In your work, is it ever ok to have a tablet that runs a mobile OS? If not, then no, there's no reason for you to buy it.
3 years ago our company handed out tablets running iOS to tons of people. They have since stopped doing that. My question remains. What does the iPad Pro do for am enterprise user?
I'm not following you. You've already paid >$300 for 1 year under the Apple plan. Even if you trade in to "turn that into the remaining 12 months" you've grossly overpaid compared to a 2 year agreement with AT&T where you pay $199 and own the phone after 2 years. the only benefit is getting a new phone every year instead of every 2 years. But you are paying dearly for that honor.
Your answer is in here If in a few years they force Next type plans, then the subsidize bit will be gone. Then the conversation about what apple is offering is how they handle you trading in early. I'd have to imagine this is just now being offered because it is finally feasible, and it is feasible because how carriers are starting to force Next on people.
Not much more than what the tablets they stopped handing out... So if they stopped handing them out because iOS was not efficient for your company then the iPad Pro wouldn't do anything for your company. I'm confused on your angle as it's clearly not something you are required to buy so why all the angst?
Who did their screen replacement? Someone amazon link me to one for a space gray 6, I broke it again.
That is still the best deal, but ATT is the only place to make that deal is what we are saying. Once ATT ends 2 year plan subsidized phone prices then you either do a paymet plan or spend $700 for the phone. Also with all these lease programs what will happen to the resale market? The lease plan costs more in the long run, but is cheaper on a month to month basis since someone dosesnt have to have all that money up front, so I would expect most people to go that direction.
I wasn't aware that the major carriers were all moving away from the discounted phones with a 2 year service contract. Hopefully AT&T doesn't do away with subsidizing iPhones before my Sprint contract is up Oct 20th. Not leasing a phone, nor will I pay $700 for one. That's ridiculous.
I guess thier plan isn't that bad, as it's essentially just the unlocked price with AppleCare+ / 24 months. It's still a case of consumers getting screwed, unless the carriers reduce their plan prices.
Not much I'm in IT for K-12 education and iPads have been a huge flop for us. They are toys, they are not a good tool for work. The surface is the best tablet on the market imo (and the opinion of everyone I have assigned one to). Chromebooks are still our go to because they are cheap and the kids love them.
The thing with AT&T subsidizing, at least for my situation, is that I currently get a $25 discount (called Mobile Share Value Savings) off the $40 monthly rate they charge to have a smartphone. If I were to go with the subsidized, 2 year contract for the 6S, they would take that discount away. So essentially, yes I would not have to pay the monthly Next fees, but by going with the subsidized plan and losing that discount I am still paying an extra $25 a month (I believe this is their way of "forcing" customers to switch over to the Next plan) on top of the $200 subsidized phone.
I've been an ATT customer for over 10+ years with this same family plan. I can't stand how they build their service offering with so many foot notes and extra fees and discounts. I couldn't even get a straight answer in a store when considering if I should switch to a next plan based on cost. (I really just want the mobile hotspot capability) The plan it suggests at 15GB is about $15 cheaper. My wife's iPhone 5 is "off contract" and eligible for an upgrade. I would pay $15 per month on the new plan. My 5s if "on contact" expiring 3/16 and would cost $40 per month. So the plan probably would not be cheaper if we each had new phones. The most interesting note is "if you upgrade a smartphone to a 2-year wireless contract, you will no longer be eligible for a monthly discount...upgrade to Next, bring your own phone or pay full price". ... kentucky_dawg I read your post again and feel like we are saying the same thing but I have no idea.
If you buy the phone at a discounted price on a two year contract, the plan price is higher when compared to the plan price for a phone that you make monthly payments on. At Verizon, if you buy a discounted phone on a two year contract, the smartphone access fee is $40 (I think it's $40 at ATT too). If you buy a phone on monthly payments or at full price, the smartphone access fee is $20 (I think it's $25 at ATT). At the end of two years, you end up paying roughly the same amount when you take the plan price into account.
yeah AT&T is essentially forcing everyone to go to the NEXT plan. My question is, if I go to the NEXT plan, I am not under contract, is the phone unlocked, where if I decided to switch carriers and pay off the phone, would I be able to take that phone to Verizon? EDIT: I found my answer. AT&T won't unlock the phone until you pay for it in full. So I guess you could do it. https://forums.att.com/t5/Wireless-...le-on-Next-Program-Galaxy-Note-3/td-p/3844319
FWIW there's a lot of talk out there that ATT's retention dept is doubling/offering extra gigs of data again. Something to do with all of their plans changing and people complaining.
Yeah, their stipulations are really frustrating and can get confusing at times if you don't put in the effort to read all of the fine print. The bold part is the most interesting aspect. They are basically forcing users to switch to Next because if not, you will lose that monthly discount and will be paying the extra $25 for the remainder of your contract (or however long after that you are with AT&T). So it's kind of like choosing the lesser of two evils.
Its not angst which I am intending so i apologize if thats how it sounded. It is honestly, pure disappointment. I am on my ipad right now, and would love if iOS had true multitasking (its a hybrid in my eyes). The ability to simply save a file, or things like that. Basically all I am doing is checking email and watching a movie. All my main work will wait until I land and can use my laptop.
Oh, why the hell did I spend like $130 last time, Apple Store can do it for $109, or $79 with AppleCare? Will Apple Store care that my screen is a third-party one?
I'm sure ATT will be similar now but Verizon just announced buybacks for older iPhones. So Verizon is taking a different tack to reduce customers' monthly payments via the trade-in offers. Verizon will pay consumers $100 for an iPhone 4 or 4S, $200 for an iPhone 5 or 5C, $300 for an iPhone 5S, $350 for an iPhone 6, and $400 for an iPhone 6 Plus. The phones must be in working condition. Without a trade-in, Verizon will charge $650, or $27 per month for 24 months, to buy a new iPhone 6S. But if a customer applied a $300 trade-in credit, the price would drop to $350 or under $15 per month.
I did read somewhere on the ATT iPhone trade in event link that there is $200 trade in promotion. Again they are shitty with the details other than saying it must have a minimum buyback of $10 and meet their requirements. A quick check shows that a 4 is worth $15 so anything back to then could get $200 promo. Assuming I read it correctly. I too would like the 5s to get $300.
So, I'm eligible for an upgrade w/ Verizon and I'm planning on getting the iPhone 6s+. Is it better to do the Apple payment plan or the Verizon Edge plan cause I have no freaking clue??
I preordered the 6s 64 GB for $299 using AT&T 2 year service contract. Through an ex-employer discount code, I get 24% off the monthly voice and data plan charges and that's not going away. I'll then sell my old 5s for $161.46 on uSell. That's under $140 for the new phone, with only downsides being it's a locked phone and I have a 2 year contract with AT&T. However, with my 24% discount code on AT&T, no other carrier can even come close.
The last frame seems to have been cut short. What it should say is, "I made this, but with a strong focus on UX creating a much more palatable, user-friendly product."
What's the best reselling site? By best I mean one that will pay me, in full, within a couple days of receiving the phone.
Don't use sites like Gazelle; big ripoff. I used to sell mine on eBay, but my last buyer was a complete idiot so I'm gonna sell on Swappa.
The monthly rates are about the same as the next program as the subsidized purchase. If you buy the phone outright/Next Program they give you a cheaper bill
You are paying full price even if you do a contract. They charge you upfront (ex. $200 for 16GB) then charge $20 per month (hidden in base contract price).
Yeah, I realize that I'm eventually paying for it. I just wouldn't pay $700 upfront to buy it outright. It's not a bad deal, as we'd own phone after 2 years & have option to upgrade every 12 months (essentially leasing phone). At this point I'm just deciding on carrier... with Sprint now & haven't had any issues with their service/coverage, although my wife constantly complains about it. I'm assuming the carriers only offer plan discounts if you use their phone purchase plan & those wouldn't be offered if we buy direct from Apple...
still on the old grandfathered unlimited plan. that's the only reason it doesn't make sense for me to do anything but keep on with the subsidized contract
Apple peeps, tell me about the 6+. Gonna upgrade from the HTC One and am considering the S6 and the iPhone 6s+. Thoughts? Only concern is the 6+ being too big.
If I didn't preorder this past weekend, what's the earliest I can realistically expect to go into a store and purchase the new 6s?
Also, my girlfriend is thinking of switching over to AT&T and I have an old 4S I can give her to trade in. It looks like AT&T has a promotion going right now that says if you are switching carriers and trade in an old iPhone (think it has to be worth like $15), you get a $300 in store credit. I'm assuming this can be used towards the new 6S purchase, correct?
Just ordered the 6s after looking at both. I think the 6s is pretty damn big, but the plus is just laughable. Unless you will only carry it in a murse or fanny pack, it is for women.
I have been a PC owner for a long time now. Gonna be getting a Mac here within the next couple of months. I have used iPads and iPhones, but never made the plunge to get a Mac laptop. Haven't read this thread, but I am going to post my questions.... - I know there is now a Macbook, Macbook Air, and Macbook Pro. Everything I have read has me leaning toward the pro. Just seems like the best all around device and the retina display is a must for me. The new Macbook looks kinda smallish. I like that it appears to be so portable but the Pro should be plenty portable even if it does weigh about 1.5 pounds more. - Is there a time of year when Apple usually releases their new line of laptops? I believe I read that there hasn't been an announcement for the 2016 line yet. Basically I am trying to decide if I should go with a 2015 Macbook Pro or wait until something new comes out. - Does the price fluctuate throughout the year? For example, since the time the 2015 versions were first announced, have the prices gone down or do they pretty much stay the same until the new line is released? (ie, if I wait for an announcement for the 2016 laptops will the price of 2015s go down significantly or do they just like stop making those ones?) - Think the 13 inch version will be sufficient? I usually just use my laptop for surfing the web, music, and videos. I don't do gaming or any of that. I do plan on dabbling with Photoshop once again when I get the new one. - Probably know the answer to this, but I assume it will be worth it to fork out $1600ish for this? I spent about $800 on my Lenovo three years ago and it is slow as fuck now and I pretty much hate it. Just wanna make sure I am making a good decision here. I don't really get into the whole PC/Mac or Android/iPhone debates really. I just want something that is going to be pretty fast and stay fast for a while. It's incredible how slow my current laptop is now compared to when I first got it.
Pelican one thing I didn't mention last night is that with the 13" MBPr, I haven't touched my iPad since. It's the perfect size that is right between conventional laptop and tablet. Absolutely love it.
Ya I am trying to decide if I would go 13 inch or 15. I need to get one in front of me and fiddle around with it. Have never even used one before. Leaning toward 13 though.
The Lenovo I have now is a 15.6 inch but it's probably pointless to even compare that to Macs since their displays are vastly superior (so I am told).
I've sold on eBay before. Worked well every time but once where the buyer was overseas. Shipped the phone and once it leaves the country you lose tracking, so lo and behold they complain to eBay saying they never received it and I got charged for it and am still fighting them. eBay is fine if you only ship US or Canada.
Yeah, my point is, the 13 is small, thin, and light enough to replace an iPad. Retina makes up for loss in screen size IMO so it it also replaces your shitty Lenovo.
Ive used this thing like crazy. I work on it all day, at night, Im always using it to stream sports, or torrance ro something. It's probably in use an average of 10-14 hours a day. Still runs great. Yes theyre expensive but I feel like it's one of the better investments Ive made. We have work issued PCs, but I never rarely use it. Im fairly ignorant on anti virus stuff and malware - but it's my understand is that's what really slows PCs down and you have to be care what sites you visit. Ive been to some pretty shady sites between porn and sports streaming, and mine is still running smoothly.
Apple's prices usually don't change. Best Buy will run sales pretty often though. Stay away from the regular Macbook imo. Too much money for what is basically iPad hardware in a laptop form factor. I use a 15" MBPr but I always have it on a thunderbolt display. The few times I do use it portable I think it's plenty light enough. I like the extra screen real estate on the 15". If you aren't sure on 13 vs 15, go to Apple or Best Buy and handle both of them to see. If you need it, go for the extra memory now. the RAM is soldiered onto the motherboard so you can't upgrade it later. You can always upgrade the SSD down the road. 8GB of RAM will probably be plenty for you, I use 16GB bc I use Adobe Premiere and After Effects for rendering. Even my 15" with maxed out specs has issues rendering sometimes. I only render 4K on the Mac Pro or my gaming rig. Intel's Skylake processors are out to the public now so expect to see the MBP line refreshed with them at some point. I doubt it will be refreshed before Q1 2016.
Also, if you're at all worried about the transition from Windows to OSX, I can hook you up with VMware Fusion and a Virtual Windows Machine on your MBPr. But I guarantee after using OSX for a month, you won't touch Windows again unless you have to.
