Not sure if this needs spoilered or not Spoiler did Agatha HAVE TO kill witches as a trade to keep her son alive? Is that why Death took him after they didn't kill any witches?
Think everyone knows not to join the series thread if they're avoiding spoilers. This is a good theory that I think would help explain some things. It may have even been implied she was trading the souls of other witches to keep her son's.
The more I think about it, the more that actually makes sense. One of my few gripes for the series was that they kept emphasizing how Agatha couldn't face her son and how what happened to him was so horrible...even saying she sacrificed him for her power...but her actions didn't live up to that. I think it may be an implied detail that could have used some additional fleshing out because it definitely not only makes sense, but adds some weight in her actions.
I agree that this is a good theory and would make the story make much more sense. I just wonder why they weren't more overt about it.
I think it was a deal with Death situation. Also with her “made from scratch” comment, I think they were hinting at a force baby/immaculate conception situation. Agatha made a deal with her girlfriend to give her a baby and prolong her life as long as she gave her witch bodies. My guess is they chose witch bodies because with their longer lives they mean more to Lady Death?
We also never got the story on how Agatha ended up with the darkhold, if it wasn’t sacrificing her son.
Yeah, I think it’s implied that was all a part of her deal with Rio but I’m surprised it was never brought up.
Said she spoke no spells or incantations. Nothing about Rio not putting a Death baby in her. We saw they were into the rapey bondage vines like Evil Dead.
Well Billy as well. But Death is an original cosmic entity, she could do anything and everything basically. Remember when Gorr asked Eternity to bring his daughter back from the dead? She’s like that.
So many little details… Also, mentioned our discussion about Agatha sacrificing witches to keep her son and she looked at me like I was crazy for not having already realized that. So maybe it was more overt than I realized.
And Kitty just ends up there by accident but when the others decide they still need a green witch, Agatha chooses Rio because she’s still planning on sacrificing them to get Nicky back at the end. Even when she realizes the road is made by Billy
I thought when her son left the tavern she knew it was over. After they killed witches he got stronger and healed and then he would start to get more sick. After a while he knew what they were doing and he was done. Hence he was coughing and clearly sick (they hadn’t killed in a while). Once he left she was panic stricken.
I think the last episode tied in that she always knew the road was made by Billy. Rewatching the first few episodes she was going on the same plan of having them use their powers on her. Then Sharon spotted the road and Agatha was caught off guard but made some insinuating comments that she had a hunch Billy was Wanda’s son as this was like the hex.
Jac Schaeffer says it was their intention that Rio is the father. Since they didn’t say it though she won’t confirm it in case a future property goes in a different direction. Also said they were told to “lock down” Aubrey Plaza for the MCU and not give her a one off character. “I will say that when we were casting sometimes, we were like, ‘Does that kid look like Rio? Does that kid look like Aubrey Plaza?’” Schaeffer said. “Fans and viewers, yes, are picking up on our brainwaves for sure.” “I didn’t anticipate that the shippers would be so fervent,” Schaeffer said. “You never know how anything is going to land or if people are going to care. The amount of people that care is staggering to me. It’s my hope that in the MCU there’s more unpacking of the Agatha & Rio backstory.” “That’s a story for another day, but ultimately for me, it’s irrelevant in this story,” Schaeffer said, adding “The truth is that even if I did have an answer, I don’t cover it in this property. So, it is fodder for another story for another day, that I maybe don’t have control over.”
Also, I never picked up on it but his last line to the other witches “Mother needs me at home” was talking about Rio. Him and Agatha never had a home and were always on the run.
Haha, the “comic silhouette”, yes I’m sure that’s the only reason her costumes were designed that way. Non joking though, they are pretty incredible costumes, the Assembled show should be a good watch.
Was listening to a pod about Agatha. They said there’s a scene in WV that after Agatha is a “holy shit, theyve been planting seeds from the start” but they never said what it was “so not to spoiler in case someone hasn’t watched WV”, ummm ok. The only thing that comes to mind is maybe when she’s babysitting and Billy says “I like it here because it’s quiet”. We think it’s because Wanda/Vis were fighting but it’s because he can’t read Agatha’s mind. Does anything else come to mind?
Another thing in that Jac Schaeffer interview that is really neat. They purposely used a practical set and made the road feel small or claustrophobic because Billy isn’t as powerful as Wanda and they wanted his hex to feel smaller. Something else I don’t thinks been mentioned. When Rio and Agatha are arguing, Agatha yells at Rio to stop as she’s getting ready to say “We both know this ‘road’ isn’t real”. So that’s why Rio cut her way out of the backdrop, to dunk on her showing it’s not real and also showing off her power.
Interesting…..on that pod they said in an interview Schaeffer said they filmed and attached a post credits scene but Fiege pulled the plug on it.
So ya that was really well done. Seemed kind of slow at the start and I was confused. I don’t know these characters at all. Loved the tower episode the most. All the trials were interesting.
You’re going to casually start saying “down, down, down the road, down the witches road” tomorrow out of nowhere. Just you wait
We had a haunted house birthday party for my 10 year old daughter this October and she requested this song to be played. It was a nonstop rotation of witches road.
Seems to be the show runner's decision. She also isn't interested in doing a second season of WV. I enjoyed both immensely and I don't really think either warrants a second season. The told exceptional stories in a single season and that's plenty.
This was basically season 2 of the Maximoff family story and Vision Quest will be S3 (I assume WonderMan will be a S2.5?). I’m really worried about Schaeffer dropping out of VQ’s production though.
Show was very mid for me. Guessing that’s because I don’t know and connect with the source material like some in here.
