It doesn’t make much sense for NXT to be a regular traveling show and taking the talent off their training schedule so frequently.
Think they could do something like CW tapings throughout Florida with so many markets and plenty of smaller/mid sized venues there, and be back in Orlando that night or next day. But it'd definitely take a lot of convincing by HHH/Khan to Endeavor to get them to agree to that.
It bumps up the cost for running NXT too because, in addition to all the normal additional costs of going on the road, NXT talent actually get paid more when they go on the road too, which is not the case with main roster talent.
WWE would do such a wildly expensive thing. How do you think random internet marks get AEW fast nationals when the numbers are bad? And the Khan family is worth more than what WWE sold for. The cost of fast nationals is just a tiny drop In the bucket.
Simulcast on Max, hopefully without commercials and in higher quality. If either one happens, then I’ll never watch on cable again.
This would seem to indicate Collision is staying on Saturdays. Mistake in my opinion and doesn’t give me any hope that TK will put more effort into Collision.
Getting a prime time spot on Fox Fox would be a huge win. I’m not sure how they would pull that off. Maybe Tony and one of the execs have the same coke dealer. FS1 might sound good but they would probably be scheduling around a lot of live sporting events which can run over and mess with the show.
looks like Rampage is what got canceled only 150M a year instead of the 170 or the 1 billion dollar deal all the "insiders" were hinting at months ago PPVs on Max at a "discounted price" https://variety.com/2024/tv/news/aew-stream-on-max-rights-deal-warner-bros-discovery-1236166277/
unless the PPVs are like 9.99 or less, thats a wasted opportunity. Peacock having "free" PPVs for 7 bucks a month definitely got more people into or back into WWE.
Agreed. They got to be $25 or less or I’ll just continue to VPN to buy at the international rate, and even then I’m still not going to buy all of them.
Well this confirms Collision staying on Saturdays. Don’t recall if that was mentioned in the Variety article.
was someone saying they were going to get a billion a year or that the deal was going to be 1 billion total? Anyway, great for AEW. Really hope the discount on these ppvs put them less than $20
would imagine the latter but nobody wanted to go on the record beyond the usual wink wink vague gifs/tweets and shit
It was 1 billion over 5 years (hence Punk saying later on 1 Bill Phil) is what someone from I think PWI said and that was well over a year ago. To this day I don’t recall seeing anyone else in wrestling media report that themselves. $200 million a year is still their goal for all of their media (TV, library, PPV, etc) according to SRS. They still working on landing something for that Shockwave show. He said this $150m doesn’t include the library other than what Max will be streaming, which i find pretty surprising if that is true. I’m sure it will land on there eventually, I had just kind of assumed it would have been included in this deal instead of being a separate deal. He also said it includes nothing up front for PPVs so I assume AEW is going to be getting a pretty favorable split on PPV sales revenue since WBD is apparently paying nothing to carry it. Split will probably better than what they get out of the PPV carriers now, especially since Max will have PPV exclusivity in the US as exclusivity always comes at a price.
Streamers don’t care about the library. Significant numbers don’t actually go back and watch old episodes and matches.
I watched a ton of old stuff the first couple years of the network but it's probably been since at least before the peacock move that I've decided to reminisce
Way it’s been explained to me is having a big library helps with subscriber retention. Specifically, a guy who would know far more than me told me that “Netflix bought a bunch of WWII docs during the pandemic because just seeing them on the service keeps people subbed.” Like, “I’ll watch this when life slows down,” but the thing is, life never slows down. Also, today was a great day for pro wrestlers.
That’s like with me and the hundreds of books and comic books I have. I keep downloading them but lol at the thought of me reading even 1/10 of what I have before I die from natural causes. But it’s also kind of depressing to think about at the same time
Love how they are producing these BCC pretapes. The music, lighting, and delivery of the promos gives it a very gritty and sinister feeling.
