I think that’s a safe assumption with the current state of our D. I think there is potential for a season similar to last year but we lost a lot of goals and our shooting % is likely going to regress. Hopefully we get a few kids (Kasper, Mazur, Danielson) to get in 40+ games to springboard us to next season.
They will score a little leas and hopefully be a little better on defense. Hopefully fewer shorthanded goals against, fewer bad penalties. A full season of Kane should help make up some of the difference, too.
Maybe. I think it’s a pretty big unknown whether a full season of Kane plus whatever contributions they get from Tarasenko, Berggren, and the young bucks will result in less goals
It’s a mix of that and the fact the team as a whole had the third highest shooting % in the league. That probably isn’t happening again.
Yes but I also think that him not playing with the main squad while Kasper gets those chances sets the pecking order as far as who likely gets moved to clear room.
Husso stopped 43/44 against a mostly NHL Pens roster last night. Danielson had the GWG on an assist from MBN. The goalie battle is fascinating because at this point I think Talbot has been the least impressive of the three (he’s completely safe regardless)
The Atlantic has been a complete shitshow this week with regulars getting run by shit players. It’s making Watson that much more valuable as a 13th forward, sadly.
He only got 2 games in Grand Rapids at end of last season, team has shown they are going to have basically everyone do a stint in GR before Detroit. Barring him being heads and shoulders better than others, don't think he realistically had much of a shot
I think nate has a stint in Detroit this year at some point if there are some injuries. Mazur/Kasper seem to be the first two in the pecking order if they don't make it, but he's probably next Edit Detox posted basically same thing right before I did
If I'm making a Mt. Rushmore of guys that could be called up, I'd start with Kasper, then add Mazur. Danielson is probably 3rd, and then someone who's name I don't know.
I think if Kasper makes the team the guy who might end up drawing the short end of the stick is Berggren. I say that because of Kasper makes the team it means it’ll be in a top nine role which will push one of Fischer or Rasmussen down the lineup. In that scenario I don’t see Berggren playing over either guy. Considering how Lalonde didn’t utilize Berggren much last year and how long it took for us to sign him to a tiny deal, I think the writing could be on the wall for him.
I can’t get worked up much about the preseason but my god Chiarot and Petry have gotten clowned by the Leafs B team tonight. It’s a reminder that those are two of top four D right now and that’s not acceptable.
Scott Wheeler There are some in Sweden who believe ASP is going to be a star in the NHL, and if he becomes one that could potentially change the calculus for the Red Wings as a team. Seven under-20 defensemen have broken the 20-point mark in SHL history. The list includes names like Victor Hedman, Rasmus Dahlin and Moritz Seider. It seems like a foregone conclusion that ASP makes that group eight this year. The all-time U20 scoring record for a D in the league is 11 goals and 31 points in 45 games, set by the Stars’ Nils Lundkvist. I wouldn’t be surprised if he breaks that too.
Watson actually looked decent before trying to fight the first thing that moved. If we drop a goalie and another forward I’d keep him at this point as the 13th forward (but you gotta keep Kasper)
With Campbell going into player assistance I think it opens the door for Husso to be waived to start the year if we can’t move a goalie. I still think Husso makes the team but no one is claiming him and Cossa needs a vet to support him. Wouldn’t be a long term move but it’s a way to keep 13 forwards until another move can be made. My current prediction for the roster is: DeBrincat - Larkin - Raymond Tarasenko - Compher - Kane Copp - Kasper Rasmussen Motte - Veleno - Fischer Watson Chiarot - Seider Edvinsson - Petry Maata - Gustafsson Johansson - Holl Talbot Lyon
