not even sure why this thread got bumped but just a heads up there is no such thing as a republican that’s a “great person” (or even mediocre person) in the year 2022
Lost in all of this she could have easily run as independent and fight the shift of the Republican Party into outright fascism and instead doubled down
We have to border Florida and I would like to put up a wall until we figure out what the hell is going on
Forget that, she could've just run as an only slightly RWNJ well to the center of Mo Brooks. But instead, she chose to try to out-RWNJ one of the biggest RWNJ's in congress.
it was definitely necessary. zero chance you get out of the primary without going full MAGA asshole. Trump won the election by +60%!
It was definitely a risk, but Brooks is historically a pretty poor campaigner. She was going to have to pander; that was a fact of life. No anti-Trumper or even Trump neutral can win here, but she's gone beyond that.
I don't watch much TV, but the guy we are live in caretaker for watches all the game shows through out the day, and the other day in rapid succession the commercials were 4 political ads back to back. I was cooking in the kitchen, and may have contemplated stabbing my ear drums with a knife. It was a Kay Ivey then Mike Durant then Britt then Brooks
Have to take pleasure in the small things, and I take pleasure in knowing that Mo Brooks' political career ends tonight.
I'll hold out hope that this campaign was the low part and maybe she'll do like her boss and just funnel us lots of money and solid federal judges.
I get it. We're talking degrees of awful here. I'm just hoping she'd join up with somebody more like Tom Cotton than Cruz/Hawley. I'll just relatively miss Shelby.
Have you seen how the republican party has shifted hard right in the last few years? You are getting extremists from here on out
Alabama politics? Completely incapable. We have the dumbest senator in America. We have who I would say is arguably the most anti-democratic representative in America. It's beyond depressing.
I have no faith in republicans. Everyone left in it is either anti-democratic and extremist or is willing to pander to those people and advance those causes to have a career.
It’s so bleak to be hoping someone takes after the “Steve King of the Senate” as your best case scenario though.
Sassy does plenty of things. They’re just the same bad things Cotton, Cruz, and Hawley actually do, but with a different public-facing persona. This concept of degrees applies more to personalities than actions/inactions. Also why Rs are so effective at minority rule. Lock-step.
Yeah, I know. He at least voted for impeachment though. In this state you’d fare worse than Tom Rice if you did. Alas, at least my representative is a Dem.
Not if you can read/comprehend. We’re talking about what is actually achievable for Alabama because of how bad our options are. Would I take Sasse over Tuberville or Britt/Brooks? Absolutely
I can’t imagine Sasse would have a political career in Alabama these days. He might not have one in Nebraska much longer.
Shelby basically hand-picked our district court judges and did an excellent job. We have a really good federal bench, as shocking as it may be.
