my mom's lab always takes on of her shoes to her spot (she never chews on the shoes) whenever my mom leaves her at the house and goes somewhere
My dogs do that with clothes. One sleeps on my bed all day, and he picks up shirts or something to sleep on. The other dog stashes them in her crate. The dog that likes the crate has been taking food out of my parent's cupboards and hiding it in her blankets. My dad found a box of cereal stashed away that she hadn't eaten, and a small container of cat food.
My dog has lately taken to try to hide my shoes and also trying to put her mouth on the laces when I try to put them on so I can't leave in the mornings
My 10 year old daughter's teacher runs a pug rescue. Once a month her school has a fund raiser with food trucks he brought two to it last Wednesday one was missing an eye. dump can my pup go out after the 4 set but before his rabies?
My two dogs have always had an odd thing with rawhides and Himalayan chew toys where they just kind of hide them from each other. Today while sitting on the couch, my Husky decided to hide one next to me. Before he was even done hiding it in the cushion, my little lab mix jumped up and tried to take it. The two of them are best of friends and play all the time, but I told her no and held her away from the Husky. She responded by showing her teeth to the Husky I again told her No and then she snapped towards the Husky and gave him a little nip at his nose. My Husky is the most calm laid back dog ever and didn't do anything back but I screamed No at the lab and gave her a hard tap on her nose and my wife came in and removed her from the room. Anyone have any tips to try and stop this type of aggression before it becomes anything more?
Around a year/ 1.5 years my guy started to get a little possessive over balls at the park. It took a while for him to get it, but I basically made him give up the ball to any dog that showed interest in it. I took it out of his mouth, made him back up a few feet and let the other dog pick up the ball. I didnt physically hold him back, I just got between him and the ball and made sure he wouldn't go for it. Some times he did and I had to grab him. Eventually he started to get it. Read somewhere that you make them back away from the ball/object rather than taking it from them and giving it to the other dog. It was a process, but worked eventually.
Wish I could grab Butterscotch and change his name, but I'm in Indiana and probably already have too many animals.
Need some help/advice. Recently my Lab mix (male, almost 3 years old) developed a fear of men. He's the nicest, sweetest dog in the world but is now afraid of men that he doesn't know. If he's been around them before, it's no problem. But it has happened 3 times recently, with the worst occurring this morning when I dropped him off at day camp. He's never once been upset about day camp, he loves it and goes nuts whenever we go. Usually there are women at the reception but today there was a man. He wouldn't go near the man. When the man held out a treat for him he reluctantly went and got it but then peed himself anytime the man got near. I've tried to google some causes of this but can't really pinpoint anything. He was very well socialized with tons of people, male and female, when he was a pup and has never displayed this kind of behavior. He is a shelter dog but he was less than a month old when he was found so he didn't have any issues/fears when we got him. We moved to a new house 2 months ago and that's when we first noticed it happening. But that wouldn't explain when he did it at day camp. If anyone has any thoughts/advice it would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to hijack the thread or anything so if you'd like to send me a PM it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I'm told now that we think there's Aussie in there too, i'll post pics when I get the individual ones but two or three have beagle faces/heads so its apparent there's a lot going on in this litter.
So today was the 4 year anniversary of me getting my first dog. They've been at my parents since the beginning of June since I can't have them in staff housing at work. Went to visit for the weekend to see totality of the eclipse (complete bust). They were fucking amped when I walked in the door, the Yellow dog wouldn't let me sit down for about an hour without him getting in my lap and washing my face. Today I left, they'll be there for another month before we go back home in October. When I left, the black dog gets crated. As soon as I crated her, the yellow dog must have realized I was leaving and put his head and tail down. He wouldn't look at me. I called him over so he came and laid down on my feet and stared at the wall. Put my hand by his face to pet him and he growled. Hits me right in the feels.
Don't recall if I posted this one yet, this is Floyd, he's coming from GA this wekeend, was rescued as part of a hoarding case up there. For you Rottie lovers out there.
Yesterday was Kaiser's [made up] birthday. He was featured in his rescue's calendar, so we just chose that date arbitrarily to celebrate it.
Teddy scared the shit out of me on Friday, come home from work and he doesn't come running. Go looking for him, find him in the bathroom, find him tangled in our laundry sorter. We have one of those fabric laundry baskets where it's two bins, they can fold up to nothing, and what gives it its' shape is wire running around the whole perimeter. Somehow he got tangled up in it, and as near as i can tell, twisted himself up in it trying to escape. He had steel wire wrapped around one of his legs, I had to use tin snips to cut it off of him, it was a fucking nightmare. You could tell he tried to chew his way out, there was blood on the fabric, a little bit of blood spattered on the door, and he lost at least one tooth with another one really loose in his mouth now. Once I finally got him free, he wouldn't put any weight on it. Took him to Banfield, they said he was ok and wasn't showing any distress. He is totally fine now, i probably could have skipped the trip to Banfield, but not knowing how long he had been like that, i was worried about circulation, maybe being broken, etc. Scary as fuck.
ran into the grocery store to grab lunch with paige with me. cracked the windows and locked the doors since it was mid 60's and cloudy. come back 2 mins later and realized i locked the keys in the car. felt super awful for her while i waited 45 mins for aaa to unlock it for me. she didn't overheat or anything and i could get my hand enough inside to pet her while we waited but it still made me feel like a complete asshole. she's napping soundly on the couch now
My male pup is more mine tnan anyone in the house. He literally follows me throughout the house wherever I go. I was grilling last night so he'd go in out to the patio with me he'd lay down and start to sleep. As soon as I walked to the kitchen to grab something he'd go in there and try and fall asleep and so on. I can't imagine leaving a being that loves me that much out to die. Other than my family my two pups would be the first "things" I'd grab in that situation.
My wife and I have gone over emergency scenarios of how to get the baby (first, obviously) and then the two dogs out of the house. Nothing I would consider saving that remotely comes close to them
Yeah, I can't even get up to take a piss without Connor coming into the bathroom with me. I wouldn't even have to save them. They'd be right on my heels getting out of any situation
Important documents are kept in a specific location that we can grab right away but those are 3rd. Everything else can be replaced.

Would love to throw a TMB beatdown on that guy. Kudos to the photog for rescuing him. On a side note, there are apparently lots of rescue groups that are going to Texas, picking up dogs from shelters and taking them back to their home state to adopt them out. While I admire the effort, they need to be waiting a bit where possible for people to have a chance to get their lives together and go back to look for the animals. Can't imagine losing everything and then finding out your pet was "rescued" and sent halfway across the country with a new family.
See above posts about not taking pets. I get extenuating circumstances, but those are not going to be the norm.
Discovered a pea sized lump on Dierks chest about a month ago. It bleeds thick blood when expressed. Has gone done in size since. Had a biopsy done twice now. Most recent one showed inflammation and old R&W blood cells as well as mast cells. Going to get him on a short dose of steroids and check again once the inflammation is done for the possibility of a mast tumor. Vet said unusual lump so it could be either, though more leaning towards just inflammed. 4 years old. Fingers crossed, boys.
I'm not saying your wrong, and you all know how I feel about people who abandon their dogs, abuse them, etc. I believe a lot probably were abandoned, but i'm willing to bet a good portion are legit runaway/lost situations. Imagine people are evacuating, guy carrying the dog or whatever, trips and falls on the shit in the water and the dog gets washed away with the water. Does that guy deserve to lose his dog? Or the dogs that are getting freaked out because of the weather and just bolt, why does that family deserve to lose their dog? I'm fine with rescue groups taking them somewhere safe, fostering them and trying to find owners, and maybe that's what they are doing, at least checking to see if they are chipped. But least give it a couple weeks, see if they can find the owners and then move on. Don't just adopt them out without checking, which if there are adoptions happening this quick, is exactly what is happening.
