Found this podcast thanks to this thread. The one on James Scott (The fighter inside) was really good.
The Christmas CBB is always such a beautiful and amazing disaster easily my favorite shows of the year.
Got another long drive coming up this weekend. Can anyone recommend another Serial-style podcast in the vein of Serial, Dirty John, Up and Vanished, S-Town? Doesn't have to be true-crime based, those are just the ones I've listened to. I have my weekly podcasts I listen to pretty frequently, but I find the longer "chaptered" ones that tell a single long story to be more entertaining for extended drives. Listening to a bunch of weekly ones in a row on different topics can get old.
Startup by Gimlet has several seasons where they follow companies for 10 or so episodes. Season 1 is good, as it focuses on the founder starting Gimlet Media.
There are also a couple multi-episode stories on Reply All. The one with Paul Modrowski and the one where he goes to India to confront the scammers. Startup Season 1 is money.
AJC's podcast called "Breakdown" and Canadian podcast "Someone Knows Something" fit what you're looking for. I'd also recommend something like "Lime Town" and "Black Tapes", if you want fictional Serial. Another fictional one that was similar to something like the movie "Her" that I reallllllly enjoyed is called "Life.After".
Listen to "Crimetown" and also "Mogul." Both just wrapped up their first seasons and were amazing. Unfortunately, the guy who narrates Mogul just died so I guess season 2 isn't happening.
Sword and scale. There’s over 100 episodes and each episode is something different. It’s nice to scroll through and listen to the ones that interest you
I don't why I never got into CBB but I finally did and listening to old episodes is fucking killing me.
Yea it’s far and away my favorite podcast it’s constantly amazing. I saw the show live when they went on tour a couple years ago and it was so great. They actually discussed the show I was at on the best of this years.
No. The big things I have heard so far that killed me are kid detectives, ghost tour, the chief and the new Christmas episode.
Anything Don Dimello is pure gold. Anyone know why PFT stopped doing John C Reilly? It’s his best impersonation
Listening to “Atlanta Monster” on my drive tomorrow morning. Very excited. https://inews.co.uk/culture/radio/podcast-atlanta-monster/
Welp... deep dove into this the last 3-4 days. Absolutely ridiculous. When Daly was having to be 5-6 characters during the good vs. evil I was dying.
New Comedy Bang Bang has Patton Oswald and Andy Daly playing Dalton Wilcox. Sadly, I had my hopes up for Don Dimelo, but it was not to be.
The 2 men, 1 hammer episode fucked me up for a minute. I feel like he got lazy after a while though. It started becoming all trial / interrogation recordings and interviews and not enough narrative.
Yeah. I feel like the first few seasons were awesome but it started shifting to too much recording and not enough narrative. Not sure if that’s still happening or not though.
Have you listened to that 2 men one hammer episode? Fucking terrifying. http://swordandscale.com/sword-and-scale-episode-33/
While I like S&S Podcast because of the stories and development of episodes. Mike Boudet is a massive douchebag
So I started listening to the Ryen Russillo pod. The first two episodes have been good (SVP is on E1 & Sir Charles is on E2). I didn't realize Ryen & Skip Bayless had so much beef. Apparently Ryen was banned from being on First Take during the time Bayless was at ESPN.
The first 60ish episodes of S&S are great but after that it does seem like he relies too heavily on non-original trial recordings/news clips/interviews to fill the full hour. Mike for sure sniffed his own farts like a million times too many. Held a fan meetup in Atlanta in December of 2016 and unlike a lot of other podcasts' live events, this function existed solely for him to hear how much people liked his stuff and have drinks bought for him. The fans got nothing out of it.
If he did a live show (I haven't heard any live episodes), it wasn't this event. This was solely a meet-and-greet. I don't think he ever really addressed the room (had to be 100+ people there), he just sat at a table waiting for people to come up to him in awe, talk about how big of fans they were, and offer to buy him food and drinks. At one point he stood in front of a S&S banner for photo opportunities. Not sure he could pull off a live episode honestly.
