Limitations aren’t being applied on funny jokes. More people are just saying “those jokes aren’t funny.
It's tough because "funny" is subjective. I think your sensitivity to SJW issues plays a role in whether or not you think those jokes are funny or not. The "professional" reviews of Chappelle's latest special being a prime example. It scored 35% from the critics, who had comments like: Lacking empathy can certainly be amusing, but Sticks & Stones is a tired routine by a man who forgot to layer jokes into his act, too often sounding like a pundit on Fox News. Like dropping in on a rascally uncle who doesn't know, or doesn't care, how much he's disappointing you. Sticks and Stones registers as a temper tantrum, the product of a man who wants it all -- money, fame, influence -- without much having to answer to anyone. Audience score: 99% (38,000 scores) Grated, it's not the first time critics have been wrong, and some critics liked it.
Humor is about context. It’s your brain’s sudden realization that something is out of place due to context. Good comedians are skilled at crafting that context as much as possible with the set up for the punchline. But the audience brings their own understanding as part of the context too. The comedian can’t do that all themselves. As society changes, the audience’s contribution to context changes as well. If you want to earn that laugh, you adapt to that changing of the shared part of the context.
I think comedians are used to operating under the assumption that anything goes because "it's just a joke." Nothing use to be off limits. Jokes that killed 10 years ago would now get you fired from most jobs or eliminate you from consideration. I think the push back on comedians is going to end up causing them to go even harder. I think that's fairly obvious after watching Chappelle's latest special.
Even Ari has become a bit too much with some of his takes. I just find it very interesting what Rogan likes to freak out over and yet likes to play the "I'm left wing! I grew up in SF. The only thing I care about is 2A!". He still hasn't said a word about Alex Jones completely going off the rails. Which was a week after JR & Andrew Santino went on Infowars.
Not a fan of Joe's standup at all. Listened to my first episode in a while today. It's much more of a January-Aprilish pod for me. Just don't have much time to get to a 3 hour show right now with all the college football and baseball podcasts I listen to.
Edward Snowden episode is pretty interesting. Obviously a very polarizing figure but I enjoy the episodes where Joe gets out of the way and lets a knowledgable guest talk.
So Rogan is getting cancelled*? Rogan said he's voting for Bernie in the primary Bernie put the video of Rogan saying that on his web page/Twitter Woke Democrat Socialist Bernie supporters responded with outrage that Bernie was accepting an endorsement from Rogan.
his podcast isn't getting cancelled. Hence the " * " He's getting "cancelled" by those who are woke. Cancel is getting a new use. Canceling and cancel culture refer to removing support of public figures on the basis of their objectionable opinions or actions. This can include boycotts or refusal to promote their work.
I thought the same thing initially when I saw it. I should have been more clear. This will have zero effect of Rogan and probably make him more popular. I'm curious to see how he addresses it. He should do a panel with Jordan Peterson and Alex Jones to discuss the issue
It's not? Who are the people responding that "This is a pathetic response and I’m done. It is clear the Bernie Sanders campaign does not care about holding transphobia accountable, among the many other awful things Joe Rogan has perpetuated on his program." ??
Riner has posted before about only being on tmb at work.. his posting history should be in the Smithsonian when you consider someone is paying him while he sprews his inane drivel on this here website
Shallow liberals, the like that aren't Bernie fans to begin with. Mostly Biden and former Kamala fans trying to attack him from the left.
I'm not sure how you know that, but thank you for the correction. Considering the last 2 election cycles, Democrats seem to dislike Bernie more than conservatives
Pretty sure it was the LGBTQ community that is against the endorsement. Anyone that has listened to one of Rogan’s Podcasts shouldn’t be shocked by that.
I once asked a Planet Fitness employee where the scale was. I was told "this is a judgement-free zone, sir, we do not have scales"
Like most political campaigns, people's opinions on the endorsement are based on their own views of the candidate more than the other way around. Bernie fans like the endorsement now but may very well have had the reaction you've seen if it went to someone else. And vice versa for fans of Bernie's opponents.
From what I gather, there are some people who think that Rogan endorsing Sanders looks bad on Sanders because of Rogans past comments, and some people seem angry that people are writing these articles that focus on said endorsement. So people don't like Rogan, and people dont like that people dont like Rogan.
Some people on social media that tend to be left leaning are pissed because Joe endorsed Bernie for president and created an add stating so. Those angry feel Rogan is a trans-phobic, racist, bigot, sexist, alt right scum bag. Its stupid and silly and will only serve to make people support both Joe and Bernie more.
I mean his friendship and white knighting for Alex Jones is pretty fucked up. With that said, I don't think he should or will be canceled. Oh also, he's a Seth Rich truther...
The issue most have w Joe is he has people on like this, who say ignorant shit like this, that get no push back, and are excused because they're just making jokes or trying to be a provocateur, which means the dumb and hateful shit they say shouldnt count.
