I run in whatever shorts I have clean. Usually basketball type shorts. For races I have a pair of Asics shorts and drifit shirt. Did 4.2 in 34 this morning. First mile killed my legs. I was trying to knock 21 seconds of my usual mile pace and run in under 8 per. I was kinda sluggish after that but that first mile felt great.
One Strava nitpick. I wish it either counted a week as Su-Sa or allowed for customization, rather than M-Su. It makes sense keeping the weekend days back to back for training purposes, but I shoot for a minimum miles per week, and personally start counting them on Sunday. That's normally a rest day for me anyway, but this week I ran on Sunday and looking at my week's total, I didn't like not seeing those miles counted. Small nit, and a personal preference. I'll just have to do math. Yuck.
Oh, and humidity can go fuck a maggot-ridden dead hippopotamus. Even good runs feel like crap right now. I'm ready for fall and enjoying myself again.
I've heard those are awesome. Another nit pick... I wish you could set a single run distance like you can in the Nike app. Grinds my gears.
It's coming soon. We'll be wishing it were spring again soon, so be csreful what you wishh for. But the humidity has been terrible. Our respective halfs should be comparably easy.
No humidity all year is pretty amazing I'm running an 8K at 8,000 feet Saturday morning. Pretty exciting
Ran 7 miles at 7:09 About 25 seconds faster than last week and 15 degrees cooler. Weather matters themoreyouknow
Did the hike again today but didn't hike alongside my lady, rather I spotted her eight minutes and tried to chase her down. Shaved 1:15 off my previous best time up the mountain. Caught with about a thirty seconds left to the finish line. Feeling damn good about my fitness level.
You are right about the weather, it's crazy how much faster you can run. I think mid to low 50s is the ideal temp to run in.
14.35 miles total. 10mi @ 9:04 pace then the last 4.35mi @ 8:21 "race" pace. Race pace was supposed to be 8:00 but I'm pretty happy with that run.
Have a couple pair of these. Love them http://www.fit2run.com/shorts/under-armour/under-armour-mens-7-woven-running-shorts-steel/126253 Under Armour Men's Woven Launch Printed 7" Short Probably going to buy a 5" length next time though.
Ran a PR 10k last night at a 6:53 pace. These weekly interval workouts have been amazing. Cant stress them enough. I went from running a 10k in 8:30 6 weeks ago to my PR last night.
I usually hate when this comes up but I am wondering how tall and how much you guys weigh. I am not a little guy so I need to know how you guys (if you're my size) are running such fast times. I am slightly under 6'1" and about 180 and I don't know if I can get my mile under 8 per.
6-2, bounce between 175 and 190, about 184 now after lunch I run about twice a week, and I lift the other 5. For me, the difference between running 8s vs 7s is all about mixing it up and nothing to do with how much I run. I do a sprint workout every couple weeks on a treadmill on elevation. The only thing that would make this better would be carrying weight but I'm not a tool so I don't wear a military load barring vest at the gym. I also swim from time to time. I'm pretty strong from working out, but swimming really isolates my breathing and helps a lot. I'm bad at controlled breathing. Jogging while hiking up hills with some weight on your back is an awesome workout too. I run anything from 3 to 10 miles. If I'm running 3 miles, it will have elevation or I'll do a burnout of situps and pushups before I run to challenge my body and breathing. If I'm running 10 miles, I stay away from my legs for at least 48 hours before I go and eat a ton of carbs the day of. Running every day doesn't work for me when it comes to increasing pace. Lifting and never doing the same workout help me the most.
My last workout on Tuesday was: 1 Mile warm up 3x800 at 5k pace 8x400 at 90 seconds per 6x200 at 35 second per. Jogged a slow lap in between the 800s, took a standing 90-second rest between the first 5 400s and then for the last 3 jogged a lap for rest in between. I am trying to work myself up to the point where all my rest is a slow jog but I am not there yet. When I first started I only did 2x800 and 4x400. You get better pretty quick when you first start.
My Hoka One One Cliftons just arrived. Really hope they help with leg & joint fatigue... Allowing for fewer rest days. #gettingoldsucks
Just under 6' & 190-195lbs. I'm fat-fast though... Would probably drop 10-15 lbs immediately, if I cut back on foodie & drinking ways. Fuck that though
What is this "just under" nonsense... you're 6' and 5'11. I'm just under 5'11' and 165lbs. A year ago I was about 200 lbs.
I have never been natural long distance guy due to being pretty short and stocky. Sticking with this schedule below has worked great. I think the long run, tempo run and speed work are the most important Monday: Off or short recovery Tuesday: Interval track speed Wednesday: Easy mid range run Thursday: Tempo mid range run Friday: Easy run longer than mid, but not long.day Saturday:Easy short run Sunday long run:
I am 6' 3/4" so closer to 6'1" than 6 feet but not 6'1" that's why I said just under. I feel fat and slow now that I asked.
I'm jealous. May have to start incorporating some interval training myself, though it brings back nightmares from high school (hated interval days). Not going to start now 5 weeks out from my marathon, but afterward I'll definitely consider it. 5'10" 170-175
Only been running for 20 to 30 minutes on the treadmill before i lift every workout forawhile. Current amazon playlist kanye west the good life comes on right around the 18 minute mark: Instantly increase the speed on the treadmill
Did some sprint intervals on Tuesday and hips and calves were sore as shit for 2 days. thinking about doing that once or twice every 2 weeks or so. See how that goes.
I've been really bad about running since I moved to Miami. it's so fucking hot and humid and I haven't really found safe place to run after work but I'm getting out there today at least
7.1 in 59:37 but in mile two I dropped my phone and had to walk back to look for it. Fortunately, no one was on the running path so I found it quickly. It just added about 1:30 to my time. My miles are staying around the 8:10 per pace.
Just ordered some new brooks glycirene for my bday. Local running store had buy one pair, get a second pair half price so wife picked her up a pair for after the baby gets here. Looking forward to them getting in to start breaking in the new shoes. Tried several different brands but brooks still fit me the best. Amazes me how many people don't go to store to see what shoe works best for them.
So, after 8 miles in the Hokas, I would highly recommend... Especially to any of the heavier runners. Leg & muscle fatigue is way less than normal & the shoes were more responsive than I expected Doubt I race in them, but will wear them out on distance & tempo days
9 miles at 11:50 per. Late start since it was raining early, which sucks. It was nice at the start, but muggy and warm once the sun came out.
ranger panties, full stop urban bourbon? my woman is running that one. I'll be there we should meet up for a glass
