i *know* theres a whole bunch of people like you that don't have amazon prime, but this is still wild to me. are you going to keep signing up for free trials or just not watch thursday night games?
Just won't watch them after the trial runs out. If I really feel I need to then I'll just find a stream online of the nefarious variety.
Best part is the link in the email I got to recycle the stuff was a dead link and the at&t customer service site also has a dead link to one of the recycling resources. Best I can tell is "take it to Best Buy"
As expected: old Chromecast and CC Ultra discontinued. Nothing really significant unless you really value that it can be powered off a USB port. https://9to5google.com/2022/09/22/chromecast-discontinued/
I’m catching up on the thread and seeing a lot of questions on YTTV 4K streaming… Don’t forget that your YTTV login can be used on Fox Sports’ app too, they have a lot of 4K content there that isn’t available through YTTV’s app. I’m not sure what other networks do this but I’m sure there are a few.
College football is the only time I’ve used it but I’m sure their soccer and racing coverage is similar
Once the major sports leagues, the networks they have contracts with for live games, and ESPN start putting their nationally broadcast games on streaming, it's going to be curtains for traditional pay TV.
I can't imagine having subscription TV if I wasn't a sports fan. Except cable news what isn't available elsewhere?
Even sports viewership has to be trending down. Why commit to 3 hours half of which are commercials when I can watch 3 minute recap on YouTube.
NBA does like them 8-10 minutes highlight videos for each game that show basically every basket and key/highlight defensive play that several YouTubers popularized.
Have you heard of Sportscenter? I don’t think having the option to watch recaps is a reason that viewership may dip. People still watch full games because it’s entertainment, not just so they see the final score and big plays. The stronger argument is that people aren’t big enough fans of some events to purchase a stand alone product. I watched 20 Royals games each year, usually on in the background when I’m making dinner. Now since Bally isn’t in YTTV, I’ve watched maybe two games.
Yikes. Did you just argue that people hold onto cable because they want sportscenter? Have you seen the viewership numbers on sportscenter? Why would I as a casual fan fast forward through an hour block of sportscenter on the potential that my team is featured when I can just go to my teams Twitter page and get everything I need? But yes, I also agree with your second point. I’m not that big into my teams other than fsu to pay extra just to watch their games.
He’s saying the ability to skip a 3 hour game and watch a shorter highlight reel of the games has been available for 30+ years
No, I said that tongue in cheek, I meant Though I’ll probably have egg on my face when someone pulls up the views on some of these YouTube videos being described
Does anyone have a good antenna to recommend? Currently checking out some options on amazon, but there are way too many to choose from. TIA
I could get NBC and CBS but not ABC and Fox so I just bought a better one and now get those also. Was kind of a guessing game for me as I was looking for internal ones but not near the window for those flat ones that go on the window. Those would be what I’d go for if near a window but if not, this is what I got https://www.target.com/p/philips-optima-hd-indoor-tv-antenna-black/-/A-76485329#lnk=sametab
Thank you sir, you read my mind. The TV it would be for is about 5 feet from a window/glass door, but would prefer to not have one on such glass with a cord running to it. And may need one for a second TV with no windows nearby, so this would be a nice way to test things.
Does your TV area have one of these nearby? If so, you might be able to mount in the attic/roof to avoid a smaller antenna mounted on an interior wall or window. Also, what is your zip code?
77004 And thanks, i'll check for that coax. I ended up adding some shelves and cabinets to living room and planned to stream the whole time, so i honestly can't remember if i ever saw one in the living room
There are great tools for antenna pointing and knowing where the towers are. Here is a simple one. https://www.channelmaster.com/pages/tv-antenna-map-houston-tx-77004 TVfool.com can help you with advanced stuff, including more technical deep dives. I haven't bought in a few years, but I'd go with Moho...depending on what channel(s) you want and your tolerance for visible hardware. You're not in the boonies, so you should be good with an indoor unit I reckon.
At my old place when I quit direct tv I yoinked the satellite and replaced it with an antenna and it werked pert good
Guess I'll be going to my inlaws today. Can't wait until I can get decent internet out here and can drop them.
Dish better get that shit negotiated before full CFB schedule hits today or they're gonna lose tons of people to streaming forever when those people figure out how much simpler it is.
So uh, this Dish thing blows.... ESPN+ doesn't include live ESPN, etc? Where the hell can I stream stuff today?
This is what I did. Need to give it an honest shot anyway. how shitty, wasted $10 on that in a panic this morning.
I'm sure if I were anything but an ND fan I'd find value in it, I've got a month now so I'll try it out. I can finally watch the show Eli and Peyton filmed here at least.
luckily I root for the premier football team in Americas finest football conference so all I really need is ESPN+
Internet where I am has data cap limits and then they start charging extra, so I'm stuck for now. Just down the road is fiber. Hoping that improves with the infrastructure bill.
