A bit of disinformation on this, especially the way Meghan laid it out. So their son Archie was/is in line for being a prince, but it doesn’t open up until his great grandmother - The Queen - dies. Granted, I have no idea if they told Harry that when the Queen passes away, Archie wouldn’t be given that position. If so, that would be extremely out of the ordinary. But it’s not out of the ordinary for him to not get the title upon birth as his father isn’t directly in line for the Crown.

Beyond that, the matter of security was decided in 2011, not for Archie specifically. The Royal Family gave up security details for certain roles so far away from the succession line in order to stop putting excess burden on taxpayers. Princesses Eugenia and Beatrice lost their security detail at the time, and they’re in the exact same position Archie is in now. So Harry’s children, regardless of who he married, were never going to get the security detail.

In all, those two accusations have plausible deniability for the Royal family to stand behind. Given their wild, archaic rules, this is actually standard operating procedure. That said, it wouldn’t shock me if Harry’s father did make the skin color comment or if he didn’t try to help the situation at all. He is a massive asshole. Beyond that, there is a clear history of the Royal family demoting its own members as second and third class citizens (comparatively speaking) once they move further down the line of succession. These people slowly lose the benefits of being royalty, but still deal with the bullshit. Many of them have run into mental health issues, yet the Crown has continually decided to not help them when asked upon. It’s a running theme in the tv series.

So all in all, the Royal Family are either racists or they’re terrible human beings who don’t look out for their own. Or a bit of both.

That whole family just needs a reset. The Queen and Charles need to be shown the door and William promoted to King.

Andrew's was a total resignation. Edward VIII's was just an abdication of the throne, which was more motivated by his role as head of the Church of England than anything else.

What I found fascinating is “the firm,” whoever the hell they are, more or less controlled the actions of the royal family. If I was a prince, I don’t think you could tell me shit.

I’m not sure William wouldn’t be more of the same. Based on the interview, William and Harry aren’t on good terms.

In theory he could have done a Henry VIII and distanced the monarchy from the church. It was the combination of the king’s potential successor not having a high born, virgin mother and his pal von Ribbentrop that made everyone else encourage him to gtfo. He had lots of leverage to make certain his lifestyle wouldn’t be too austere.

The TV show makes it pretty clear that the entire operation is willing to de-humanize family members for the sake of the sanctity of The Crown. It creates a dynamic where the Queen/King doesn’t look out for their own children (especially 2nd born and beyond), and they’re all driven to the point of mental health issues. All for the sake of tradition and the family keeping “power”.

Haven't watched bc I typically don't care but I may now.

Harry just came across as a good dude in the interview. I remember the old stories of him being a regular kid and drinking and doing weed, and didn't he get naked in Vegas at one point? But now he's grown up, found a wife, and left the entire psycho family bc they treated her like shit. Good for him.

Again, I think you’re mixing two different arguments and creating one I never made:

    1. I disliked Meghan Markle from long before they married. I have my opinion on her and no amount of arguing here is going to change my mind about that. I think she is self-absorbed and not genuine. For example, claiming she barely knew anything about Harry, never looked him up, etc. And other things about how she presents herself that rub me the wrong way. That is a completely separate issue from:

    2. I would be more shocked to hear that the royals weren’t racist. I’m not defending the royals at all. It is a highly formalized white power structure that adheres to very strict convention, especially when it comes to public image.

    3. Given the responsibilities associated with 2, above, there are very good reasons to get the fuck out when you know you have no shot at the crown. Why live such a confined life with so many rules governing your every minute of every day when there is no payoff and you’re already loaded? Which leads to:

    4. They had legit reasons to bolt just because of how that whole system is set up. And especially for a guy like Harry who has reason to despise the paparazzi and limelight. They had a combined net worth of $50 million and whether he’s officially a “prince” or not he stood to make a fuck ton more money trading off of who he is, but without the obligations associated with the title.

    5. In keeping with the point above, the racism is definitely factor. Why put up with that shit when you don’t really have to?

With all that being said, I don’t agree that everything is 100% attributable to racism. It’s an ingredient in the mix, but it’s not the whole cake.

Netflix happens to have a bunch of different Royal family content, and since my fiancé is a fan we’ve watched a lot of it. It’s actually pretty surprising how this particular family rose to power. They’re more German than English, and have connections to many other Royal families around Europe.

As far as Harry goes, yeah he’s way more down to earth than his brother but he was also able to be because he’s not directly in line to be King. Beyond that, he seemingly took the death of his mother way more personally than his brother and in a lot of ways is his mother’s son. She was the outsider, and I think he’s always felt the same. Not to mention his dad might not actually be Prince Charles.

Go watch the video of her speaking about the letter she wrote to Johnson & Johnson or whatever company as a kid where she asked why it was only women on their commercials. Sounds noble, right? Except listen to how she talks about herself. Normal people don’t call themselves exceptional and powerful. Again, small example.

Another small example in yesterday’s interview. They show a picture of Meghan and Harry at some event where they’re holding hands and smiling, and she gives this over the top dramatic description about how you could see her knuckles were white because she was in a full blown panic and how she was drowning in tears each time the lights went off only to magically be smiling each time a camera caught her.

In the end, you have a lady sitting in the garden of a $15 million home in California telling the world that she’s such a survivor! Sorry, but I’m just not feeling those strong Gwyneth Paltrow vibes.

I’ve always thought she has been more interested in being on the A+ list of celebrities and didn’t take all of the plentiful warnings of what her life would turn in to (the same warnings would have been there for a white women without a divorce on their resumè) as seriously as she should have. The fact that she invited George and Amal Clooney to the wedding shows that she wanted to run in such circles.

I like this Harry character. He knows full well that he nor his children will ever touch the crown. As more time passes, and more children are born, they will continue to move farther down the list.

As they go farther down the list, they will get less and less perks from the taxpayers tit, but will still have to answer to the crown and be responsible for crown related activities. He wants the money and perks that his name provides but doesn’t want the shit that comes with it. This isn’t some crazy concept.

I don’t believe he wants out of the public eye though, I think him and his wife love this shit. Why else would you go on tv to air your families dirty laundry? This is someone that was born into his life and possesses no discernible skill other than the name that was given to him. He knows this, he knows his name is all that matters, so he is using it and taking advantage.

This is what happens when you have stupid things like monarchies though.

This again is a pretty awful take.

Are you claiming that of all people an actress wouldn't be able to smile for the camera when necessary? Normal people do that shit all the time when things are falling apart in their life outside of the public eye.

And just because they've landed on their feet, it somehow lessens what they went through? What kind of shit is that? So, if someone had suicidal thoughts or was being domestically abused, if they gave an interview about it a couple years later when they were thriving again and in good mental health, they shouldn't claim to have survived the situation?

He watched his mom die when he was a young boy as a result of similar issues his wife is facing. I think that trauma might've played a part in how he views public life, and was probably fearful of reliving it after seeing his wife starting to go down the same road

He just conducted a tell all interview with Oprah. That to me is evidence that maybe just maybe he doesn’t hate the publicity too much. I could be wrong though let’s see what their actions are going forward

Edit. They also have their own podcast and signed a 100 million dollar deal with Netflix, in addition to getting paid for speeches.
