There was a time you posted a few weeks ago where I noticed your avatar and got to thinking that that dog had to be 11-12 years old. I don't really have a point but it made me feel old. Sorry for your loss dbl.
It all good. I have Groot and Flash now and I hope I am able to give them as good of a life as you obviously gave Bear. I hope I am blessed to have them as long or close to as you did with bear.
I remember when you got him back in the early days of this community. It was pretty clear he was very loved and you gave him a very happy life. Sorry to hear about his passing!
RIP buddy. Sorry for you and your fam, dbl. Not to hikack but I’m losing a pet today as well. Spoiler: Cat Never wanted any part of getting a cat but the wife did it anyway. After a few weeks she was kind of over it and Feeny and I became best buds. We bonded at night when the dog would go to bed early with the wife and I’d be up late on the couch. Helped him through some surgeries, etc. He didn’t do well after the baby came home this spring and he lost his attention schedule. He started taking it out in bites and swipes on us. Recently started on the baby’s feet and hands and it was time. We found him a new home. It sucks really bad but it’s best for us and for him to be in a home where he’s back to #1. Leave in a half hour to meet up and hand him off. It’s through a rescue/foster so I doubt we’ll be able to see him again.
Went and got daughter, went about as expected. We moved his food tub to the garage so when she came in saying B, B, B and went for his food it wasn't there. We told her he had to go bye bye. I guess she didn't believe us bc she went to the couch where he would always lay. He wasnt there and she looked up puzzled saying B, B, B. I picked her up and cried like a baby. She just laid her head on my shoulder and let me cry. I've cried so much today that my eyes hurt when I wipe them.
Dammit, really sorry dude, easy to see how much you cared for him and what a great life you gave him.

Ugh daughter went to our bedroom and was knocking on the door saying "Bubba, Bubba, Bubba." I let her in and she got on the bed and was just puzzled. We tried to explain he went bye bye but she doesn't understand. She just wants her Bubba. Me too sweetie, me too.

Damnit Dbl I’m so sorry. You gave him an awesome life. I’m so glad I got to meet him and cuddle with him as we slept on the floor of a Baton Rouge hotel room under a Gillig flag. Looks like my dog is gonna be sleeping with me tonight.

I read a thought like this recently, forgive me if it comes out wrong. I think losing a pet hits men especially hard. There still exists some outdated thought that men are tough, and can't cry, and shouldn't show affection. Along with that, in general men dont recieve much affection. Its strange for a man to recieve a compliment. That's changing, but it's still there. But a pet, especially a dog is something that we're allowed to show affection and is unafraid to give it back. It's one of the only places we'll ever receive that kind of love. Unconditional. And that why it's tough to lose. Truly man's best friend. Sorry if that was rambling, but I think you get my point.

I don’t think it needs to be dog specific, but I understand that dog has always been considered man’s best friend. I broke the fuck down for a hot minute when I learned that my cat of 17 years died while I was living abroad.
Definitely not dog specific, but they are generally the most affectionate pets. Definitely had some great cats though.
We've had a few TMBers lose their dogs in recent years. Weird how none of them made a separate thread from the dog thread to make it about themselves.
