, so I can imagine the backlash they would have received had they not taken the local kid would have had more people clamoring for Dayton and Ned to get the next bus out of town. And knowing how thin-skinned they can be, I'd be shocked if that didn't play a part. I was also skeptical, based on his competition alone... from what I remember, he didn't even play in any wood bat summer leagues. My initial hope was he would get sick of baseball in 2 years and pull a Weeden and go play QB right down the road in Lawrence.
Well, yeah, I'm not trying to point out a Pujols/Tom Brady thing where those guys weren't really on anyone's radar as top picks. I'm just pointing out all the great players that went within the same range/round as him and that it doesn't help that most of those guys are solid regulars or stars.
Which had to put some pressure on the front office to draft Starling. Don't let another local kid go be a stud somewhere else.
Wasn't he all about the corn? 'Course, he mighta changed his mind and/or Nubb might not have still wanted him.
Yeah, he was committed to Corn, but who knows if they would have wanted him 2-3 years after the fact. Especially after Pelini was ran out of town. Wishful thinking more than anything. There was the occasional homeboard post about how he did like KU and would be open to it if baseball didn't work out. But, you know, homeboard. Plus the hot garbage that has been KU football in the Weis era. After Crist and Heaps failed miserably, why would he go play there vs. Mizzou or KSU?
Weis would say just ask his buddy Tommy what some good ol' decided schematic advantage could do for him.
Bonifacio in lining out looked better at the plate than 99% of Mondesi's at bats. Good eye up there, strong contact.
