Being in Chicago, I’ve seen Flores a lot. That seems like a horrible hire when it comes to a young qb that needs developed
I'm sure his personality would mesh fantastically with someone like Caleb might as well just schedule the sensitivity/inclusion training sessions and pay the fine in advance
I’d totally read a long book on how McVay’s and Shanahan’s success completely broke the brains of front office people that thought just hiring a young dynamic OC as HC was a guaranteed success.
As much as I loved joking about that stuff, LaFleur and O'Connell did end up becoming two of the better coaches in the league with that background so it ended up being as successful as any other HC hiring trend over the years. And Taylor got to a Super Bowl in Cincinnati. More successful so far than the "Dan Campbell was a former player so any former player is Dan Campbell" has for NE and LV, or all the Belichick tree disasters, or the analytics nerd hires.
The main theme is have a good GM. The 90s were the OGs with Bill Walsh tree run, and had some other awful decisions to replicate Seifert, Holmgren, and Gruden.
Dallas is so weird to allow it to get to this point. Are there any other examples of this in the last 20-25 years of the league?
Jerry Jones is reaching his Bobby Bowden/Joe Paterno phase, the perfect mix of stubborn, old, mental decline, and a complete unwillingness to change. Only difference is he’s the CEO of a multi billion dollar organization.
Haven’t heard him much maybe the past two seasons but I used to really enjoy his analysis when he did color commentary. Feels like he knows the game and played the game. Hope he gets a job and is successful.
really enjoyed this read re: Vrabel https://www.removepaywall.com/searc.../03/mike-vrabel-nfl-coaching-browns-year-off/
When Jerry went on that radio show to bitch at them for making valid points about the deficiency of the team, someone in the family should've stepped in to try and talk him into giving up control. He's destroying that franchise's ability to compete, but I guess if the boatloads of money keep coming in it doesn't matter.
You’re right, I’ve misinterpreted that for a long time. I guess it was kind of an extend me or let’s call it situation, but he did have another year. Thanks.
The Harbaugh thing was definitely as weird as the McCarthy stuff with Dallas. SF was coming off three straight NFCCG (including a Super Bowl) appearances and their owner and GM chose to basically tank that year with nonsense in the media so they could justify firing him to their fan base. And that was after they tried to trade him to the Browns and Harbaugh told them to fuck off.
Bomani and Spencer were saying Harbaugh is very good at pissing the FO off and that's what led to that whole thing. They just wanted him gone and didn't care how they got it done. They were pretty much saying don't be shocked if something similar happens at the next NFL team he's hired at down the road.
Being Jim's boss sucks. That seems to be the experience everywhere he's been. But only one of the places he has been chose to fire him. Based on what I've read on the subject, it seems like Baalke and York hated Jim because Jim is an asshole. But what seemed to send them over the edge and made them want to fire him was that Jim was getting all the credit for their success while being an asshole and they couldn't handle it. They were telling media people that Jim Tomsula would have had as much success as Harbaugh for two years before they fired him.
That has been a rumor over the years from early in his last season. Not sure it was ever verified because around that time it was like the peak of Harbaugh being an urban legend where every story someone told about him sounded believable.
Baalke then hired Jim Tomsula who was WOEFULLY under qualified simply because a new coach would have wanted a new GM. Sniveling fucking worm.
I believe the rumor from that time that 9ers fans could speak more accurately on was that Baalke wanted to hire Adam Gase but York said no and was set on Tomsula. And that story is hilarious in hindsight because both coaches turned out to be train wrecks and they both would have been wrong.
That’s what’s so funny. All these people are being made to fall on the sword for their owners dumbass signing the nasty man
