Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread I expected the number or subscriptions to increase after the dead period. I know quite a few people who re-uped for GoT and the rest of the shows starting back up.
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread Not so much cities as wildling (humans who recognize no king) camps.
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread I dont believe so, its been a while since I read the books, I think its just mainly tribes of nomad "wildlings" with no settled cities.
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread They call themselves the free people. almost like arctic Native Americans. they don't like the people below the wall.
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread This might be a spoiler so black it out in answer. Spoiler are there dragons/goblins/trolls in this like Lord of the Rings?
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread no realy, people joke about snarks or whatever. you'll find out more about what lives back there later.
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread Watched the episode and immediately got the books off amazon. Really looking forward to reading for pleasure again.
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread Spoiler Yes there will be dragons, no there are no trolls or goblins, but there are giants beyond the wall, and Others or the White Walkers.
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread Just rewatched it again tonight, trying to find something that isn't covered yet, thought they didn't a decent job with the Hound's armor. I always pictured it not so cut and dry, but I liked it.
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread gonna start reading a song of fire and ice tonight. Dont plan on reading any of this thread until im done.
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread Would encourage people that haven't read the books to not ask too many questions. Honestly, you're supposed to be a little lost at this point. Specific questions about specific items or events in the show are cool, but general questions about the world or characters are likely to be answered over time. That's how it's been with the books, too. We're 4 books in and the whole story about how/why Robert became king has yet to be written. You'll learn more about the people and the world as the show goes on. If you want to know the answers, just keep watching (or read the books). Otherwise, someone is going to spoil it for you/everyone else in this thread. To people that have read the books: if you think you should put soiled tags on your post, maybe you should just say "that will be answered in time" instead.
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread Hooked. Sucks about the kid though. Spoiler I'm guessing he lives but is fucked up in some way and continues the story disabled but is eventually cured by some magic or something [just talking about what happened in this ep and my prediction for the future
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread I'm actually more interested because my questions were answered. But I understand your point.
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread Holy shit exactly this just finished "you know nothing, John snow"
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread Show lived up to its promise, which is something I couldnt say about Empire.
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread I'm very torn over whether or not I should read the books now. I'm very intrigued by the pilot and I asked my roommate if he wanted to watch. He promptly said no way, because he hadn't read the books yet. What do yall think? I figure I can read the first book in about a week.
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread Did you get to the part where Jon casts a patronus against the Others and Westeros is saved?
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread I am in the middle of a book right now and I have a long list of ones in the fold, maybe I should just watch the series. I wanna know about the white walkers pretty bad though, sounds like it would take a lot of reading to find out wtf they are.
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread Yes and no, you find out a decent amount about them in the first book, but it is all stories passed down from generations, you don't get any first hand accounts of them outside of the prologue which has already been aired in the tv series
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread I'm almost scared to read this thread. I feel like it's only a matter of time before I get spoilered.
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread A year ago, literally every word in this post would have gone over my head.
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread I'd advise everyone to get the books. I have them and still can't wait to watch this series. As good as Game of Thrones is, Clash of Kings and Storm of Swords are better.
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread Holy Shit did I love this premier. The only thing I didn't like was the Dothraki wedding ceremony, kinda dumb. I foresee some symbolism/crazy shit with those dragon eggs. You can already tell they are setting up symbolic overtones for the rest of the series, which I hope they flesh out. Really excited about this season, but worried if I stay ITT, some asshole is going to spoil it for me.
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread Anyone who spoils this thread should be banned for a period of time, iyam. I'm really looking forward to seeing the reactions and thoughts of everyone who has not read the book(s), and I also want to answer questions for those who want some better understanding of characters, background info, etc. Anyone who ruins this story for everyone else is a complete asshole.
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread 4.2 million viewers, better than initial numbers showed. Officially renewed for a second season. I feel slightly better about its chances for a long run, but the real test will be to see how many people stick with it by week 6 or 7.
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread I have a feeling it's going to take a little jump next week, then an even bigger one in week three when people see an episode where shit actually happens.
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread nothing happened??? shit I saw two guys get their heads chopped off, multiple sex scenes, and a child getting pushed off a roof. I can't wait to see when something actually happens.
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread haha yeah, it was basically just an intro to the characters. When you get into the actual plot the whole thing is just one big :ohholyfuck:
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread I don't want to be critical, because I actually prefer them casting her character as a somewhat cute kid, but I expected Arya to be a lot uglier. She certainly did not look like a horse face kid.
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread I've never read any of the books, nor do I really know the premise of them, but I found the pilot to be awesome.
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread Yea she could have been a little bit uglier but she is close enough to what I had envisioned.
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread I think it's natural to try not to think of hero-like characters as being uglier than they have to, so it is easy to accept, but she was described in the book as being downright horse-faced, and despite the tomboyish attitude and mischievousness played perfectly, she was far from ugly, and I would even go as far as to say she was cast as a cute little kid.
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread haha same here, I'm kinda glad they didn't make her too ugly, ugly people suck
Re: HBO's Game Of Thrones -- Official Thread which brings me back to the point that in conventional fiction nobody ever wants the hero to have faults, and physical faults especially, so we more easily accept it. I was surprised that it wasn't mentioned earlier when we were discussing casting, but I think this is the reason. BTW, I agree with the comments about Robert's height, but otherwise he is a good Robert. I had actually forgotten the specifics of his height, but while I was watching something felt wrong about when they first showed Robert and Eddard standing next to each other.
