Basically in an upgrade every year cycle bc you get ~50% off the new model by trading in last year’s model.
whats the longest you’ve ever used a macbook? Mine is an early 2014 macbook air and still works pretty good
What’s the benefit of the usb-c to the user? I don’t want to buy new cords so I’m considering upgrading to a discounted 14
My laptop, Bluetooth speaker, and kindle all use usb-c, so that’s nice. My AirPod pros still being lightning cable sucks.
11 years then it died catastrophically and I lost some important stuff because somehow it managed to corrupt the Time Machine backup in the process. Many regrets.
a lot of my newer electronic devices and computers are standardizing on USB-C and it's annoying as hell to have a mix of cables. i am happy to retire the lightning cable.
at this juncture, you will not need a lightning cable for anything going forward whereas other electronics (computer, iPad, non apple products) will be usb-c, so you can buy 1 cord for a multitude of products instead of continually buying a cable that is only good for 1 thing (I also just MagSafe charge everything so I dont give a shit either way)
It's an open, non-proprietary standard that can basically replace video, audio, charging, and data transfer cables. A whole lot of stuff is already on USB-C and the transition is definitely not going to be slowing down any time soon. I've been at the point for a while now where I will only buy products that recharge via USB-C unless there just isn't a USB-C option, Apple previously having been the exception.
Only thing is that your 1 cord, if it's not graded at a high enough wattage, might not be enough to power up or charge your more high powered devices fast enough. Like say a Macbook, for example.
Once I get the iPhone 15, the only reason I'll need to have a Lightning cable is to charge my Apple TV remote. The AirPods Pro almost always get charged wirelessly. I got a couple of them tiny like 6 inch Lightning cables that I'll just keep and either give away or throw away all my lightning cables.
I still have my mid 2012 mb pro. Ive replaced a handful of parts over the years and new hard drive, but my wife got a new one earlier this year and I am having some envy
My 13 Pro Max plan with tmobile says I have 6 more payments, $257 left. Should I pay that off? If I do, does that mean the phone is mine, and I can sell it? Should I just upgrade via their JUMP! Plan (whatever that is, I currently have it)? Or should I just wait the 6 months, and get the new iphone then?
just bought a new MacBook Air yesterday to replace my 2010 pro. Although I’ve rarely used the pro for the last few years but it does turn on and work if I need it. The battery is fucked tho
Going from a 12 mini to a 15 pro. The battery on the mini is terrible for me; is it the same for you?
I joke but my partner was looking at buying a whole ass camera a couple weeks ago before we do a bunch of traveling at the end of the year. She converted from Android a couple years ago and hates apple’s camera. Found a brand new, open box galaxy 23(max or plus or whatever their top of the line one is) for $550 on eBay and opted for that instead. The pictures are just night and day better than Apple and it’s honestly ridiculous.
It's not great. Wireless carplay zaps it. It also seems to get hot abnormally quick when charging and using it in any capacity.
Did all the pre-stuff to get a white pro max. Going to look into some cables and blocks now. My current crop of usb c cables are shitty ones from Amazon.
I looked at getting a new battery for mine because that's the only issue I have. It probably holds a charge for about 2 hours max. Watched some youtube videos on how to replace it and while it's not difficult it still is enough of a pain in the ass to preclude me from doing it.
USB-A vs. USB-C: Which is better? USB-C is undeniably the superior connection type due to its higher data transfer rates, ability to charge large electronics and symmetrical connection port. This is why it's becoming the industry standard and will become ubiquitous in the near future. With that said, USB-A isn’t completely useless. In some cases, you may need it over USB-C. There are millions of devices that still use USB-A ports. Machines lacking USB-A ports, such as the new MacBook Pro 14-inch and Dell XPS 13 Plus, can put you at a disadvantage if you don’t have an adapter. After all, an external HDD or SSD with a USB-A connection won’t do you any good if you can’t connect it via USB-C. Also, USB-A designed for USB 3.0 is still plenty sufficient for everyday computing and even transferring large photos or videos, if you don't mind investing the time. So while USB-C is objectively better than USB-A, USB-A still has its place in the computing world and should be around for several years to come.
Upgrading from 13 pro max to 15 pro max We’ll have at least a couple lightning dependent devices floating around for a while. Going to be exploring whether I can find a cost effective y-adapter that lets me convert lightning cords to EITHER usb-c or lightning on the end. If I find one, will buy a handful of those to give me a runway to decommission the seemingly thousands of lightning cords I have floating around
What's the move for buying cables these days? Lots of shitty ones on Amazon. Monoprice still a thing?
This is why I've never gone apple even though the phones are getting very similar these days Android cameras and camera software just always ahead and it's probably my #1 factor in phones
I would hold off until people get their hands on the phones to see if there’s any funny business with Apple requiring MFI cables
Btw, the regular iPhone 15 will only have support for USB 2. The Pro and Pro Max versions will have USB 3. Probably not a huge deal for most (data transfer speeds are the main differentiator).
Tell that to my wife and her 250gb of photos/vids of our kids every 3 months - 480mbps to 10Gbps will be a huge upgrade in that regard.
hard pass on that but apparently you can use nextcloud to load to your own server, so thanks for spurring me to look into an alternative
