Transformers One was OK. It was tough getting used to someone other than Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime. Steve Buscemi as Starscream was perfect though.
His Three Daughters on Netflix was outstanding. Olsen was amazing. Crushed me emotionally tonight wtf
Fascinating movie. Didn’t quite land fully for me — somehow both a little heavy-handed and vague at the same time, but what a swing. Fabulous soundtrack, great cinematography and what did land hit tremendously hard. So glad that movie and original ones like it continue to get made.
I know I'm way behind but just watched Skinny Legs. I thought it was good until they couldn't land the plane. That ending was crap.
It’s so fucking good. Love that it’s like the first comic book movie where the hero never takes off the mask (helmet)
Can't find the Maps thread, so I'll post it here... Put me in with Toby even if my region disagrees with me... Also, it's bigger than I'd like so I'm spoilering it. Spoiler
Do we have an inkling of a release date for the brutalist? Early November seems overstuffed right now but it doesn’t feel like a holiday release.
Purely a guess, but I would think it’ll be mid November. Most studios are avoiding the election week, but I don’t think best picture hopeful movies have fared well lately when they’ve dropped closer to Christmas. I’m sure they’re scrambling a bit because they just acquired it, but I’d bet they’re hopeful they can get it wide a week before thanksgiving
That mid November landing spot would also be between a24 releases Heretic and Y2K, so it wouldn’t cannibalize any other prestige properties (no disrespect to Hugh Grant or Kyle Mooney)
Max failing would be an issue. The others don’t move me. And them combining into one does not do much besides creating a fun movie library, I guess.
physical media, folks* *I say this as a torrancer of 20 years, but 4k disc files have gotten too big so i've returned to the physical game
On principle, yes, but in practical terms I think it's going to lead to a lot of headaches. There are some movies you just cannot stream anywhere as is. Gonna be a lot worse if a bunch of catalogs are tied up in court or some studio goes bankrupt
I got all the way back in on this because it was actually impossible to stream To Live And Die In LA (ironically about counterfeitting)
the most handsome posters amongst us never left the physical media game *though there has been some downsizing and relocation over time
it's kind of wild to me that companies have popped up specifically to do 4k releases of movies bc studios wont just do it themselves idk why they dont just go to a pre-order model if they are scared about having extra inventory
unfortunately when I went to college my dad moved multiple times and they got "lost" so instead of spending money I just moved to downloading and now my wallet understands why I left the physical game bc some of these shits aint cheap
ive been boutique only for years now (mostly as a self-discipline measure), so it hasnt changed my buying habits at all while itd be nice if it was like the old days and they actually took some pride in current physical releases, i dont mind them outsourcing to labels that give a shit and put out a quality product - better than getting flooded with useless bullshit like that challengers blu-ray paramount and warner have done some cool stuff with their libraries, at least
this is why 95% of my current collection are criterions (my old studio dvds are all up at the cabin) - the 50% off flash sales through them in february and october and the 50% off months at barnes & noble in july and november give me an excuse to buy
