snake guys, what is going on with the rattler not rattling and keeping his head on the ground only biting back towards the end? Already injured before filming started?
recently moved to FL and there are so many lizards in my yard. it's awesome. Owsley what is the best resource to help me learn to id?
The Mediterranean geckos are the coolest. I have so many pics of them. Look around your lights in the evenings and
They are everywhere over here. They constantly get in when I open the door late at night and they're hiding in the door jam. Sometimes I'll have the blinds up and my dog will see one on the outside of the window and want to play with it.
Saw one of these a few weeks back that was so big I thought it was a walking stick bug at first. Used to seeing the smaller ones.
"What we have here is a magnificent specimen of pure Alabama black snake, but it ain't too goddamned beau coup."
Got me a few times. Freaked my coworker the fuck out . Calmed down almost immediately once in hand, though.
All cool and all but have you found like 20 dekays? Lol Wish I would find something cool like a racer
Owsley This guy poked his head out from under our front porch about 30 minutes ago. Hoping there's not a nest in our crawl space, exterminator is coming Monday.
So let’s talk I am pretty good at finding dekays, flip over rocks and logs but how do I find other snakes?
You honestly have to be out there more than anything. Visit state parks, state forests, etc. that give you an opportunity to search proper habitat. Consult google earth. Drive around late in the evening or early in the morning, preferably before/after a storm. Know what to look for and take your time looking.
Can anyone help identify? It hangs out at night on my back porch. Just wanted to make sure it’s not a recluse.
Not a recluse. Unless the perspective is all fucky, looks way to fat to be one. Recluse are like the size of a coin.
Still, the abdomen looks too big, so do the legs. Not 100% but I'm pretty sure recluse don't really build webs like that in the open.
These are all good points. Brown recluse gets its name from not wanting to be in the open. Also very thin abdomen with a “violin” shadow on the top of its cephalothorax. Very Skinny and long legged spider.
Apparently we have rubber boas around here in the cold a rainy NW. Never heard of this snake until today. Not sure I'm comfortable ever leaving the house again. https://katu.com/news/local/rubber-boa-snake-spotted-by-hikers-on-popular-hiking-trail
Didn’t realize they were that rare. My buddy sent me a video of his 4 year old daughter picking one up a couple weeks ago.
