Miami should probably be cheering for FSU and Clemson to leave so that it can, at long last, be the All Canes Conference. Spoiler
Spoiler: Lol Mario Cristobal will give opportunities to the true freshmen that put the work in and have the talent to compete. And that is especially the case at this stage of the Miami rebuild as Cristobal is working to improve the overall depth and talent of the roster. Two of the seven players listed in this article, Mark Fletcher and Damari Brown, didn’t arrive until the summer, but they have managed to earn significant roles because of their approach during the summer months and fall camp. The willingness to let true freshmen earn significant roles will certainly be a key part of UM’s recruiting pitch for two targets that are set to announce their decisions this week: 5-star DT David Stone and 4-star DB Zaquan Patterson. Miami is battling Oklahoma for Stone and FSU for Patterson. At Oklahoma, Brent Venables played only one true freshman at least 200 snaps last season on the defensive side in defensive end R Mason Thomas. At Florida State, Mike Norvell has played five true freshmen at least 200 snaps in a single season since his arrival in 2020: LB Stephen Dix (467 defensive snaps in 2020), WR Malik McClain (426 offensive snaps 2021), CB Omarion Cooper (267 defensive snaps in 2021), CB Kevin Knowles (568 defensive snaps in 2021), and CB Azareye’h Thomas (327 defensive snaps in 2022). Dix, McClain, and Cooper have transferred away from FSU after playing significant snaps as true freshmen. Knowles and Thomas are each fighting for starting jobs in the FSU secondary this year with the Seminoles expected to feature three transfers as starters at the cornerback positions. Despite having these players earn significant roles as true freshmen, FSU has not shown a willingness to stick with them through the development process—turning to the transfer portal to replace them. FSU’s top ranked signee from the 2023 recruiting class, Hykeem Williams, was a five-star prospect according to the industry and during the summer months the Seminoles added transfer receiver Keon Coleman from Michigan State. Williams was FSU’s first composite five-star signee since Cam Akers, Joshua Kaindoh, and Marvin Wilson in the 2017 class. This is year four of the Mike Norvell tenure and 16 of the projected 22 starters for the Seminoles are transfers. Talented true freshmen will play under Mario Cristobal at Miami. That’s a message UM hopes will land with David Stone and Zaquan Patterson in the lead up to their commitments.
At this point, if you're a QB and you are choosing to not play for Corch Day, Lincoln Riley, or Saban, then you're just a big dummy.
was that Gary Sperman? weird FSU tangent but he ain't wrong about our freshmens, all those kids are gonna play and play a lot, Manure's recruiting was on Willie T's level our best OL last yr was a 3* true frosh fatso who didn't even play until Oct b/c it took him that long to just get to the point he could play more than 7 snaps in a row
Manny = signs a lot of kids that probably arent big time P5 Willie T = signs a lot of kids that are 2nd string FCS
Part of me wants Billy to fail this year, and then we pull off the UF heel turn and hire Lane Kiffin.
i think you need to go take a look as to where all of Manny's kids transfer to he's gonna have a grand total of 8 kids at best get drafted from the 62 he signed 3 of those 8 he only signed b/c of covid and they couldn't go on the bag tour
This week's strains are all "uppy".....I do get a tad spicey......anyway Im serious though I dont think Taggs will have a player drafted He absolutely does not get credit for Jordan Travis No gyaht dang way
Generally think it’s dumb for kids (especially QBs and Point Guards in basketball) to leave high school early but if you’re older because you got held back then it makes more sense. I wonder what the number of kids being held back in middle school are.
yea Lewis needed it because he is bryce young tiny in stature, but now that he got the scholarship offers he can move back to his normal grade if he/USC want. probably varies by state but being held back is prevalent in the atlanta suburbs. This kid went to 3 different middle schools. Dad been pimping him to every media outlet after his sister never made it as a musician.
It’s big in Florida. Also compounded because the school year determines your grade and not the year you we’re born.
yup. Lot of parents intentionally hold their kids back in middle school so they are a year older and more developed for HS football.
I put you guys in the same pot as Miami247 posters. I should probably stop doing that cause a high % of you guys here seem cool.
This was set up perfectly for a “they went pro in something other than sports” easily blew a 50+ like post opportunity
Based on what I read in here yesterday Lewis was already 19 in that pic so this one doesn't hit as hard.
I'm not sure how they do that unless they just tell them to fail all of their classes one year. It's a lot easier to do for kids starting Kindergarten.
