This, I was actually online today when the new ones dropped and when I hit refresh, they were gone as soon as they showed up. Also My trout 2020 Baller showed up and I’m delighted to inform you guys you all have a chance of pulling the 1 of 1 edition.
I don’t too much watch case breaks on YouTube because they feel so business like and lack the joy behind a big hit but there’s a few guys that are more hobby guys that I fuck with. this guys random hobby pack vids are fun. He’s like 95% football.
If anyone near Pittsburgh is still looking for Series 1 or Gypsy Queen the Target in Monaca is loaded.
Make sure to check your targets this week. Bowman mega boxes are releasing and apparently can only be purchased in person. They’re apparently very good buys and have re-sale value if that’s what you’re looking for
Houdini hit an orange Jasson this morning. The guy who paid 100k for that auto spot is going to make $ off his spot and that's incredible
It was a fun run(I think Griffey/Trout are going to always pump big #'s now). It'll be interesting to see what tomorrow's #'s are
Also, maybe this will make it so that all the cards at <50k print go up in prices, like those that were <10k went up
Hopefully. The 4 up for sale nowInow not really interested in getting. Not sure what the value on any of them will be.
I don't care for either of today's 2. I ordered one of each of yesterdays, I thought both looked very clean/sharp. I will say, I am feeling very good about my Jamieson McGwire making me some $$
I'll probably get some Trouts next time he comes up and see what happens. I imagine he will easily break 100k by a good bit.
I don't think any targets or walmarts in my area have been restocked in weeks. I understand that product is limited but not even more Gypsy Queen or Topps. The LCS had some bowman today and I bought a few packs and got a Sam Huff Auto that goes for around $40. They had a box of jumbo packs listed for 780. He was just a hair below the market right now on everything else.
Anybody got any gamecocks, braves, mahomes, brees, rodgers, favre they wanna sell? Take it to PM is fine. Also Witten, Romo, DeMarcus Lawrence.
My local card store was stocked with mosaic but prices jacked to where I didnt want to pay it. So I just grabbed some supplies and found a Kobe rookie on his display case for $12 that sells for $20-30 on ebay so it must have been sitting there a while and he didn't update the price.
Most his stuff was overpriced. Think he fixed a lot of the stuff. I look in the basketball case and he had a lot of the Ja/Zion/Luka stuff for more than it goes on ebay. He had ok prices on junk era rookies for like Shaq, Duncan and stuff but mostly cards i could get for same or less on ebay so nothing that I needed to jump on. Some of that stuff sells great graded so I may go back to see if any in great condition
I just discovered Phil Hughes youtube channel and holy shit does that guy have some amazing things. IT would be nice to have the millions of dollars to back role his hobby. Kind of neat to see that high end stuff get pulled or hear about the breaks he's in that cost thousands of dollars.
Is it wrong to want the government to stop handing out all this stimulus bullshit so the economy can faceplant already and jackfuck collector has to sell off cards to eat & pay bills so I can complete a few sets? Because I don't feel bad in the least for wanting this to happen.
Nope, like I’ve said before I just got back into collecting right before the Rona hit and was not expecting these prices. Hopefully here as the summer gets in full swing everything will level back out and return to normal. Fuck I was looking at putting a pool up and they are sold out in a 200 mile radius. Everything is just crazy right now.
What are some products or strategy’s to invest in? Buy cheap or rip and small chance someday they might take off. Right now we have been just stock piling any rookies/autos/relics.
I'm not sure I'd invest in a bloated market, if you're not collecting for fun you're probably going to be in a world of hurt in the not so distant future.
I would say invest in guys like doncic but prices are crazy so maybe wait some time to see if it levels out. NBA is blowing up. Maybe buy some good looking ungraded cards of his, guys like Bellinger and Acuna and get them graded. Realizing how much my LeBrons are worth now kind of got me back into it. I originally bought signed bowman rookies of Tigers prospects for my personal collection (my signed Verlander rookie I invested in has aged well too) and Young Guns for Red Wings. I expanded into an Acuna psa 10 bowman chrome. I've bought a couple blaster boxes too but haven't pulled anything great. Prices are too crazy right now, so I've basically stopped buying again. I have a friend who is going crazy right now. He paid like $500 for a PSA 10 signed Ja Morant rookie. But he is paying with house money because i was telling him about how much the base LeBron I had was going for, and he went back to his parents house and found he had like 12 of them from when he was younger.
I'm not sure, I could see it go either way. Gary Vee has done a video about how the sports card market is going to blow up and it will be the next craze like sneakers. Yahoo and other places have done articles about it. This generation has shown they will invest in stuff that reminds them of their childhood, i think it could stay hot. Now of course, you have to invest smartly. People paying ridiculous amounts for these boxes are crazy. I watch a lot or box breaking videos on YouTube and it seems like 90%+ aren't getting close to getting their value back. People bidding up prospects at insane prices is crazy too. I've thought about buying some Kobe rookies on the cheap and getting them graded. Pick and choose and look for good ones, but its a lower risk venture and I think the market for a guy like kobe will be steady and increasing. For example you can grab a Kobe collectors choice rookie for $12-30 on ebay. If you can find one in real good shape, 9s are going for up to $100 and 10s $150+. Even a 8 sold recently for $48. Find one in real good shape and pay $20ish for the card or cheaper, pay $20 to get it graded and if you did good enough job reviewing it you should get at least an 8 and make some money with a chance at a nice payday. And a graded Kobe rookie I think will always have a market.
If you're looking at it from an investment angle, the best route is to buy ungraded cards and get them graded. The older the card the greater chance it isn't in as good of shape. This is why new collectors are flocking to the PSA 10s. They don't want to do the leg work of buying 5 or 6 of a card in hopes that one is going to grade at a 10. They just want to buy the label. I do both. I buy stuff/players I think will increase in value and then I use that to buy cards I love. Use advanced metrics/stats to your benefit. If you think about NBA players that went from prospect to star, like Giannis, 90% of the time the writing is on the wall with the advanced metrics. His rookie year was nothing to see. His second season showed great improvement (14.8 PER, 6.2 Win Shares, .117 WS/48, 1.2 VORP). At that point I would have bought some shares. In year 3, he improved on all of those numbers - more shares would have been bought. And the rest is history. Kawhi's career arc is similar. His rookie season showed that he was going to be a valuable player. Harden too. So if you're looking to invest your money in the most recent rookie class you're going to be disappointed. It is pretty bad outside of Zion, Ja and a few others. One player I've been buying a lot of is Brandon Clarke. Did you know he lead the entire rookie class in Win Shares, BPM and VORP? His Silver Prizm can be had for $30-40. I'm also collecting shares of Nic Claxton. His stuff is dirt cheap. If you're looking for an upside investment from this past rookie class then he's your guy. Jaxson Hayes is another guy you can buy for cheap. All 3 showed well in the advanced metrics. Other guys I'm buying are Mitchell Robinson, Jonathan Isaac and to a lesser extent Wendell Carter Jr.
I don't think it is going to go back to where it was. I don't know that stimulus checks are driving the market. I think there are a lot of 25-40 year olds with disposable income and a lot of downtime right now. Everyone loves nostalgia so they probably figured "I liked Griffey, I'm going to go and buy a couple rookies regardless of price." I think it'll settle at some point but I don't think things will ever go back to where they were. As others mentioned, it is also being written about as an investment strategy due in part to Gary Vee.
My wife ran into some old guy at our storage unit. Turns out it's the guy that owns the lot. They were talking about all the stuff hes collected from people not paying , and he said hes got 100,000's of cards. He said hes looked up a handful on ebay and said some are $1000 cards. I'm skeptical but he wants me to come check them out to see if any are worth a shit.
How much could I get for this Pujols rookie? Bottom right corner on front isn't great, might grade at 6-7 but I'm no expert
Grocery shopping tonight at Meijer after giving up on finding cards. Decided just to check on my way out and they had Bowman. Grabbed the 2 blasters they had and four packs. Just opened 2 of the packs in the car and pulled a Skubal chrome first pack and a Jasson chrome 2nd pack. Going to open the rest when I get home because I have frozen food but a nice start
I invested in a laser cutter. Going to clean up a bunch of messed up cards and make them perfect and grade and resell them for a lot.
Haven't even touched the blasters or last pack yet. Hope to grab another. Same pack that had Jasson in it had a Pete Alonso insert that goes for about $5 too. Hell of a pack
