Set the game to record on Amazon. Started watching late. Selected to start from the beginning, and it went straight to live. Bummer.
Other than AppleTV what’s the best “firestick” type option to watch YTTV on? Don’t really want to buy another AppleTV for a TV I won’t use a ton.
Chromecast since Google owns YTTV. It integrates all of it onto the homepage. I take mine with me while travelling and the nordvpn app is sweet.
Correct me if I'm wrong here but isn't Chromecast just the ability to "cast" YTTV (or whatever video) from your phone to your TV? I have one and that's all it does, which is nice but are there other Chromecast versions that have an actual UI? Roku basically turns your TV into a Smart TV where that's the UI and you download the YTTV app onto it so the nice thing is you never have to use your phone to launch an app to cast from there.
Yea I think you have it wrong or are outdated on technology. I am referencing this device fwiw. I used to use Roku Sticks, Still have Roku TVs. But with Youtube TV, it integrates much better. Roku did not even have a YTTV specific app until earlier in 2022. You had to access it through the regular Youtube app. Chromecast is a full interface, all the apps, including a YTTV app. But why is it better? Beyond the YTTV app, the second you login to your device, the Homepage presents as is YTTV is the primary source of entertainment. To the effect of, I can leave my living room where i watch YTTV on appletv go up to my outdoor tv with the chromecast stick and the homepage - without accessing the yttv app - and it will have "continue watching" recs curated from yttv.
Yes https://store.google.com/product/chromecast_google_tv?hl=en-US&pli=1 ^actually Roku did, but them and google were being pissy, and Roku removed it from the app store as a
casting from a phone of laptop to a stick is I guess possible, but idk why you would when the device has all the apps you download within it.
Technically that device is called Chromecast with Google TV. I think they still make the regular Chromecast that doesn't have a remote or GUI
Ahhh this clears it up. I just have the OG Chromecast. YTTV sent me the version with Google TV for free for being an early adopter but I gave it away to my brother and his family.
So basically, The Hebrew Husker you'd just need to research which UI or operating system would be best for you and what the differences are between Roku and Google TV because the method of using the hardware is going to be the same between them.
I have them all. Here is my preference, which is almost singularly influenced by how powerful and thus smooth the UI is. Apple TV Android TV or Chromecast with Google TV Roku FireTV It's hard to beat the $30 OG Chromecasts for secondary tvs for football watching etc, but if you like cheap roku or cheap fire tv devices, then by all means keep doing it. The Apple 4K tv will likely be the first or joint first device to get the mosaic mode whenever it comes out.
I'd go the same. Fire TV is truly fucking trash but it's cheap and easy to do Kodi stuff and other things that are used mostly for pirating. But the Chromecast w/Google TV can do that with a better UI and less shitty hardware.
I cast shit all the time. Main TV has an Nvidia Shield TV w/chromecast built in. 2nd TV has a Chromecast w/google TV' Both have pretty much the same UI.
Roku had to remove its YTTV app because it was in a carriage dispute with Google, that's why YTTV had to be accessed through youtube for a while.
Yep...and it wasn't actually removed from anyone if you had it downloaded prior to the dispute. It was just no one new could download it for a while which didn't even end up mattering because like MA said Google just created a work around where it could be accessed thru the traditional YT app.
b/c its the most powerful streaming device, even faster than xbox/playstation etc. I could also see it arriving jointly on the existing version of the Chromecast w/ Google TV (4k, they are about to release an HD version next week, per rumours) but there is so much different android tv hardware that it won't be a wide release. What are you referring to here?
That was a sarcastic comment just pointing out the competitive landscape between the two. Really though are you basing that claim on what you say is a hardware advantage that you think will be required for Mosaic mode or have you seen or read information to support that it would launch there first?
Exactly that. My speculation above is coupled with the fact that ESPN only supports multicast, iirc, on Apple TV and consoles. The firepower necessary to play 4 feeds at once will be sky high, so I expect it to never even come to some lower power devices such as entry level FireTV devices. Edit: I just looked up Fubo TV's multiview feature. It is only available on Apple TV. It looks fantastic.
I’m guessing we’re a ways out on Mosaic Mode for YTTV? Guess I’ll start looking into Fubo today, because that looks awesome
I don't think it can be beat for college football. My only issue is that it doesn't have Turner (TBS, TNT, etc.) channels. Really only a problem for me during March Madness and I just get Sling for a month but more problematic if you care about MLB play offs and the NBA. If you decide to get it: https://refer.fubo.tv/x/0w3Cjx $15 or $30 off your first bill depending on the package.
I think that is fair. It was supposedly briefed (not even demo'ed?) to business partners only a few months ago. Here is the original reporting on it. https://www.protocol.com/entertainment/youtube-shorts-tv-app
Why does it take years to prepare and release 4 screen picture-in-a-picture. PS Vue had it years ago.
Damn. That is a legitimate drawback. Oh well. I don’t mind paying for a couple different services temporarily.
Just thinking ahead and dreaming a little bit. 4K YTTV + Mosaic Mode + ESPN+ Integration would be the promised land.
agreed, besides one weekly CFB game on ESPN 4k, no new pages have really been turned over for this cfb season.
Seeing I can get “Chromecast with Google TV (4K), 2-pack” at Costco for 79.99, compared to one for 49.99 at Target. Might just do that.
Sure, but if you're gonna make a post telling someone what they're saying is wrong you should probably not have wrong stuff in your post as well.
@AndroidPolice: Interested in Google TV, but don't want to spend 50 bucks to try it out? Today's your lucky day https://t.co/kwYokp4hMO
Those of you with Roku TVs - have you tried or found that you get better performance from a device vs native apps? I have a couple of TCL 5 series that get a little laggy at times on some app interfaces.
I have 2 TVs that have Roku. My main TV is a TCL 6 series that has the Roku OS native and that TV is about 5 yrs old. My second TV is a Samsung that is not a SmartTV and is probably 8-10 years old at this point. I have a Roku Ultra that is about 5 years old hooked up to that TV. Similar to what you said...the TCL with the native Roku is a bit more laggy (compared to the Roku Ultra) when using the interface or scrolling quickly thru the YTTV guide for example. It's not major though. It's noticeable but not to the point of being an inconvenience.
The true numbers on how many more Prime subs this ultimately got them won't be known for approx. 3 weeks because some people (like myself) just signed up for the 30 day free trial and will cancel without paying for a sub a day or two before it runs out. As of this moment their numbers are going to show me as a new member who signed up because of that game but they won't ever get money off of me from it.
