Im sure they’ll have an explanation but long story short Aubrey Plaza is getting paid per episode not per scene. So this was the third time they’ve just left her out.
genuinely one of the weirdest shows i've watched wizard of oz and rocky horror picture show had a baby and its this is the best explanation I had when someone asked about it
An observation about Billy’s room I heard on a nerdcast Spoiler There’s been like 20+ objects/posters from his room that have shown up. Kind of fitting along the lines that this road is designed for Billy not Agatha
Was listening to xray vision and they pointed out this was released last Friday. So according to the marvel YouTube page there’s 4 versions so far (Sacred Chant, True Detective, Lorna Wu cover, Pop). Give me an end of act 1 broadway anthem with LuPone belting it and a metal version and I’ll be ecstatic. And shout out to the composers, they’ve got quite the resume, this, wandavision, both frozens, coco, they’re good.
And a grasping at straws theory from that pod about the “familiar” Spoiler I guess part of being a familiar is you have to follow the masters commands of told directly. They found 5 times where Billy had given Agatha a command and she’s followed through but couldn’t find them working the other way. Another possible clue this is Billy’s road not Agatha’s
thought that was great. frustrated the shit out of me sometimes when I just wanted the story to move forward but I guess that was the point. really well done.
Now that the cats out of the bag I wonder what their portrayal of Death is. Is she the daughter of Mephisto soul collector version (Blackheart) or is she the all powerful cosmic being Death. Eternity (the god being at the end of L&T), Oblivion, Infinity, and Death are the 4 all powerful cosmic beings that have existed from the dawn of time. If she’s the cosmic version she’d be the third most powerful character the MCU has introduced (behind Eternity and Gauntlet Thanos. Well 4th if you believe Stan Lee is the One Above All).
Man, I really really thought towards the end when she started talking as the seven were transforming that she’d start singing.
That’s just an Agatha thing I’m pretty sure. There’s an Emerald Warlock that Wanda kills on the witches road but it’s a totally different character.
They used it because it fits perfect for Lidia in that episode. Kind of interesting it’s also one of Uncle Pietro’s songs for his two iconic scenes.
I’ve got to wait and see what our double header has in store next week for a finale. I think the WV/Agatha combo passes up Loki 1&2. I like both Loki finales more than WV. Loki 1&2 have so much story invested in Kang/Majors though and we know all of that has been scrapped. It sucks to hold that against them but we know this story will continue and that one won’t.
Woah, just had it pointed out that the theme/colors of every trial match the order the infinity stones were introduced. The infinity stone colors also match the five elements of Wicca. That’s really creative writing: Jennifer - Blue, Tesserect, Space Stone, CA:FA, Water Alice - Red, Ether, Reality Stone, Thor:TDW, Fire Agatha - Purple, Power stone, GotG, Spirit *Lilia - Yellow, Mind Stone, Avengers:AoU, Air So if it follows the pattern next episode would be Green (Time Stone/Earth), my guess the conclusion to Rio’s story. Then the finale would be orange (soul stone) the answer to if Billy finds Tommy’s soul. *technically the mind stone was in lokis scepter but its placement into Vision was the first real appearance. Edit: Also reading theories the moon phases of each trial match as well. This week was a waxing gibbous => Air
You know what. We’ve seen a “green witch” already in the MCU, the Goddess of Death (one of Mistresses main subject) These guys are doing a great job of tying all this stuff together without beating you over the head with it.
Oh my gosh, there is so much great stuff hidden in here. I’ll probably rewatch this 10 more times before next week. The tarot scene with Billy “the magician, enormous potential, the ability to turn your dreams into reality” and Agatha shoots a side eye saying “god damnit there’s another Wanda”. Then his future is “reunion”. Underneath the road we see the subway station, the “failed transit system” Mrs Heart was talking about. But why does a city of 3K need a subway? Also, the two figures on the tower card are Billy and Tommy in their comic costumes. This might be a stretch but with everything else they’ve hidden I doubt it. This is great: “when she calls you coward, duck” - Bravery for the Lion Gives Billy the spell book - A brain for the scarecrow “”Love being a witch” - a heart for the Tinman No way that’s just coincidence.
This should go in the main thread but in case they’ve been under a rock I don’t want to spoil the Wiccan reveal. Anyways, once again the best part of Marvel is how they nail the casting and they nailed Joe Locke. When they make the Young Avengers movie the chemistry between him, Hailee, and Iman will be great. I don’t really remember the Cassie Lang girl but I liked the Pikachu movie.
If Aubrey Plaza is death, then I totally get why Thanos was all bent out of shape about her in the comics.
I saw somewhere that the last episode is the 2nd highest rated Marvel TV episode ever, trailing only the Loki 2 finale.
My wife, who has been staring at her phone during much of our time watching the show, has expressed frustration at not knowing what's going on and has no memory of Lilia's non sequiturs during the series. She's also "so done with Marvel" when she asked what the big reveal was supposed to be and I said that Rio was the personification of Death cuz she feels like she has to do homework.
How does everyone know this Patti Lipone actress? I gave her a quick Google and am still not sure why everyone knows her.
I googled “greatest broadway singers” and this first link had her #2: #2: Patti LuPone This classic Broadway belter obtained her status as a musical theater icon by appearing in many popular roles. She first drew attention as the lead in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Evita.” Having gone on to play Nancy in “Oliver!”, Fantine in “Les Mis,” Mrs. Lovett in “Sweeney Todd,” and Mama Rose in “Gypsy,” her bio is totally stacked. Lupone demonstrates practiced technique and a confident style with her mid range singing voice. She projects outward and manages to completely fill whatever space she’s in. Her warm and focused tone is full of personality, which she tailors to suit whatever character she’s performing as. Truly, no one’s voice compares to LuPone’s.
Overall I give it a 7/10. As someone who doesn’t know the source material, it just wasn’t that interesting and based on the thread, it sounded like those who knew the material were able to connect with it and fill in a lot of the gaps that seemed to make the show better. I liked the Wizard of Oz parallels in episode 8. Thought that was a fun nod, and there were some fun parts, but overall the story seemed experimental and somewhat boring in terms of an overall plot.
Aubrey and her outfits alone bring 9.5/10 to the table and then the rest of the cast make up the other 0.5. It’s one I’ll have to rewatch to try to unravel it more now that we have like seven twists. For those who know deeper, is Jen, the witch who got her powers back, a known character in the comics?
I think the source material is irrelevant and this one was one of the better forays into storytelling in any of the MCU series. Matched by some absolutely dynamite actors. It's firmly in the WV/Loki pantheon for series imo
Billy figuring out the road in his room, the final episode showing the origin of the song, Agatha getting the silver hair and becoming Billy's mentor(a nod to the source material. admittedly). We were the origin of Death and Agatha's relationship away from this being perfect. I loved it.
They should have made the finale ep 3 or so. Watching 8 episodes that didn’t have much emotional weight to the plot of why they’re doing this would’ve been fixed
I agree with this. I didn’t really care about anyone along the way, because the consequences weren’t entirely clear. The trials themselves felt somewhat hollow.
Pretty firmly in the camp that it was decent to good, but not great. Does not hold a candle to Loki or WV.
Ok, after rewatch, it was really fucking good. It still got caught up in the D+ trap of the best episodes were before the finale. It was still really good, no post credit scene and all they needed to do was a post credit scene with Billy outside of Xavier’s mansion or Doom’s castle to get a 100/100 from me.
All three of the other witches are actual minor characters. Lilia is Baron Mordo’s (from Dr Strange) kid, Alice is a magic detective in Hong Kong, Jen is a swamp witch from the Everglades. Jen actually meets up with Ted and Jack and has a lot of fun Midnight Son adventures, would love to see her with Ted, Jack, Elsa, Moonknight, Black Knight, Mahershala, etc. Just throw them in a pot and send them off to fight Dracula, we don’t care about plot.
Man, it was really good, hate that episodes 6&7 were the best but don’t think I should hold that against them, just initial thought I’m going with Wanda vision Loki 2 Loki 1 Agatha
