I wish there was a less preachy version of those. The content is interesting but I could do without the guilt trip of using fossil fuels
Watched the Swedish House Mafia documentary yesterday called Leave the World Behind. Very entertaining, but you don't get a whole lot of insight on why they broke up. I'd 100% recommend if you want a doc that won't put you to sleep and have interest in SMH. You definitely do get a lot of concert footage which is cool, and the documentary is very stylish (you'll get what I mean if you watch it), but the documentary does a pretty shitty job at the personal lives of these guys.
Ya Hoop Dreams was great. Can't believe it took me 20+ years to watch it. Probably gonna watch The Overnighters later this evening.
Watching Fed Up right now and it's both sad and frustrating. This one lady has a 12 year old daughter that's 215 lbs and morbidly obese and the lady says she watches her diet super closely. Then, they go to the lady's house and she whips out low-fat triscuits and a bunch of other highly processed, sugary, carby snacks and points out how they are "low-fat". Not one vegetable, fruit or protein in sight. She even pointed to a row of like 8-9 cereals and said they are great for meals because they're low in fat. How somebody can be that clueless nowadays is beyond me. 3 minutes of Googling.
Angers me as I read your post. I don't blame her for being tricked by advertising, let's just give her that much, but I blame her for failing to grasp the basic concept of calories in calories out.
Has Dawg Fight been discussed? Billy Corben's new documentary about the backyard bare knuckles fights that brought us Kimbo Slice. Story is centered around his former body guard Dada 5000.
Watched Deli Man last night. It was pretty good Grew up in suburbs of NYC and brought me back to all the Jewish delis and how much I love a good a good pastrami on rye with mustard Hate how Denver doesn't have 1 deli worth a shit
Has The Nightmare been posted in here? It's part documentary, part horror movie due to reenactments. I refuse to watch because I'm convinced I'll one day get sleep paralysis and I feel this would increase my odds.
Saw it recently. Well made. Pretty infuriating. It focused too much on one issue (flame retardant furniture) when there are a bunch of other good examples of corporate bullshit out there. It's depressingly hilarious how the debates around smoking and climate change are almost exactly mirrored. Attack the science; when the science is proven, attack the source; when that fails, spout off about freedom and government overreach.
Lost Soul about the making of The Island of Dr Moreau is insane. Highly recommend especially if you're a How Did This Get Made fan
This comes out tomorrow. Heard about this on the radio today. They interviewed the guy who bought the smoker with the leg in it. Dude's a fucking weirdo. Such a strange story. Will watch.
