If Larkin, Raymond & Seider are in fact your cornerstone pieces you now have that core together for the next four years for about 26 mil. Now it’s time to leverage your ELCs and trade for a star in the next year or two.
Meh got 10 mil coming off in offseason on guys who won't miss and Holl contract an easy buyout candidate. Got most their good young players locked up and have more ready to replace some of these old guys soon, have cap flexibility in offseason to make moves if they wanted. I really don't think our cap situation is all too bad.
They have to find a way to get Copp off the books next off season. Replace with Danielson/Kasper. Let Husso walk as well and you have $10 million plus to play with on another “star”
Honestly the best case scenario is Shea Theodore hits FA. Been hurt lately but he would be great to pair with Seider.
Lots of talk today from Husso about being healthy. Don’t think he’s a 1A type but Talbot and Husso is our best tandem if both guys are healthy. Would be interested to see what kind of deal we could make for Lyon in that scenario. My hunch is he isn’t landing is anything special but could get us something.
Lalonde confirmed his intention to keep Rasmussen - Copp - Fischer together as the third line. Based on that info, I think it’s safe to say this is the likeliest opening night lineup if everyone is healthy: DeBrincat - Larkin - Raymond Tarasenko - Compher - Kane Rasmussen - Copp - Fischer Motte - Veleno - Berggren ??? (Guessing Watson) Chiarot - Raymond Edvinsson - Petry Matta - Gustafsson Holl Johansson Talbot Husso If that’s the case it’s disappointing we won’t have a young forward on the roster but whatever. Very good first line A second line that will be an absolute rollercoaster A shutdown third line with no offense (would be a great but overpaid fourth one) A fourth line that exists A first pair that will not be able to handle insane matchups like last year A second pair that probably won’t be bad even though Petry is trending towards washed A third pair that I actually don’t hate An average goalie tandem Don’t see this as a playoff team but it shouldn’t be a bottom ten team either.
If he acclimates well to the North American game these next few weeks he should stay in GR. I think his style of play works better over here and the SHL can be very unforgiving to young players when it comes to ice time. Controlling that variable is a big deal.
#RedWings Lalonde on Kane: "He just told me this has been the hardest camp he’s ever been in, and he said he feels great. A little earlier to the rink, a little later leaving the rink ... I’m taken aback by where his conditioning is at. Good on him and a good sign.”
Wings 3rd/4th line are kind of going to be swapped with the 3rd line being the defensive shut down line. That "4th line" with Berggren and maybe Kasper I think would be expected to get some offense
I think he’s a 12-13 minute a night guy in Detroit if he makes the team. He’s gonna be a PK fixture for sure.
Exactly what I’d want to avoid. Would rather we focus on developing his offensive game than stifling his development in a role than can be filled by quite literally anybody.
I think if Kasper is playing 3rd line minutes and the PK it’s better than first line AHL minutes at this stage. I think his versatility would actually give him a greater chance of playing up the lineup in the NHL after a month or two.
If the wings really wanted to get crazy, have Kasper center a line with Raymond and Tarasenko and let Compher center a line with Berggren and Veleno/Motte/Mazur
I do think that could happen later in the year. Whoever centers Tarasenko and Kane is gonna have the defensive weight of the world on their shoulders though.
