I feel like there’s not that many people in the middle ground where the can comfortably throw away 250k on a used hypercar but can’t comfortably throw away 500k for a new one

Not to scare you off or anything but I did this with an out of state Toyota 4Runner once that didn't go well. Auto shop had tons of great reviews but I highly doubt anyone actually looked the car over. Thing was eaten the fuck up with rust, within the first 6 months parts were falling off, no shot they wouldn't have seen any of this. I've also done this with other cars and had good success though, but this one time scared me off from ever doing it again.

Yeah, does it involve a legally binding document? If not, meh. Unless you're ready to pay.

The PPI on my MB wagon from a (reputable) shop in town was expensive, basically said, good, they're being honest about the car. They didn't mention a few big issues that have cost me a few grand over the years. I'm not even sure they put it on a Xentry scan.

The one done by the Saab-specific shop in town was half the price, itemized clearly, and diagnosed a vacuum leak (that was causing weird issues that I couldn't figure out) and a couple other minor issues. Seller paid for about $500 of repairs. Car has been solid for years.

If you're in Birmingham and have a Japanese or Swedish car, go to Element Garage. Don't go to Mackin's.

So we have a price agreed upon, $1,000 off listing so like $4,000 off KBB, good deal. Paying cash.

But, I have about 53.7% confidence the deal actually comes to fruition. The salesman is an early-20s kid that doesn't seem to be solution-orientated.

Granted, it's a confusing situation -- I'm in Mexico, won't be picking the vehicle up until May, and don't have an address to send title documents to. He has to ship it to a local FedEx about 45 minutes away, then I'll go sign and return. He claims that this can't be done online (not even with an online notary), and claims we can't do it when I get back. I even offered to pay like 75% for them to hold the vehicle and will pay the remainder when I get there. Takes like a full day to respond, he's absolutely bamboozled by this process.

Bruh I'm trying everything I can to wire $30K to you and buy a vehicle. Help me help you.

Well it does look like it's done. I paid a $5,000 deposit, they're sending the documents to a FedEx in Puerto Escondido, I'll sign them and return, then when they receive the signed docs I'll wire the rest of the money.

Won't be relieved until I'm in Bend, OR with keys in hand, though.

What should I do with my old car? KBB won't even give me a value for it since it's in such poor condition. I'd say maybe someone would pay $1k for it.

Donate it? Ya'll ever do that?

Extra $1k would be nice to have in pocket but man I really don't want to sell all those problems to someone

It runs and normally gets me from point a to point b. Cold A/C. All the lights work.

fuel gauge doesn't work, so I use the trip meter to tell me when I'm getting close to 200 miles so I can fill up.
probably needs a new radiator, little bit of a coolant leak.
transmission is wonky with going into reverse but it still works.
one tire has a slow leak so needs to be filled about once a week.
trunk leaks water so I have a couple holes drilled into it to let the water run out.
    interior cosmetic issues of course.

Probably an elementary question, but I haven't bought a car in like a decade.

Car dealership sent all documents to me in Mexico, I signed and returned. Like a true red-blooded American lawyer, I didn't read everything I signed.

They're asking me to wire the final amount to them and it's almost $4,000 more than the agreed upon price. When I raised this issue, they told me this now includes the WA sales tax. I can either (a) pay the tax through them, and the tax payment attaches to the VIN, so that when I go to register my car in WA it will show the tax was already paid; or (b) I can pay when I register the car in WA, but this will require them to re-send everything back to Mexico.

I've been kind of annoyed with them because I hate buying cars and the kid has been kind of a punk (even though my situation is pretty difficult, granted), but just don't want to get screwed.

And ceramic coating, interior protection package, glass package. Had one today show me the same thing. Said I’m not paying the $1000 worth of stuff between the lines. He said we put it on there as soon as it comes off the truck. Oh well, I didn’t ask for it and not in any info until now so you can sell it to someone else.

If you order it isn’t hard to keep all of that off. Vehicle I just got last week I told them I wanted nothing done to it including the dealership sticker on the back. Had zero issues and they left off the sticker. I’m taking it to a good shop next week for ppf and ceramic. Always order when buying new. They no longer have the insane wait times. Took less than two months for this one.

Oh, I would order, as I did with my wife’s last car. This on lot was my exact order though, and none of that was listed on the listing, so when he sent the sale contract, I was like nope. He said it’d already been done. Well, it’s not part of the listed price, and I didn’t ask for it so you can figure it out, or sell it to someone else.

Anyone with rear seat captain's chairs have any thoughts for/against them? I want them, but I'm wondering how my 70lb dog would handle them if she were to want to lay down and take a nap. Presumably I could put something to bridge the gap between chairs.

Also, are captain's chairs a PITA for car seats? I could see captain's chairs being a headache at times, but what do I know I don't have a kid.
