Was very excited to play Victoria National tomorrow..... my buddy called and said they are closed for aerification. Now in a mad scramble to find a replacement equivalent course on 1 day notice. Looking at Valhalla.
I started with a Nike putter and my putting was terrible. I've only had my Scotty for four years so sample size is still too small there
That's the one company that would actually surprise me if he had a club in his bag from. Not because none of their clubs are worthy....just because that has been "Phil's company" forever. Just would strike me as odd. I'll throw some guesses out there for fun and see if they come through. Next time he tee's it up in an actual tourney I'll guess.... Driver - Cobra Irons - Miura Wedges - Titleist Vokey's Putter - Scotty
You mean right away or eventually, later on he'll sign with them? IMO I don't think he'll limit himself to one company because of endorsements at the beginning. He eventually might but I don't think within next month. JMO.
By the time the California swing rolls around. I could see him playing these next three tournaments he just announced with different clubs just to see what he likes better in a tournament setting. I think he'll settle on Titleist because that's what he played before Nike or PXG because they are new and are likely looking for a big star to endorse.
I think this guess is spot on honestly. He always loved his old Cobra driver. May not translate to the new drivers and woods but we'll see. He may stick to Nike there because he's anal about having drivers custom built specifically for him (non adjustable, glued hosel but with all the other new tech) so I'm not sure other companies will be able to do that before he signs. Miura irons is the strong, strong rumor.
I could absolutely see him not signing an exclusive deal with any one manufacturer again. He obviously has more money than he or his kids could spend in a lifetime so he doesn't need the cash. Also, he could be the rare PGA golfer who just played with what fit him best regardless of make/model if he wasn't tied down.
I also think that money paid to players for equipment deals is going to drop dramatically in the next few years. Nike was spending crazy money so Taylor Made followed suit. Nike is out of the business and Taylor Made is being sold.
Tiger wouldn't be able to be with PXG I don't think. The amount of shit he would take for supporting/partnering with a company whose clubs are priced out of most people's means would be another PR nightmare he wouldn't want. Golf is already battling the elitism stuff. Tiger has to play by a different set of rules than everyone else when it comes to that stuff.
Ha....wouldn't it be something if he came out with a set of Wilson Staff irons in his first couple rounds. They would immediately be sold out everywhere.
Completely didn't get what I expected out of the golf trip today, but I got to play Golf Club of Tennessee which was in excellent condition and very enjoyable.
Some of the most fun I've ever had out on a golf course were on Pete Dye tracks, so I can't hate him too much. He just does some little things that turn a brilliant golf course into a carnival sometimes. Kiawah was one where he stayed away from that, and it's easily my favorite Dye course.
I'm sure it is. The railroad ties in play next to the 6th green just make a fantastic hole a bit of a mess.
Stupid ass Golf Channel. Everyone that works there is completely useless. Everyone! Edit: Except for Lauren Thompson
Now that football season has started, my number of rounds per week will take a nose dive. I do have a tee time for tomorrow morning though.
FWIW, the vast majority of golf analysts/writers on Twitter that I follow are guessing the 3 announced today will be Holmes, Kuchar, and Rickie.
Just announced JDay is going to be wearing Nike. Will still swing TaylorMade clubs but this news may very well mean that TaylorMade may be sold sooner rather than later.
Yeah I'm fairly indifferent about it. He's definitely earned it more than Smiley or Finau though. wtf?
Glad you liked it. It's easily my favorite course in the area after Rees Jones fucked up Belle Meade in '04. It definitely does not feel like you are 25 minutes from downtown Nashville
