time to get rid of my 2003 truck. wanted to look here for any opinions on where to start. looking for a car at this point, but open to opinions on small SUVs. looking at: - Audi A4 - Volvo S80 - Hyundai Sonata (seriously) after reading through consumer reports, probably narrowed it down to volvo and hyundai. everything i am reading about hyundai measures up to luxury vehicles, but half the cost (also a ten year warranty when bought new).
I used to always think Hyundais are shit cars, but they have really stepped their game up. With the price and warranty, if you're not trying to impress clients or anything, I think anyone should give them a hard look. Audi A4's are pretty sweet though.
Know 3 folks over the last 3 or 4 years that bought an Audi. All 3 of them got rid of them within 2 years because things were always fucking up. Nothing major, but little electrical problems all the time and minor parts always being replaced.
I have an A4 and I can confirm this. Fun as hell to drive but it seems like I was always paying for small shit to be fixed until I stopped caring and now my back window is fucked up, speedometer is fucked up, radio is fucked up, etc etc etc looking at purchasing a bmw but my a4 is paid off in a couple of months and it'd be very nice to not have a car payment anymore...
Just bought a 2000 S80 this week. Its fuckin sick. I took me a while to find one that had the timing belt done because my last car was destroyed from it breaking. Im very happy with it though.
I've had two cars my entire life (i'm 24) and both have been A4's. Awesome cars, really fun to drive, but i've had so many issues with them you have no idea. Problems with the trip computer, bumper fell off (not kidding), and other little extraneous stuff. Shit really adds up. I would suggest leasing it for 24 mo. and getting rid of it right after if you really want one
been looking at cars for several months, including the ones you and others listed. personally I'm 99% sure I'm going to go with a infiniti g35 coupe. (before anyone says anything , not riced out in any way)
I've currently got an '08 G6 GT. Looking to get something new, and probably either 4WD or AWD. My car is pure shit in the snow. I can't go anywhere.
I drive an 04 Hyundai and its been a great car. I just went over 165k miles and I have had practically no problems with it at all. Ive had to change a sensor for the speedometer twice and other than that its been scheduled maintenance. Would buy another one.
Hyundai has seemed to really come around over the last 5 years. Most are American made by non union employees(still a Korean company though) and they offer the best warranty in the business. My ride is paid off, but I will probably read up, test drive and give Hyundai a look whenever my next purchase may be. Hyundai seems like a smart buy these days.
I have had a lot of problems with my 2001 3 series BMW. Tons of shit has broken time and time again. I will ditch it once I start making some money (I just graduated) but I am gonna wait to see if I can move up to NYC or another place where a car isnt necessary (I interned in London and might move back there also)
would love to have a nice sedan but there are too many times when I need a truck. Plus driving around in anything smaller than a tank is likely to get you killed on the highways of DFW
which is why i am not leaning toward bmw. have a buddy who has his in the shop almost monthly. i am also looking at volvo xc60 as a small SUV. always good to have some extra room.
I don't get why people are looking at A4's over 328i's. Can somebody explain this to me, an Audi owner.
December I bought a 2011 535i with the m-sports package. after driving a prius for 3 years. want my prius back. already had to take in the bmw to replace the active sway system because it was defective. i could drive that prius through a lava flow and still have no problems. i love my car -- trust me, it's fucking badass -- but the problems are frustrating especially for what you are shelling out.
The worst part is BMW friggin nickles and dimes you on everything. It's crazy they make you pay extra for shit like leather seats. And who's gonna buy a BMW without leather seats? Little shit like that just ticks me off.
First... tell me about your truck... Second... listen to Capstone... the Infiniti M35 is a fucking awesome car. You can get a badass 2006+ for around $20k with generally low miles (<60,000) If I were buying a luxury sedan, I'd be in an Infiniti M. It's got all sorts of amenities that others just don't have if you like creature comforts... like heated AND COOLED leather seats, backup camera, in-dash hard drive for your music (with hard drive port), laser-guided cruise (set the cruise at whatever speed you want and if you come up on someone going slower than you, it'll automatically slow down and keep you at a safe distance). And not to mention the Sport looks pretty badass. (stock M35 Sport)
i bought a 07 audi a4 like 2 months ago, love it so far and havent had any problems or anything, good gas mileage too, infiniti's are nice but they gas guzzlers, other than that they are sick
The 2007 M35 is spec'd to run 18 City 25 Highway... The M45 (V8) could suck some petrol down, I'm sure... but the 35 has that 350Z engine (and I love that sound) V6
Whatever you do don't get a pre owned 3 series or M series. Those things are abused by people and BMW rapes the people who lease them or buy them used because they are treated like shit. I have 71000 miles on my 2008 3 series and I am not just having my first issue. Service Engine Soon light clicked on yesterday Girlfriends parents have Volvos and they are nice as fuck. Infinitis are also great cars. I know it's Jap as fuck but the Toyota Camrys are nice now too. I do agree that you almost have to look at Hyundais now though
Not to mention the A4, 3-Series, C-Class, etc. are super small... the Infiniti M is a full-size sedan so plenty of legroom for rear seat passengers.
own a tahoe, next car will be an G or an M series Infiniti. (by next car that means ill be buying something in neighborhood of 2006-09, depending on how long my 04 tahoe lasts.)
i'll never buy new, unless like i mentioned before i buy something cheap like a hyundai and get a badass 10 year warranty. if i buy more luxury (volvo, audi, etc.), i'll buy one or two years used with 15k miles or less. my truck is a 2003 f150 supercrew. i wasn't looking to buy a new car until one of my wife's friend's son totaled his car ,and insurance paid out 10k and they offered to buy my truck bc he needs one. it is in good condition, with 73,000 miles. i'll put down another 10k and either pay for a hyundai with cash, or have a small note on another vehicle.
DONT get an A4 or C-class. They are cheap cars. The equivalent of a nice Infiniti/Honda. Audis have terrible electrical problems, %90 of them lose their LED screens at 80k A coupe 3 series is acceptable. 4 doors are hideous. Absolutely NO asian cars, cheeeap cheeeap cheeap.
my mom currently has an '04 XC90 (the bigger one). bought it new and has had practically no problems with it. she is looking to get a new vehicle within the next year and has already made up her mind on the xc60. looks great, not too big, got very good reviews, plus it can scoot a little bit (280 hp IIRC). my dad just bought a '10 ford edge sport too, loves it so far. also a smaller suv
Just a mechanic and car enthusiasts point of view. Name me a price range and Ill find you a better car for the price. Give me a number.
Im only trying to help, If you own a jap car and love it. Congrats Im just trying to get people into nicer cars. For what he'd pay for the Hyundai, why not get a 750li with now sophisticated I drive system?
That's cool I was just seeing as I'm going to be looking into trucks here soon... So why not go with something in the middle? Pretty luxurious without the hefty price tag (and maintenance/upkeep bill)... It's a jazzed up Nissan. Really good cars. Just a thought. /usedcarsalesman
The 2002 version had TONS of bugs. The newer versions are very nice. Not MMI nice but nice. Its not complicated for anyone on this site, we are all pretty nerdy.
in the upscale midsize car market this summer. so far have looked at the bmw 335i coupe or the merc c-350. the most I could do would be about 35k. have to pay for all the maintenance myself so that is a factor.
Parents have a B6 generation S4. Only problem they've ever had is an A/C issue. Hope to be purchasing a B6-B7 soon myself. The current TT generation is nice, as well, with the new masculine body style. I'm sure the Infiniti M's are nice, but give me a fucking real manual transmission. None of this "manual shift mode" business.
