Sucks since this had one of the best lineups of the fests this year. Lots of people thinking some shady stuff of going on since their excuse is "unforseen circumstances" and they scrubbed all of their social media and don't even have the cancelation post up there as well as refunds taking a month at the earliest to get back. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?st...l&id=561927950501658&sfnsn=mo&mibextid=ijjfgs Edit: Don't know why the link isn't embedding, but it's announcing Echoland is canceled.
What was the lineup? Seeing a lot of live Nation blame in the comments which wouldn't surprise me at all that they just weren't getting enough money the greedy fucks
Vulfpeck still getting after it? Feel like I haven’t heard much of them after they were the hotness like in 2016
They've had a couple albums come out the past few years, but I know they've spent some time the past few years focusing on The Fearless Flyers. Pretty dope prog jazz/funk project if you haven't checked it out.
They released an album late last year but only had a few festival dates this year I think. Cory Wong is touring with Victor Wooten right now.
Gonna check out Moe tonight after I get the kids down. First time seeing them in probably 15-20 years.
Billy impressed once again last night. Seems like State Farm has improved their sound equipment as well.
Got to sit in Atlanta Social last night. Nice setup and perks but probably not the best show to see from there. Still the sound was pretty good.
They need to do a Peloton type class off of this. Actually PYITE > Ghost together is the perfect 35 minutes on the bike with the cool down built-in at the end
Nothing better than them right now for me. Unbelievable. It almost feels like they shouldn’t be as good as they are. Arena Billy is more fun than I thought, they lit the Charleston Coliseum up. I heard from a pretty credible source last night that they’re done with Halloween in Asheville though. Bummer. Not sure where that will be if true, but will be booking that trip for sure.
Went to the Caverns this weekend to see the Biscuits. Quite possibly the best concert I have ever been to, band was absolutely on fire in a venue that is perfect for them. Saturday was movie night. For second set, they played the Fifth Element on the screen behind them and scored the movie with an hour and a half long jam before going into one of their new songs to end the movie. Guy in a monkey suit was handing out popcorn to the crowd right before. Was quite the scene. Sunday was the best of the three night run. Just straight dance party all night, played all the way through each set without stopping. Absolutely furious peaks. Only break all night was the 20 minute setbreak. Did not know the band could still throw down like this in 2023. I can die happy
This looks really good. Sam is David Grisman’s son. Caught his project a few weeks ago. They’re great and he’s really talented. He can switch back and forth from keys, guitar, and mandolin. They play a lot of Jerry’s stuff electric, and they all switch to acoustic/single mic for Garcia/Grisman stuff and Dawg music.
I could never really get into them but appreciate/liked for the passion. Might have to check these out. We all say “best” this and that a lot, but to me that’s always implied as “favorite” when you’re taking about art. I always like reading about what other people like/find in other bands in this space. Regardless of which band captures your attention and gets you there, we’re all looking for the same thing.
Well said. The flip side of that is there's always that one guy (it's almost always a dude) who, when you say "that was one of the best concerts I ever saw [name of artist / band] play" does that "yeah, I was there, I didn't think they were that good that night. You should have seen them at [show you didn't attend in city you've never been to]" ---> I've probably been guilty of being that guy; should never be that guy
Yeah, favorite is probably the better way to put it…certainly a preference thing, but the whole experience was phenomenal. I’ll be the first to admit the Biscuits are probably the most inconsistent band on the planet. They are certainly not for everybody, but when they are clicking there is no other band in the world I would rather see. That type of inconsistency is the nature of the beast when 70-80% of your show is type 2 improvisation and they have played nothing but destination shows over the past 10 years with little to no practice. They are now back in a huge way. Playing as well as they have since 2009, releasing new music as a part of another rock opera to be unveiled at some point this year, creating a fresh new sound in their live show. I couldn’t be more excited. If anyone is going to jazz fest, I would highly recommend giving one of the late nights a try
Any of y'all been following the news about Lotus' percussionist? He and his son have been missing at Beaver Lake in Arkansas since Thursday. They were on a spring break kayaking trip and it sounds like they were on the lake when the weather turned as the cold front moved through. So far both kayaks and a winter coat have been recovered, but no sign of Chuck and his son. Really shitty situation that doesn't sound like this will have a positive outcome.
I know from experience you don't want to be on the water when unexpected weather rolls in. Just wind itself across a large lake can fuck you up.
Not sure on that, but this guy is usually right about NC venue stuff. Would love if they were there again though
With the exception of Billy Strings, I've been unfair to new bands. I guess I'm just a stubborn old curmudgeon who thinks music is dead and no new bands are worth giving a chance. Well, I finally gave Goose a fair chance and deeper listen -- listened to most of the Capitol Theatre run from a couple weeks ago. I was wrong. They are sick. Glad there's a new band carrying the torch.
Some of the Capitol Theater video streams are on YouTube. Throwing one on tonight and testing out the Sonos Sub.
Who do y’all have breaking out of the club and tiny theater scene next? I’m saying Daniel Donato and Cosmic Country. Feel like they will blow up sooner than later.
There’s another band I dig that I found on Instagram called Blue Light Bandits. I had followed their guitarist for a while and then learned he had a band. They got a lot of potential
I’d say this is probably a good pic. Could certainly see Neighbor working their way up but don’t see them reaching the level of popularity of Goose and Billy.
Posted about them in the bluegrass thread. Excited about Mighty Poplar. Going to be clean never flashy pickin in the style of The Bluegrass Album Band. Alex Hargreaves is on the album, but looks like he might not be on the bill for this.
Relistening to Billy Halloween and their version of War Pigs is just insane… Royal on electric bass is unreal
Really cool what The Cure is doing with Ticketmaster and resale sites. They refused the platinum/dynamic pricing bs (need more artist to do this). The prices were still more than they expected with fees and ended up getting TM to refund $10 of their convenience fees for every ticket. They’re also taking on Vivid and some of those sites that are just bot scalper derived marketplaces. They’ve had at least 7k tickets cancelled from the resale market so far and are donating all of that money to Amnesty International. Some of these secondary sites are trying to sell credentials to a TM account that has the ticket in it instead and they’re trying to squash that too.
The problem is the venues are in bed with TM and these other sites so no matter what bands try to do they’re essentially powerless I assume In terms of ticket distribution it’s hard to think of an alternative that could work
ISO 1 ticket to Goose today in Birmingham if anyone knows of any extras. Shocked at how difficult it’s been to find one
I’ve been immediately responding to every every post on CoT within a minute of it being posted and still striking out
