At first glance, 16 felonies seems pretty excessive. On the other hand, it’s not like he just made up a crime and filed a fake report. Dude planned out and paid for a staged attack and then went on a media blitz and really caused the Chicago PD a huge amount of expense.

I’m not sure there’s an analogous hoax to this one.

I thought it was standard practice to charge the defendant with everything they can technically get and then let the Prosecutors decide how to plead it down and or what to take to court?

This seems an odd change of events.

 

I am really struggling how to rationalize a prosecutor seeking and securing an indictment on 16 felonies and then dropping the case within a month. I’m utterly dumbfounded.
