SeaTac is pretty shitty considering how busy it is and how modern Seattle is. Underrated that I have not seen mentioned -- PDX. Efficient, great local food and beer options.
Went to PDX 2ish hours on a Sunday and almost missed my flight. I have never been so worried about missing a flight before. Actually one to Instabul but that was all on me.
I'm calling bullshit. Their rental car center is 15 minutes from the airport. It's the dumbest setup I have yet encountered, and it is really the only serious complaint I have about Sky Harbor
Aside from the efficiency of TSA setups and whatever, my least favorite thing is when airports just feel tight and cramped. From that point of view I kinda loathe seatac. SFO and PDX are the two others I regularly deal with. The new T2 at SFO has been a big upgrade and is pretty nice imo. (I'd assume the same about T1 but I haven't used it yet.) I like that PDX never feels like it's too small for its passenger load, the dinky regional Alaska area aside.
Long Beach Airport is solid. Also a go-to film spot if you’re looking for a retro airport vibe (Catch Me If You Can).
I caught one of these on air once and then immediately went and found the others :nerd: That DXB baggage system is insane
It was a LA traffic joke. I guess Delta doesn’t fly out of there because on my 20+ trips to SoCal I’ve never seen a flight offered out of Long Beach.
They go to Salt Lake and that’s it. Jet Blue has the most routes and Southwest has some. Most all routes are to West Coast cities. Jet Blue goes to JFK and Boston.
A few favorites. Hottest chicks: Austin Airport Best lounges: DFW Best coffee: PDX Favorite restaurant: Christopher's, Sky Harbor
I have a soft spot for ohare. Connected there a lot. Slept on the chairs and floor a few times when I worked for AA and didn’t get on anything standby.
CLT was where I spent a night in the terminal and where there was such a cascade of cancellations that I took a bus from there to New Orleans for a family trip. So it gets put last. Also team confused by the MSP hate.
As a kid I made annual trips to ORD with united. You will never be able to tell me that that erector set architecture isn't delightful. Also the moving walkway is now ending, fuckers
MSP is elite. It has to deal with Lightning, Thunder, Tornadoes, Hail, Sleet, Ice, Snow, and connections with people from like Nebraska. It has great food options, alcohol, and a million IPads and charging stations. Delays and poor weather ruins all travel experience, but it's the place to be if it happens.
After this discussion it appears we all identify different factors when it comes to selecting the best airport. We can’t compare major hubs to airports servicing towns of 100k. Some enjoy a few drinks at an airport bar before departing. Others want to reach the gate during final boarding call.
Not a big fan of having to crawl through the maintenance tunnels in the basement to access the different concourses. Hopefully that will improve once they finish this round of construction.
I dont mind MSP, its pretty good. But for the few times I ever need a connection in the midwest, Detroit is better.
A 30,000 square foot fully immersive, hands on, psychedelic art installation that you will never be able to completely discover or experience.
One of my favorite domestic airports - the non-southwest terminal side that its. This thread caused me to count and I’ve through 60 airports in the US. The amount of dumps out there for airports is pretty staggering...
Once in Sioux Falls I walked through with zero screening. It was a vendor and not TSA. I could have taken anything on my roller bag on and connected with it in DFW or ORD. That was a 3-gate operation I think.
its the first airport I saw the ipad at every seat can order beers to yourself experience and for that it'll always have a soft spot in my heart and a hard spot on my liver
Great description, I would add that it’s a collaborative artist workspace with exhibits that incorporate “non-linear” storytelling. It’s the most sensory stimulating environment I’ve ever been exposed to not on hallucinogens. So the exhibit I saw had this underlying narrative of government black ops and aliens and an abduction of an individual. You go through the thing and there’s hidden clues throughout that are linked to solving the story. George R.R. Martin finances the whole thing. I believe the building may have been a bowling alley before conversion. It in itself is worth the trip to Santa Fe which is one of my favorite places I’ve ever been even without the mind altering Meow Wolf experience. The shit is wild. Website says they’re expanding to Vegas and Denver. https://meowwolf.com/
The acid definitely enhanced a few of the rooms that I probably would have found uneventful otherwise. But, no, drugs aren’t necessary to enjoy. There are people of every age and background in the place, having a great time sans drugs.
the airports where you can take a beer to your gate I fucking love. Nothing worse than chugging a beer and hurrying to the gate to realize you’re still 15 minutes from boarding. Maybe that’s the drunkard in me though
Can you do that in the US? I feel like I’ve only done that in international airports. Love grabbing a couple cans and crushing them at the gate.
Also second the SeaTac hate. Their biggest problem is they can’t hire enough TSA to staff enough Gates. The driving coming in is also terrible. Waiting 30 min to go a mile in the summer to get dropped off is infuriating they haven’t added more lanes.
